Vanity was the most beautiful of Prince's women. If she had starred in Purple Rain instead of Apollonia the movie would have really been FIYAH! Vanity is with Prince now two of the most beautiful people to have graced this planet.
@venusb75417 жыл бұрын
Actually, Vanity was suppose to have starred in Purple Rain as the leading lady, but due to numerous reasons, she left the project before it began to film. I love the movie but it would've blown up more had she stayed.
@yansatoussaint22666 жыл бұрын
That Jackson Girl Is Bad I agree. Purple Rain would have been pure FIYAH! The reason I hear she left is that Prince didn't want to pay Vanity what she was worth!
@venusb75416 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply! But a lot of people would agree with you lmao. And it was many reasons why she decided to drop out of the project. Money issues (sadly, I believe this was around the time she became addicted to drugs. Maybe Prince knew about her drug use and feared if he gave her more money, she would spend them on drugs) their romantic relationship failing (though they were still seeing each other on the low until 1989), her wanting to go solo, and her upcoming addiction to cocaine. Vanity said it was because of money, but I believe it was a combination of the reasons I listed out. People even said that she was pregnant with Prince's kid because she looked thicker once she left his camp and Vanity 6. I'm not sure about this rumor but it could be a possibility. She joked around about that rumor in a couple of interviews but the world would never truly know.

I see some people saying her voice was terrible, but if it was why did I like all of her songs? She had something going for her, and it was way more than her looks. I loved her movies, her shows she guest starred on, everything. She inspires me in a way, and I am still wrapped up in her mystique. This song was so ghostly and wonderful, I felt like she was singing to me. I know she's christian now, but I wish she didn't look back on all of it like it was a mistake, because she made me sit up, and take notice, and maybe follow my dreams, and I know I'm not the only one. Thank you, Ms. Vanity Matthews:)

IceReverie :you are right!Jill Jones,one of Prince's girlfriends(the one who played a small part and looked like Marilyn Monroe with the blonde hairstyle)....was who Vanity was singing about when she said Marilyn couldn't love him like she did.

@@Haterzarefans didn't look nothing like the beautiful Monroe. Vanity meant her blonde hair cut only. If this the girl that played in purple rain. She looked like a light skinned black in the movie. Nose and all. Both she and Appolonia had a darkness in skin in the movie. I saw Appolonia in an interview ,she looked totally different then she did in Purple Rain. Her skin was lighter and she didn't look as pretty.

Absolutely beautiful! I loved this song way back then and still do. I think she sounds beautiful. I think her voice is beautiful and she uses it how it can be used. It fits this song and this song fits her. I loved many of her songs after Vanity 6 and still own the albums. She may not be able to belt it out like Etta James but she doesn't try to either, and this isn't that kind of song. I can't think of another female singers voice or style that would fit this song. There's room for all types of singers and songs in this world. If everyone sounded the same, music would suck.

"Samuelle", the 2nd single from "Wild Animal", was a BLATANT rip-off of Diana Ross' minor Oct. 1983 single, "Pieces Of Ice", BUT...Vanity's abstract lyrics give it a sensuous, light, airy vibe...her sexy lace 'Wedding Dress' tells a story of a lost love, gone.....washed away, with the 'Purple Rain'....(3:53)

I think she's an underrated singer. Not the strongest range, but great timing and interpretation. She really sells the interesting lyrics, which she wrote for this LP. Too bad she left the Prince camp so early on.
@shirleyhoover36129 жыл бұрын
vampod1 Yes, I agree, and I would think the mark of a wonderful singer would be to know their limitations and to use their voice accordingly. She's not trying to sing opera here; she's trying to make something dramatic and worth listening to and I agree. Yes, I agree double about her 'selling the lyrics'. This song is mysterious and romantic, like she herself was oftentimes.
