Since many people asked: Yes you can heal dungeons up to level 40 quite easily even without putting any point in the holy tree. If you are skilled and not extremely outgeared you can even go as far as level 50 without any major problems. Just don't be too passive. Try to actively get the killing blow with your wand to procc spirit tap. It takes a while to practice but once you get the hang of it, you can run dungeons with spirit tap being active most of the time, which saves a lot of drinking time. If you feel confident and you don't have mana issues you can even assist dealing damage and at the same time doing passive heals given by vampiric embrace. However, it also depends on your group setup. If the group is good, you have more freedom to play around, if not you need to play it more safely.

Keep shadow damage wands longer into 40s it stacks with the shadow damage vulnerability and damage talents and will do more than the nature upgrade stated in this video.

Exactly, the 30% extra shadow damage (shadow form + the 5 +3% stacks from shadow spells) is pretty huge. So 35 dps -> 45 dps

Couple more tricks: 1. Vampiric Embrace turns out to be insanely mana-efficient heal when you are leveling. 2. Sometimes it may make sense to use psychic scream rank 1 instead of shield - for less mana you get the same effect: mob is not dealing damage to you and does not push your MF back.

Great for AoE Lvling with a Mage buddy. You can keep the bubbles and Holy Nova's Rolling, while the mage rounds the mobs up and you can both Vaporize them

Playing a Troll Priest now and yes, wands are your key ASSET! Keep them close to your level as possible. Once you get into that -5-6 levels away.... Go get another wand ASAP! Find a nice balance as well with Int/Spirit gear. Worry not on those items that have only +15 Healing power etc... Useless until end game instances and of course until you re-talent into a healing priest. You want mana any day over +10 healing gear especially while grinding to level. Instances in lower levels as a Disc/shad priest "healing" is pretty easy going without putting talents into Holy, I say this lightly as it factors does depend on the group/tank. Great video!!!

If you, like me, don't like Mind Flay (channeling that can be easily interrupted if not shielded, mediocre damage, high mana dependency) you could go for Shadow Weaving and use its advantages for both your WoP and MB. Just stack it to 3-4 stacks with 1st level shadow WoP - it costs almost nothing, have no cd and is instant-cast - then nuke the mob with max MB for the 5th stack of SW and put the maxed WoP - then just want it refreshing SW with either maxed MB or WoP till the enemy is dead. If you can spare 5 points into Blackout, most mobs won't even get to you due to being stunned by a spree of your low level shadow spells. Works well enough with Shadow form, as it's no real necessity to switch out of it for holly spells.

I was a Night-Elf Priest from the start of WoW and raided all the way up to AQ40 (Huhuran at 6% just before BC came out, talk about frustration), here the nature resist of Night-Elfs was useful (also the raid of ZG20). Not sure if I want to go to another race now. I almost never came in a situation where we needed fear ward because in my guild it was mandatory that each tank could change stance and go berserk - (I forgot the name) the ability to resist fear and immediately go back to defence stance. Yes it was not easy the first 10-20 tries, but eventually after wiping a lot this helped the raid a lot into not getting desperate and accepting a dwarf priest who can't keep up with the pace. For Desperate prayer it was only useful a couple of times in raid for resurrecting the entire raid, but still, not a huge advantage because 9/10 you have a paladin or a warlock in your raid that can be a lot more useful for resurrecting and shielding. Either way my point is that I think for those that want to go back to the old "hardcore" style like I was, it's okay to go night-elf. Just make sure that you keep your raid alive 🙂.

My only advice to players leveling priest is to take Wand Specialization over Spirit Tap first . Spirit tap only increases the players spirit by 100 percent and at those levels players have very little spirit. If I have 1 spirit and I increased my spirit by 100 percent, that gives me a whopping 2 spirit!! Yeah, I'll take the plus 25 percent wand damage before I choose increasing my spirit by 100 percent at those levels.

This advice isnt so good. If you want to kill mobs constantly with something else than pure wanding without downtime take the spirit tap first. Maybe this guy just hasnt leveled priest before(?) :)

@@tolikka1483 its great advice. I'm sorry I didn't make it clear. So what you do is front load your spells and finish off the mob with wanding. Open with mind blast or smite into shadow word pain and finish with wanding while maintaining shield on yourself. By doing it this way, your mana regen (5 seconds of not casting any spell) should kick in and you should have nearly full mana by the time the mob dies. There are so many video guides explaining this. Maybe you never leveled a priest? 😘

Another great video Punkrat. I would like to add something. There is an alternative, more engaging and better dps-wise, rotation. Normally on my priest, between 2x wand strikes I use a melee swing with my staff. It has a different swing timer, which means you can use it right after a wand shot and it deals more dmg than a single wand hit.

Hey man. Good guide. I have to say though I think your under playing troll priest impact on pvp. Shadow guard has 3 charges procs blackout and all other buffs like shadow weaving the undead equivalent has 1 charge. Troll has hex which is basically mortal strike without the damage and it only costs 35 mana at rank 1 which is all that's needed. I honestly think the undead racial is overrated. Its 1 effect every 3 mins and I cant remember if it shares cool down with pvp trinket The undead priest abilities iirc are all cool down based where as troll is spamable.. kind of..

