This is by far the most practical layout i've seen , many other company have weired design such as burner right beside bed , super small toilet ,lots of storage drawer but no closet to hang , some of the clothes you just don't want to fold them into little cube , this is good .

Thank you for sharing this van. So many really good features. For the second video please include: 1) separate sliding screen door? 2) toilet type (cassette)? 3) power sliding door? 4) mattress width and length? 5) weight of build (e.g. w.r.t. to payload)? 6) is this 170 a 4x4? 7) are all windows 'aftermarket' (e.g. sliding door, side windows and, in particular, the rear windows?) (you said this started as a cargo van with 'no' windows)? 8) inverter size? 9) insulation (and looks like back doors are not insulated)? 10) the 'low profile' inside of the AC is great (so is the shower stall from VanLand) . Thanks for expaining below the solar system size below. All the best! Greg

You weren’t kidding when you said This van really does have everything. With that being said, you guys did a phenomenal job in using all of the interior space very wisely. At no point do you feel cramped while being inside. The fact that you have a lounge area that can sit 2 people very comfortably with an additional 3rd person if need be, without compromising the space of the galley area is quite amazing. I was also very amazed by how large the shower/bathroom area is and how it doesn’t feel like it affects the overall amount of space. When you compare these two areas with the Revel, it’s clear that Winnebago did not do them Justice the way you guys did with this build. Overall this van is absolutely amazing and Anyone who lives on the open road or does any kind of off roaring would be more than happy to own a rig like this!

To everyone out there thinking of buying a van especially if you are thinking of hauling freight , RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH !! I thought I knew what I was doing and bought an awesome Ford Transit 350 HD All Wheel Drive High Roof Long Wheel base Dually thinking I could haul any and all freight only to learn too late that YOU CANNOT HAUL FREIGHT WITH A DUALLY VAN !! THE WIDTH INSIDE BETWEEN THE WHEEL WELLS IS TOO NARROW !! Now I am trying to trade for a Sprinter . JUST TRYING TO SAVE OTHERS AGGRAVATION . I love VANLAND AND THEIR BUILDS JUST BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING !!!Than You for sharing !!

This is by very far the best Van I've seen so far. It's perfect. The only little thing: The bathroom needs a little window for the dampness to vent out. Other than that, this is so stunnigly beautiful. The soundsystem and the bathroom amatures are a complete bullseye. Outstanding!

WOW!!!! very true the whole look of the van inside gives a open feel. It is perfect for me ...well thought through..all the windows the skylight and eye level switches are very practical. The shower is AWESOME...enough space with a very clean look. The leather inserts are beautiful. The sound system is a big plus. The owners of this van is very fortunate. Looking forward to more practical, beautiful and homey builts to come. Well done.

How do you keep the watertank from freezing in cold temps? Why not more solar panels up top? One seems inadequate.
@VanLand
@VanLand 2 жыл бұрын
To prevent freezing of the water tanks while in use, we include a hot water recirculation loop. Or, as with all RV’s, you can winterize the system. Some manufacturers use heating pads but being based here in California, this particular build won’t see too many freezing days. As far as solar goes, adding more panels means giving up the ability to move around on the roof rack. Plus most of the power comes from the alternator so adding another panel, while nice to max out the solar, is too big of a trade off vs roof access. Space is at a premium so we have to make some tough decisions.
@Moneyhan1
@Moneyhan1 Жыл бұрын
I would take the additional solar over the roof access all day long. Wouldn’t want to have to run the engine often to keep things charged up. Looks like more could easily be added if that was someone’s preference.

I concur about preferring extra solar panels in lieu of roof access. Most people aren’t going to us the roof access for cargo or sightseeing as much as they would expect. Better to use the space for solar, A/C, and vents.
@peggyjones392
@peggyjones392 Жыл бұрын
Beautiful build. I agree with some of the other writers…. why not more solar? In our 170 4x4 3500 Sprinter build (another builder) will have 4 of the Zamp 90 watt long panels on an Aluminess rack, Max air fan and Nomadic 12 volt AC. They worked hard to get everything on there by elevating the solar panels and placing them along either side of the fan and AC. We will still have deck space towards the rear of the van. No sky light. We didn’t want that because of heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter.

Awesome van. Literally the only thing I would change if it were mine (and it's very minor) for the cabinet with the gauges, I would make it glass or some other translucent material so I could see the gauges without having to open the cabinet. Again, such a minor change, but I think it would be next level.

