Recently we (my 18 y/o) treated one to gently used wood furniture took off the Surefire light that it came with and went over it all. Other than a +2, it looks new. My boy (and I) are really proud of it. The boy has a hard-on for original, while I love the totally tacti-cool look. Cody at VC has it in his shop now getting the machine/smithing work done. This is the first I've heard about a Vang Comp barrel optimized for Federal FliteControl - "..they have one better for FliteControl..." (around 3:36). I'm only familiar with the back boring and porting Vang Comp has been doing for decades. I'll ask Hans or Cody as I'm certain I'll run into both of them in the next few weeks. I would call Hans right now if I wasn't certain I'll see him in person in the next few weeks. I have an LE trade-in Wingmaster with the full Vang Comp treatment - back bore, ports, sighting system, Cerakote. My experience with a Vang Comp barrel and Federal FliteControl, both 8 (LE13300) and 9 (LE13200) pellet loads, is that the FliteControl pattern is larger beyond 10 yards versus the pattern of FliteControl alone in a regular cylinder choke barrel. The FliteControl wad is slightly negatively impacted by the opened and longer forcing cone. The FliteControl wad seems to pattern better with fixed cylinder choked barrels than it does with fixed improved choked barrels. Chokes tighter than cylinder seem to deform the wad cup and FliteControl's technology to get a tight pattern is the wad cup. I have 4 870's to use for side-by-side comparison. It's been my experience that a Vang Comp barrel with regular Remington Managed Recoil 00 buck (RL12BK00) performs pretty close to a cylinder barrel using FliteControl. As always, every shotgun is different and you should pattern your guns with your chosen ammo and I've done that extensively so this is my experience and my experience alone.
