Set dances are always danced to the same music, in this case a tune called Vanishing Lake. In other dances in Irish Dance, a reel can be danced to any reel of the right tempo, hornpipe to any hornpipe, etc.

It’s because it’s traditionally worn, bc Irish people had curly hair. I searched that up
