I 100% love what commercial does. Great alloy bikes, choose your spec, well priced. I'm pretty sure that modern geo ain't changing much and you can't only get so long on an enduro until its only fireroad pedal worthy. As Fox/Ohlins/Rockshox have introduced more features, and boutique tunes, 4bar and single pivot are no longer at a disadvantage... So you really don't need space age VPP, DW etc.. The only other thing I can see changing on geo is chainstay lengths for more straight-line stability, but that comes with compromise.
@tyrellcobb46657 ай бұрын
Looks like auto-correct doesn't like "commercial" bikes 😄
@AORNova7 ай бұрын
Thing is you can't really talk down other linkages like VPP and DW... until you try the latest offerings and compare them with what these horst-link bikes climb and pedal like. The difference gap is for sure smaller than 5 years ago, but it's noticeably different and in a good way. (edit: linkage not stack height - yes the 2024 Commencal Meta now have pro-modern geo with high stack, but digress from that - ) I've ridden single pivots (orange), driven single pivot (siskiu t8), horst (transition patrol, spire, spez enduro), high pivot (deviate), VPP (5010) and DWLink (Firebird, Shadowcat) and my current bike's a Pivot Shadowcat. All those bikes have their pros and cons though. Not a chance I'm going back to Horst link until the climbing x descending bottomless feel comes up to par with the VPP/DW bikes. Only other linkage I'd try is the delta link on Evils but I'm not too much a of a fan for super-plush numb plowing ride feel... That being said, I wonder how Yuka as a smaller rider will fair with a Pivot or Ibis, something like the new Shadowcat or the 2021 Switchblade (not the v6 SB released this week), or the Ripmo ... light, efficient, very supportive and not too long reach wise. Because at some point the bike-weight to rider-weight ratio is gonna inhibit the rider at some point when it comes to maneuverability and body position - Yuka looks more outstretched in both pov and 3rd person view, than when she was on her SC...

Commencal is ALWAYS an UPGRADE 🚀🚀🚀
@tatumthetater-tot95567 ай бұрын
Commencal is amazing. My favorite brand.
@NikolaiVozza7 ай бұрын
Its not really an upgrade, Commencals are just very good value for the money. They have their downsides. For one, it has a yoke driven shock, which doesn't play well with coil shocks, especially Fox ones with thinner shafts. And as far as weight goes, you can get a Starling Megamurmur which is steel (way better impact resistance, better ride quality for the average person), single pivot (super easy to maintain, literally 2 frame bearings), which weighs in about the same or even lower depending on components.
@tatumthetater-tot95567 ай бұрын
@@NikolaiVozza Yeah, I don't think the coil is going to work super well on that bike. There is a reason Commencal only stocks coils on the Clash, FRS, and DH v5. The thing with the single pivots is that there really aren't the same kinematics that the more complex designs do. I also think weight isn't really an issue. Also, I would argue Commencal has a better ride quality in general. Sure, the Starlings are steel and they have great damping qualities, Commencal's suspension designs are great. But over a Santa Cruz, they aren't really an upgrade. I would say they are pretty similar. I do think the alloy Commencal is great for Yuka though. You can really beat on an alloy frame.
@TheMeta67 ай бұрын
I don't know what you guys are talking about in regards to the coil shock. This bike is speced with a few different coil. I've been riding the 2019 non sx version with a fox dhx2 with no issues.
@SUPERCOOLZZ7 ай бұрын
I have the first of the new gen Meta AM (2021 I think). It's an abysmal climber due to the wheelbase and suspension platform. I know the suspension is linear, but I'm going to go against conventional opinion and say it plays fine with a coil. The stock DPX2 was junk and have replaced it with a Jade (not X) and it's works nicely without bottoming out. Gives me 166mm travel out back with a 180mm Mezzer Pro LE up front. Haven't ridden it much since getting an EMTB, but keeping it around for shuttle days. Find the geo works best with a faster rolling rear tyre.

Take your time getting used to it, don't be a passenger, attack the trail, go to bike control lessons, being a lighter and smaller human makes it so you have to be more aggresive in order to move the bike. In and Out burger reminds me of the main slope at camp fortune, QC that was part of the XC course back in 1990-91 on the tuesday night races. We used to go down without suspension and with cantilever brakes and skinny 26er tires. And somewhere on a VHS tape someplace is footage of the race it downpoured and myself and many others had out bikes slide out from underneath us on the exposed canadian shield as stuff got muddy and waterfally.

I think if you saw it, you might reconsider. It's very steep. No XC course would ever go down anywhere so long and steep, even in the 90's
@DeeEight7 ай бұрын
@@robrider838 lol.. XC courses in Quebec in the 90s were WAY ahead of the curve for steepness and technical difficulty. The camp fortune course used the main alpine ski slope for part of the XC course. The 92 Bromont World XC championship course was pretty similar to what we were racing on, and it humbled quite a few "top" elite international riders. Even in the early 2000s the course at Camp Fortune that was being used by the children/cadet classes was way more technical than the typical world cup XC course.

I have a Nomad and my son has a Meta. Anything uphill I have the advantage, but especially on steeper and gnarlier tech, I can't keep up with Commencal's wider wheelbase (plus I'm on 27.5"). You hear a lot of reviewers say "it likes to go fast" and that's definitely true ... My only critique is a lot of the components that came stock were cheap and had to quickly be replaced (handlebars, stem, headset, hubs, dropper and saddle).
