I believe Prince loved her until the end. He was doing a concert in Australia when he got the news of her passing and immediately got on a piano and paid tribute to her. I read somewhere he paid her medical bills when she was ill. I believe not only he suffered pain needing a hip replacement but also from a broken heart. RIP to Prince and Denise aka Vanity🙏

It will ALWAYS be Vanity!!! Apollonia was pretty, but Vanity was gorgeous and exuded a sex appeal that Apollonia couldn't match. Apollonia didn't have the same stage presence either. Vanity could work a crowd. Somebody once said that there could be dozens of beautiful women in a room with Vanity, but all eyes would focus on her. As far as Purple Rain goes, Vanity left the Prince camp 3 weeks before they were to start filming. She even wrote some of the script. They had to hold auditions to find a replacement fast. That's how they found Apollonia. Like I said, she was pretty, but she did not ooze sex appeal like Vanity.

Appolonia wasn’t around when Vanity was dating Prince. Vanity was to be the Kid’s love interest on Purple Rain. But after she split. Prince replaced her with Appollonia. And the rest is history…. The other women in the group were Brenda Bennett - then wife of Leroy Bennett who was Prince’s lightning director. Prince heard her singing to a new track of his while she ironed his shirt and declared she would be the final member he had been seeking for group 😂 Susan Moonsie - she said she first met Prince just after he signed his first record deal. He came to their home for dinner and the whole family knew him. At their first meeting he told her she would be a member of a group he was considering 😂. She says she wasn’t too sure about that idea but she and her sister went along with Prince’s photo shoot ideas when he was starting out. They appear in some of the early promo pictures 😂

While it’s true Prince had a primary type, I think it’s fair to say he loved appreciated respected and was inspired by WOMEN of all kinds. If you look at the bands he was in and all his videos, there are always women celebrated and in the forefront and women of all different shapes sizes ages and colors. He may have preferred the light skinned, wavy haired look… but quite a few weren’t that. Fun fact: he was in a serious relationship with Nona Gaye (Yes, Marvin’s daughter) for 3 yrs. Another fun fact: the “baby” persona in Vanity/Appollonia 6- the one in the pink? That’s Susan Moonsie and she was Princes longtime girlfriend in the early 80s… that is until Vanity came along.
