{DAY 4 Great Glen Way} I've found that the trail always meets us exactly where we are at and today Brian finally gets to the breaking point, the moment where he gets to decide if giving up is worth it or if continuing on is what is best.
The words we carried from today were resiliency, perseverance, and even integrity. Treks like this aren't always easy and sometimes you just want to quit because the scenery isn't beautiful, or the walk along a road seems never ending or because you are just tired for the day. But moving through this is often the pathway to finding strength within yourself and I am proud of Brian for his choice. What do you think?

I find that trails often teach us something about ourselves and today, even though he REALLY didn't like it, Brian felt reached that point. The point that I think everyone comes to at least once when on a long-distance trek - the point of Giving Up. Have you been on a long-distance trek before? If so, how do you motivate yourself when all you want to do is order a taxi or leave the trail altogether?

The thing that keeps me motivated on long hikes, when I'm injured and having a horrible time, is knowing how I'll feel at the end of the day knowing I pushed through it and conquered the challenge.

I just did the Great Glen myself and was feeling the same way on the same stretch. I had a chunky blister on my right foot and extensor tendinitis on the left! I had to keep telling myself I would feel awful if I gave up, as I had quit on the same trail, the previous year due to multiple even worse blisters. I did manage to limp to the end and was so happy that I persevered, I do think I would have felt absolutely awful mentally if I had failed 2 years running. It inspired me to get ready to do many more long distance trails next year and I have started preparing already! I Bought a new ultralight sleeping bag and have the backpack and tent picked out, so I should have a much lighter pack and a thankful back next year 😊 really enjoying watching you guys and you adventures, keep it up!

A wee tip from someone who lives in rural Scotland. When walking beside / on a road which has no pavement, you should always walk towards the oncoming traffic, so that you can see it coming from further off than you can hear it. Drumnadrochit: known to touring musicians as ‘Dropmadrumkit’

Your wee vids are beautifully edited, and thoroughly professional throughout. Honestly, try and worry about the numbers a tad less and hopefully concentrate on what a wonderful job you both have done. You kinda' made me proud to be Scottish; well done, thank you and haste ye' back x

I am working my way, with you, along the Great Glen Way. My first thought at this stage is that you have been blessed by the beautful weather. So LUCKY! All looking good so far (half way through this video) apart from tender feet. A REALLY GOOD VIDEO! (Sorry for shouting!).

A wonderful video as always. I listen to you Guys, and hear so much, to apply to my current situation. Thank you for that. I have AS, which screams “ you can’t “. I hate having limitations, but I’m not ready to sit down. My brother and I are training now to do section hikes on the Appalachian Trail, next year. I hate climbing.. lol.. always have. I would have so much dread that I’d ruin my hike. What you said about perseverance is so true. There are so many lessons to learn in life and some of them might as well begin on trail. Your both right, we should never experience anything, without reflection and application. Otherwise, what was the experience’s worth? Thank you for allowing us to follow along! Your journey is encouraging, to me. ✌️❤️

You know the west side of the Great Glen is actually a little bit of North America that detached and bashed into Europe. The Great Glen is the fault line between the two separate sections where they fused. So even though it's thousands of miles away you might say that the Great Glen way is the final part of the Appalachian Trail 😆

You have inspired me to give trekking a try. I’ve had some health issues diagnosed in the last three years that have hit me so hard. Right before Covid, right before a long awaited retirement. It becomes difficult to know how much depression is a factor but getting out into nature calls my name. I’m buying all those moleskin things. Are those listed in your equipment list somewhere.
