I've had a Bus since 1988, put 350,000 miles on it, and done all of my own work. Now I have to do the body since it is a rust bucket from many years of northern winters. Ive learned to weld and do body work from many yt Videos, but you are on another level, And have shown me quite a bit I did not know about my Bus! Rock on! Excellent work.

More power to you man. I have a bay bus that needs basicly all the lower metal replaced. I replaced the battery tray and knew sheet metal work is not my thing. I can only imagine the amount of time and frustration you have put into this bus. Good luck!

You may want to try the test fitting the windshield before you go to far down the road with the nose. I know that without installing it with the rubber seal it will be difficult to see if it truly fits properly. But it still might be helpful in identifying any issues that you can correct now before final welding and painting. Thanks for the video!!

That is exactly my plan! I have ordered a windshield seal and I'm just waiting for it to arrive. Much better to fix it when its been primed rather than my final paint job!

Love your videos! Always nice to see you have the opportunity to work from a garage. That's what i'm still missing. I live in a small studio in a big city and own two rust buckets. I do believe I can fix everything, but as it is now, they are stored at farmer for a lot of money since parking longer than 3 days here is illegal. first time seeing your chanel.. sup now.. done lots of vw welding and i love panel bond.!!! changed the front of my 73 bay 2 split look and the rear 2 barndoor look.. a looooot of work.and home made panels. body drop / the rear frame and engine comp 100 mm upp and porsche 944 rear sving and porsche 928 front suspension.. fun...a subaru engine and gearbox is waiting..

Every one of your videos inspires me to get out and work on mine. Believe it or not, before I saw your roof swap video, we scored a pop top for our tin top camper. Just got advice today that having it on a frame straightener to hold the thing together is the way to do it. But it seems like your welded crossmember technique worked fine. Just purchased a used welder and ready to start practicing so I can get the ridiculous amount of rust sections replaced. Not fully restoring so it’s going to be a mix of new metal and fiberglass work. Thanks for the inspiration. Any tips on the roof swap will be welcome. My brother, who has been working on vdubs longer than I’ve been alive, will be heading the project.

my biggest piece of advice is to take as many measurements as possible. A frame straightener definitely seems like a good idea! Good luck, I hope it works out great for you

Always like seeing updates! Check your headlight mounting tabs. I installed a black metal nose on my 76 recently and the tabs were WAY off.

@@Vangabonders I attempted reattaching the tabs in the correct location but wasn't happy with it and honestly I was unsure if I had it right without an example. I ended up removing the buckets from the nose and replacing them with original buckets from a donor. The buckets in the new nose weren't really the right shape and that had always bothered me a bit so I just went for a repair I knew would satisfy me completely.

@vangabonders For all the panel bond heaters, most aluminum cars are glued together with panel bond and rivets. The only thing different I would’ve done is use blind rivets. I actually have a nose to put on my bus with panel bond sitting in my garage, it will be a weekend project here in the near future.

Cracking job on replacing the front panel 👏🏼. May I ask, do you happen to have the measurement you took for the window opening? My van came with the front panel already removed so I’m not sure how tall the opening should be to make sure the windshield fits. Many thanks.

Nice video mate. Would have like to see more detail on some more difficult areas to fit. The fast forwarding doesn’t show any detail. I think bonding the window frame is smart and has points you have welding so should be fine. Did you weld at the bottom at all? I also think spot welding with a mig is no very strong, not like the machines they did at factory. Will definitely take some tips from you.
