It's really interesting to see a revival of Merrily happen in the age of social media, where you can use tools like youtube and reddit and such to emphasise the chemistry between the three core leads, and make people invest in the friendship that anchors the story. Like, watching this, you really feel like you're part of this cool group, and you want to see what happens to these people, and you know you would be absolutely devastated if they were, say, to grow apart forever.