I would prefer a rear configuration of a backseat and side lounge seats that electrically converts to a bed. When not using it as a bed, you have extra seating while driving or lounge area when parked. Plus it would give it an open/more spacious feel rather than having a dedicated bed occupying a third of the van.
@VanLand
@VanLand Жыл бұрын
That’s a good design concept. But in reality, most people prefer a bed that is made and doesn’t have to be out away and set up every day. Having said that, I agree it gives a more spacious feeling. Thanks for watching!

I just bought a 144" Sprinter build, but thought the 170" makes so much more sense. You can have both under-bed storage and a reasonable hangout/dining area. Unfortunately, the upgrade appears to cost $85,000 and 6-8 additional months. That's just ridiculous.

100 watts of solar doesn't seem to be enough for a true off grid multi-day experience. How long do you estimate your clients can run this van without needing to plug in and charge? Can you re-charge the power via the van engine? Also, seems like the bed would be uncomfortable sleeping without a headboard for neck/head comfort and insulation insert of some kind on cold nights. Have you had any feedback from the owners on that? And finally, with all that glass exposure, can this rig handle adventures during all four seasons?

As far as I can tell, custom builders charge $130,000 and up for this. So, add that to a $65-75k chassis. The total cost ends up being ridiculous. You can buy an off-the-lot/factory 144" version of this for $135,000. So, the at-the-dealership cost plus $10k in after-market upgrades. The 144" is a compromise in that you will lose storage or the hangout area, but is having both worth $80k more? That seem crazy to me. Hopefully, the volume brands will start building smarter 170s.

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE BUILD !! Is there a way to create more storage UNDER The bed to access from the inside of the van ?

Yes, there are three drawers under the bed accessible from the front. Also, we can do this with a full pass-through beneath the bed if you want to store longer items such as skis inside.

I really like it I’m very impressed by it, I would like to see a fan in the bathroom to pull out the air, compression in the front and back on the front tailgate and the back tailgate, I wonder if you could create something with the solar panel where you could have three solar panels up there but have a way to stretch them out when your parked, maybe you some hydraulics.. In the way that the water tanks are under the bed of the vehicle what about freezing

Really nice build! Just the right amount of rugged outside and that client chosen color is perfect. Super job on the inside especially with the flares for the bed. I always wonder though why are they not wider or taller and more commonly used. You could almost have half of a slide a side. Loved the tour ... Cheers

Lovely look. What's with the space next to the smaller seat (where the worktop extension is). I saw you stood there. What's the design idea behind it?

There is no under carriage protection. It cannot be winterized....its just limited to light offroad and summers.

I just love this! Very beautifully done! Could the shower and the commode be made into two separate compartments?

My Question is , Why you didn't provide a larger solar system to support 600 Ah of lithium bat's . I get the Dc to Dc charger , is good ; but who wants to hear their motor running while catching peaceful serenity @ camp ? ( especially running a 12v A/C )

Hi Alpha- this is a question we get a lot. Here's why we only included one 100 watt solar panel on this build. First, there's only room for 300 watts of solar at most on the roof rack in this design since we have a roof fan, air conditioner and skylight to work around. By adding even one more panel, there would be no room left to move around on the roof rack which is a major bummer and not a trade off worth making for an extra 6-12 amps of power generation (in full sun). Secondly, there's plenty of battery storage to run the air conditioner all day without starting the engine. So, we agree, no one wants to run the engine in order to run the A/C. Thankfully that doesn't ever happen with this design. Ideally, you start your trip with full batteries and every time the vehicle is driven, the alternator is supplying 30-50 amps of power to charge the batteries. A secondary alternator will give you 100+ amps of power. The solar panels contribute a little bit of power when the sun is out, but there's simply no way to have enough solar on the roof to keep up with the power demand of a 12v A/C. We would need to put 600+ watts of solar (at least) to keep up with the A/C and there just isn't enough room for that on the roof considering the other equipment. So, a better strategy is to add some additional battery storage and a good alternator charger and park in the shade when running the A/C. Believe me, we love solar power, but it does have it's limitations and the space required to get significant power generation from solar is the one big downside. Looking forward to future generations of solar panels that pack more power collection into every square inch!

@@VanLand ok that makes sense , the cost of limited space. thanks for taking the time to respond. I am planning to swap out my A/C for a 12v , i do have 850W of solar to support 400ah of lithium with dual 220 amp alternators , so it should be worth it. ~peace~
