i’m 55 years old and we started going there when I was in the fourth grade. They had just transformed the town into a Bavarian mountain town. They were in dire need of money because the lumber meals had shut down and Helen was in dire need of jobs. This is what they did. I’ve enjoyed going back there every year since.

I believe that was spätzle, I think pronounced (spat-zla / long a sound), are a type of Central European egg noodles typically served as a side dish. I lived in Las Vegas for a while and dated someone who was German. We frequented a German restaurant, and that was always one of my favorites. Love this little town and the history!
@Justfr4nky9 ай бұрын
Nice pronounciation.. 😊 i agree. looks exactly like Spätzle. Those traditional German Restaurants are obviously the best. We have all Kind of fancy Restaurants due to the different cultures here. But nothing better then a Wirtshaus Schnitzel.. at least in my opinion. Brown thick Sauce, Spätzle or Knödel. ❤ Love it

this video made my mouth water, I lived in Germany for six years as an Army Brat and our family loved the food and still have it when we come across things such as Bratties - if you can get Zempf I highly recommend it, a German Mustard with extra kick. Schnitzel is Veal (or can now be chicken); Jaeger is the sauce made of peppers while my favourite is veal fried with breadcrumbs served with a creamy mushroom sauce. 😋

Hey Trent, just wanted to tell you that your videos have helped me with developing a new perspective on life. I moved from a very large city that didn't have much of anything with adventure and getting out of the confines of a city and I moved because of a career all the way mid west. Immediately I got depressed and became a recluse and got really unhealthy until I found your channel. Your channel has helped me change my outlook on life and get out and experience my surroundings in a new way. Because of this, I hike throughout the week and on the weekends and have eliminated my unhealthy habits and I'm on recovery. I can't thank you enough for allowing me to get out and live life. Thanks so much.

I’ve lived in Georgia my whole life and grew up going to Helen every fall. So this was truly the most close to home video for me you’ve ever made, especially when you went into Betty’s, as that’s literally my favorite store there that I have so many memories of. The town has gained a lot of publicity though the past several years so it is a bit saddening how crowded it is today with much more stern rules than what I’m used to. A lot of the cabin rentals there though that I used to stay at have recently been switching to Airbnb, which is really annoying because of course that brings along all of Airbnb’s BS fees.

Loved this video. My parents were born in Germany and I’m very familiar with authentic German food. One of our favorites is Jager Schnitzel which you had ordered in the town of Helen. It really did look delicious. Love the red cabbage and the spaezle (which you referred to as gnocchi). That is definitely my favorite but it needs to have either a butter sauce or brown gravy to complete the flavoring. So glad you enjoyed the food and looks like you did a pretty great job with the brats, sauerkraut and fried onions. I think you could pass for German👍. What a beautiful town Helen is. It really looks like an authentic German town from Germany. Loved the way it was lit up at night. Thanks for the great video. Totally enjoyed it. You never disappoint😊😊

I don't know where you normally go to eat, but what he had didn't look so good to me. The schnitzel was yellow and the breading still looked kind of raw. The spaetzle looked good, but it looked more like cheese spaetzle, which, like the red cabbage, didn't go with the Jägerschnitzel at all. So the individual components did, but the plate as a whole wasn't really authentic.

As far as a German from North Rhine-Westphalia can tell, I would say it looks authentic. The town is reminiscent of the old "Fachwerkhäuser" that you tend to find in the east or south of Germany.
