It was called "Vanishing Point" because you will always see as far as you can, without any pop-up model or texture. They made this possible by hiding the pop up behind every turn and every up and down-hill of the track. That is why all tracks have that many turns/hills and short straights. But, if you check the Race4 you'll see one of the longest straights in the bridge, the end of the bridge is hidden behind an uphill, but they can't hide the building poping it 23:40 at the end of the road.

This is the most 2000's game I've ever seen. But seriously, this game was actually pretty neat. Apart from the weird physics, the car list was very interesting and surprisingly, the sounds were very good.

You actually need to adjust tire pressures to make the cars handle better at speed. It's a great game for both PS1 and the Dreamcast!

no draw distance pop-in, pretty rare for the day. but the tracks are clearly designed in such a way to not have long, unobstructed views into the distance to achieve this. ridge racer games had a similar track design philosophy but the draw distance was so short you could still see the pop-in.

Loved this game when it was first released, yes the car physics were unusual but with practice it kind of became instinctive. I remember unlocking everything which was really satisfying. Great graphics for a PS1 game with long draw distances and lovely track designs and it looks even nicer with the perspective correction on Beetle.

In retrospect this game simulated broken suspension really well! Level design was always good though - coherent, colorful 2000’s style, with enough detail to make the tracks feel part of a bigger world Thanks again for playing a childhood classic, driving was stunning as always but in this case you tamed the wonkiest driving physics of all

Rock textures look pretty impressive for the PS1, surprisingly high res. Game environments as a whole look pretty sharp, not a lot of muddy textures that was common to see back then.

I got this game randomly when I have my PS1 long ago. This was my other favorite racing game to GT2, it had this mysterious and classy feeling, while the physics take some getting used to, it was overall a fun game.

Call me crazy, but Vanishing Point really pushes PS1 graphics beyond it´s very limits.... I see it on par, or even a little above GT 2 and RR Type 4 on the visuals department. No surprise why Dreamcvast version looks very good, despite working with the same 32 bit engine, but enhanced
