ioverlander*dirtcamp*outlay*recreation. Gov* are all apps that have come in handy for me as I do road trips throughout the year, some planned some spir of the moment, but none ever include motels as I love the idea of nature and camping. This type of stuff has been my lifestyle for 40+ of my 57yrs. All throughout my kids growing up and now with grandchildren I have 4of the 15 who join me on my many road trips. I go by car, camping equipment always in my trunk. I live in a 31ft RV, but do not travel or camp with her. My plans are in fact to downsize to either a short bus/step van or build my own mini TT to pull behind my 66 chevelle and do every state in the US then Canada. Love your little home by the way

Super useful info for starting out with van living. Rest stops are great for unplanned overnight stops. We've found BLM land to be an absolute game-changer though, we couldn't believe it existed back when we first learned about it. Part of the motivation to throw some all terrain tires on our van (and why we're considering some suspension upgrades) is being able to more easily access some of those more remote areas.
@vanhallaadventures4 жыл бұрын
Agreed! We just upgraded our tires because we wanted to go more off road too. Suspension upgrade sounds like a good plan. Do you have air lifters?
@RunawayGoose4 жыл бұрын
We don't, everything is stock except the tires at the moment. Honestly a little unsure exactly where to go next as far as upgrades go. Air lifters seem awesome though.
@vanhallaadventures4 жыл бұрын
@@RunawayGoose air lifters were a game changer. Totally tightened up our back end. Feels much safer to drive now especially on bumpy roads.

@@vanhallaadventures Really appreciate the tip! Definitely going to look into it more. Love the interior size of our transit, but it can feel like a boat sometimes with how much weight we're dragging around, and the back end is so easy to scrape when we hit any dips.

When we were in Tigerlilly finding a place to camp was a constant struggle. At times, it really stressed me out and tested our relationship. Its really is a skill that you develop over time, and the consequences of picking a bad spot can really tarnish your experience, but finding a top notch spot is the whole reason your out there, BLISS! Almost all Casinos allow overnight parking. and never park in a highway turn out, if a vehicle were to strike you at highway speed, they could kill you. And dont attempt covert camping in the national parks, park rangers are cops and behave as such, they carry a gun and will harass you. Also, we had great luck identifying free, established, forest service, dispersed camping areas by asking the staff at visitor centers, they know all the local spots.

Thank you so very practical! As a kid we traveled from Wichita AF Base to Jersey shore (no Motel -slept in big Station Wagon) I remember the Truck stops and trucks sounds....they put me to sleep! Please keep up these videos! One questions how do you deal with Air conditioning? I have a Vintage 50's Tin Can 12 ft Trailer but Hubby will not tow and so may sell for a Van. I grew up in a Spartan Airstream 1954 Houston Texas, Louisiana, Kansas-then 3 years in Basque Hondarribia-Spain, we camped part summer throughout Europe and back to Kansas-Our Family roots are in Eastern PA and South NJ Shore -Now 66 hubby 71..... feel like I want to explore! We have Senior free Pass -any good? I Hope! Keep it up! How long are you in Van? Love your name.... Vanhalla!
@vanhallaadventures4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! We only have air conditioning when driving. Our max air fan is all we have and open windows. Air conditioning draws WAY TOO MUCH power. Not an expense I want to deal with.

Um, yeah, if you’re looking for some feedback, this is beautifully concise, comprehensive and the vibe is pleasant. I overnight maybe... 40 weekends on the year. I’m good now (I say that, but... I had never even considered an app like iOverlander), but I really wish I had had something like this in the beginning.

Wow - that’s a lot of weekend trips! I think you’ll like iOverlander. We’ve found some pretty epic spots we’d never even know about without it.

New subscriber here!! ❤️ your channel already - real can life!!! You mentioned in another video that you both work full time online. Can you share a video on how your work day looks like (or just comment if easier ;)) We’re looking to get into a van life and we have jobs that require calls all day and access to basic internet (email, browsing) with daily online meetings. Can you share tips on how the work day (and your travel day) would realistically looks, considering your experience with looking for cell service, internet, etc.? I’m dreading having to spend Mon-Fri in Walmart parking lots 😖 KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK AND DON’T GLAMOURIZE VAN LIFE (for all of our sakes lol)

I wish that people would stop saying Wal-Mart. I'm finding more & more that they are saying no NO. Sam Walton would be disappointed. Also I got permission at Cracker barrel yet I woke up & someone had me nearly trapped in. Please tell people to check with truck stops because some do charge. I got my only knock at Planet Fitness. I like paid campgrounds most.
@vanhallaadventures3 жыл бұрын
Yeah Cracker Barrel also supports VanLife and RV’rs. We stayed at a Cracker Barrel last night in Homestead, FL and there were about 15 Vans and 5 RV’s. The most I have ever seen in one spot. We have never had any problems at Walmart but that’s because we rely on the iOverlander App. We also use the All Stays app which is very detailed about places like Walmart.
@travelcomission45443 жыл бұрын
@@vanhallaadventures The Cracker Barrel I was at the night that I was trapped in had other RV's and vandwellers as well and plenty of empty spaces. I was already settled in & laying down, not doing anything wrong. I heard a loud bunch outside & had a false sense of security because I knew there were other campers there. I was horrified when I looked out the next morning to see that I was damn near trapped. I have even had other Cracker Barrels say that they allow it but they advise against it because there's no security. I even woke up in an empty lot at Cracker Barrel with one man stating at my car in the wee hours of the morning but when I went to bed other RV'S were there.

Another great video...The overlapped music was a bit annoying and you have too many ads for the amount of subs you have and YES I know I have a choice whether to watch or subscribe to your channel so its just an observation..Oh and has the electrical issue fully sorted out now??
@vanhallaadventures3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark :) Thanks for asking about the electric. We did get it sorted out for the most part. The induction burners for a lot of people just pull way too much power though we think we could possibly upgrade the inverter. We just switched out the burner instead and are happy with that. Since doing that we haven’t had any issues. We aren’t sure why there’s so many ads as we aren’t in control of how many ads there are. Thanks for watching 🤓🙌🏻