There is a way to have zero mana break while leveling , even in subpar gear. I remember reading from a priests posts swearing it and it took me awhile to get down, because the rotation is very complex, but if you are highly flexible with downranks and using exactly the right spells , you can literally farm forever without stopping. Leveled a priest to 60 , in just under 6days played. Anyone interested in this, LMK

Another tip: put your melee (staff) auto attack on your bar, as soon as your character does the animation for the wand attack press melee and back to wand attack as soon as the animation happens, try to match your staff with your wand attack speed. Just weave them together like this, it's off the same timer so you can squeeze that bit more damage! All about the pace!!

Just a few minor things I noticed as a Priest main: You didn't mention all of the Priest Racials. Why did you leave out Hex of Weakness, Feedback etc.? As for the Talents, Imp Mind Blast is pretty worthless. Also, which talents are best depends on what race you are. For example, Blackout is extremely good for Trolls because of Shadowguard but pretty useless otherwise for other races. All in all, I would have liked a bit more nuance but thanks for the video anyway dude!

Overall good video. One thing a lot of Priest videos are failing to mention is the ability to melee/wand weave attacks. It adds .2 seconds to wand casts, but increases your overall DPS on a mob, especially if you train staff and have a staff as your melee weapon. Like you joked, just wanding is going to get seriously boring; so adding a melee weave into the mix gives you something to actually do while leveling. Highly recommend weaving, you kill mobs faster that way (I'd estimate 10-20% faster).

you forgot to mention Vampiric Embrace (the healing debuff). You should also always apply that once you get shadowform. This is your replacement of Renew, also really great in PvP. Sadly you also forgot to mention the wisp form for nightelves (you WILL DIE), it increases your leveling speed much more than rolling dwarf (unless desperate prayer saves your ass). Also the troll regen passive and Touch of Weakness (the 2nd troll priest racial) is also amazing in pvp to reduce healing of enemies. I also forgot to say that Starshards looks amazing and is so much better than Mindflay, Smite or Holy Fire. Put shield on and cast starshards. It does amazing damage. More damage per mana. Arcane priest ftw

Ne priest is just a Basic disadvantage against the other Alliance races. Stoneform, fear ward, and desperate prayer is just that op. Even the stealth detection. Just not worth rolling Night elf, if you are thinking in progress, and looking at it objectively and not subjectively.

I would say get Spirit Tap first over wands for sure, it's so helpful at those early levels. What I do is open with Smite, SW Pain, then Mind Blast and proceed with wanding until dead.. The reason I open with Smite is the long cast time which increases as you get hit.. It's totally up to you on how to do your rotation.. but for sure put all your first points in Spirit Tap Talents.

I’m hoping you do druid sometime pretty soon. That’s definitely the class I am going to roll when classic drops. It would be great to see you discuss a lot of things most people don’t seem to discuss with druid. Like power shifting and how that works for example. The Druid is capable of so many different types of builds and play styles and it seems like everyone focuses on feral hybrid for leveling and resto for post 60. But there is so much flexibility in the class that people never dive too deep into.

No point in using PW:S before you have shadow form. Without the need to switch in and out of the form, it's much more mana-efficient to simply heal yourself every once in a while. PW:S would only make sense if you were still hardcasting once the mob reaches you. But at this point you typically already wand. Also there was one thing yo did in the video but didn't mention, which is actually important: When you cast SW:P as your second spell, use the GCD to walk away from thr mob and gain some distance, so the mob reaches you later, which can be the difference between being pushed back or not on your last hardcast.

it's really more forgiving than most other classes, as you have a lot of extra rope to double-pull... just dot em both up, shield, renew, wand.

No you can heal even being shadow spec. As for leveling with a buddy you can change your spec a bit if you want. Honestly the whole go shadow priest for leveling is really not necessary either anyway.

You don't. You go shadow/disc still and you're able to heal content just fine. Trust me. You do not want to deviate from spirit tap/wand until lvl 60. And even then you can go a weird shadow weave/holy hybrid for buffing locks in raid.

Troll is by far the best PvP Priest (at least on Horde, Dwarfs are sadly Ally only). Shadowguard procs Blackout which stuns the enemy, it also scales very well with spellpower and does way more damage than DP. Also, as a Horde Priest you will face a lot of paladins, and this is not going to be like in Vanilla where people dont dispell dots. Troll also have a ranged MS that can only be dispelled by Mage and Druids, oh, and it only cost 25 mana (you only need rank 1).

Maybe, but PvPing as a priest is miserable in vanilla. You are the #1 focus target and you have almost zero ability to escape stun-lock. Honestly, if you are levelling a priest as an inferior dps, for PvP, you will be rage-quitting long before you start ranking up.

You forgot a lot of things in this vid, one of which is the fact that wand and auto attack are on different timers, so you can actually swap between shoot and auto attack to do a lot more dps, especially with a staff

​@@Punkrat I mean, mentioning priest racial spells but excluding "less important" ones seems weird. Touch of Weakness helps Undead with an extra proc of shadow weave (even just rank 1)/blackout chance, but also helps show that the Troll racial is a better version, with the Human's Feedback being a weird version of the Undead one. Hex of Weakness is great for PvP (again, rank 1 blanketing in BGs for 20% less healing? Nuts!). They all have their uses, just some less so (*cough* Night Elf *cough*), but that doesn't make them any less important. Sorry, seemed like a super negative response, and suuuper focused on one issue haha, but overall great video. Love seeing all the Classic hype!!!

I dont think that true at all. Shadow vs lock is a oom battle that takes very long... the lock might have an edge but its not an easy matchup. Also the lock has alot of cds like void shild, healthstone, spellstone, pet rezz while a shadowpriest is just allways ready to go.
