I am so sorry for the loss of your brother. Thanks for sharing this beautiful day! It makes me want to return to Scotland so much! We didn't stay at Bridge of Orchy, but we did stop in for a beer and slice of cake. The people there were lovely. Isn't it amazing what delicious and elegant food they serve in these tiny hamlets?

Re-living my whole trek through your videos. So you thought that last day was awesome - so did I - till I did the next day to Glen Coe. Gonna see if you feel the same in the next one. That hotel was amazing. Apart from the Oak Tree Inn, this was the best food! SO sorry for your loss, B, slipped in at the end. OMG, how did you cope with that doing the trek?

Awe...what a nice tribute! I'm a pastry chef, and I bet that beer was intentionally paired with those desserts to bring out the flavors. I hope you drank the beer after a bite of each dessert...it creates a new flavor profile on the pallette. ✌️

Have you guys checked out Turkey yet? Best place I've been to I highly recommend it. To be honest we only got a couple of weeks sun this year which is normal here so I prefer most euro countries. Scotland is great for the people and hiking l 7:17 but the lack or sun gets old.

My condolences on the passing of your brother, Brian. Our foodie neighbour had stayed at Bridge of Orchy last year and suggested it be a “must stop” place when we hiked this June. It was, like for you, a shorter day, so we booked early check in, sat outside for espressos, had our showers, then sat in the bar for some adult beverages in the afternoon, walked the area around the hotel, then sat in the fancy dining room for dinner. The food was all and more, of what our neighbour had told us, the highlight of our WHW food experiences. On another point, after finishing our walk, we went to the Inverness area and I visited my ancestor’s farm, still in the family. There is something quite extraordinary about Scotland and its ancestry, made more meaningful by meeting one’s real ancestors. BTW- we had a whole week of hot, dry, sunny weather on the WHW, unusual for Scotland.
@vanhallaadventures Жыл бұрын
Thank you Rod ❤️ Wow - what a beautiful week! That’s so special to be able to visit your ancestors farm. I can only imagine the joy you must have felt! Scotland has a way of preserving history, like you mentioned. We’ve always noticed this when we’ve visited and it’s one of the reasons we love it there so much. The people are deeply connected to their land and ancestry. It’s such a treat. We love hearing your stories. Thank you for sharing 🙂

My GG grandfather and grandmother were born in Kilmore, Argyll and Bute in 1796. I believe this is in the west highlands. I must go there.
@markgourley3745 Жыл бұрын
If it's the Kilmore I'm thinking of it's just a few miles south of Oban on the west coast. If you ever visit I recommend taking the ferry to Mull and discover that island especially Duart castle and Tobermory...and also visit Iona which is a 5 minute ferry from Mull's south west corner where you will find the abbey founded by Saint Columba

You had a post about where to go in Van. Can’t find it now. Re Sultanate of Oman. Beautiful place, great culture and history. Not sure it’s Van life place. You would have to look into that. Have been many times. Just a heads up, are you two married? Last time there I took my marriage certificate to prove marriage as my wife has always used her maiden name. And yes they asked for proof. Maybe things have changed. One time they never let single women in.

I love watching your videos but why not take the next step by ditching all the luggage , cary what you need , wild camp and not plan one day from the next taking a decision each night where to wild camp and cook food outside . By letting go you learn more about yourselves and life . Wild camping is legal in Scotland .

On this walk I wish we had backpacked though we have cameras to charge and that adds a little extra logistical ‘issue’. We are looking into how to get around this for longer treks as solar panels are unreliable and battery banks aren’t nearly large enough. I think we will start with a 3-day trek somewhere soon and test out different options. Thank you 🙂
