It pains me when tourists come to the UK and get fish and chips from a pub thinking they are getting the real thing. You have it to get it from a proper “chippy” (ie a fish and chip shop). Pubs and restaurants don’t have the special fryer that’s needed to make real fish and chips. And proper chippies are everywhere in London (as common as pizza places in New York).

@@katieh.2503 Hi Katie. It’s difficult to pick as there are lots of good ones. Also, London is a huge city so I may not know the area you’re staying in. Having said that nine out of ten chippies in London are fine, as the competition keeps the quality up, so if you go into the first one you see (and it’s called a ‘fish and chip shop’) it will probably be fine. Always ask for salt and vinegar as is traditional. I would add that, although London chippies are fine, it’s generally accepted that the best fish and chip shops are by the coast (eg Cornwall) or up north (eg Leeds).
