Was in Orkney for a “day” vaccinating a workforce there. Was told that it would take a week to see everything. Beautiful place and very clean. Orcadian people are very friendly. Would have loved to have stayed longer but would have missed my flight home.

Orkney's archaeology is UNBELIEVABLE - Skara Brae, The Ring of Brodgar, Maes Howe etc. Clearly 5,000 years ago Orkney was the centre of civilisation. Must go up there again sometime soon. Carry on with your travels...

Yeah there is so much history, we didn't even scratch the surface! Safe travels 😁

When you got on the ferry you mentioned you forgot to turn off the gas bottle and then turned it off. Even when you’re driving it is recommended to do this. Probably to do with safety measures in case you have an accident. We never drive in our campervan with the gas bottle turned on. Just saying, better to stay on the safe side. Loved the vlog. Beautiful scenery, great to drive along 🙂.

Ahhh yes those puffin guys are adorable! Never seen any in person. We definitely don't have them on this side of the pond. I hear they are rather tame around people. Very cool you spotted that owl too! Also, what an adorable church you came across. How about that wee goodie box! Sweet stuff once again you two.

Aw the Owl and the Puffin was great. The Owl is amber listed sadly and the Puffin is red listed as far as U.K. conservation is concerned. The Gulls were Fulmars - amazing to see them because they are also Amber listed as was the black and white bird - which is a Razorbill. They need more amazing places like Orkney. 💕

Wow Gemma and Campbell what a lovely place Orkney is. I know it held special memories for my late parents and a couple of my friends have been and loved it. It is on my list as is to see puffins too! Also The Storehouse in Kirkwall looks good, I've just had a look at their website and it's good to see their restaurant caters for dietary needs.

Hari OM Fantabulous! My sister lived and worked on Orkney for many years - and married an Orcadian (though they are not in Edin); my memory of visits there is the level wind. As in it levels everything and thus no trees! So glad you got this trip in - and saw your puffins and the owl. The other seabirds were not gulls, though; they were Fulmar and Guillemot (the latter with the black head). Happy trails, young uns! YAM xx

We were lucky to have Rissos dolphins swim beside the ferry on the way there. I'm positive there were orcas chasing them but noone else saw them so I doubt it. I've dived all around Scotland and went to Norway during the herring feast and still haven't seen Orca. I'm starting to think they are mythical Disney beasts. I hope you go back for a longer trip and maybe visit the other islands. The shortest scheduled flight in the world is to one of the islands (westray iirc)
@highlands2hammocks2 жыл бұрын
Aww wow, that is so cool 😁 haha I know, I think I’ll feel like I’m dreaming if I ever do see one now 😂 we would love to go back and give the islands more time 😊 just need to find the right time to do it 😂

Great film: loved the drone work. Normally deeply envious of the way you are able to linger on your travels but this time it was a flying visit. We spent two weeks last summer in Orkney and it wasn't enough. Visiting two of the Outer Islands Sanday and Westray was particularly wonderful. Hoping you will be back soon!

Aww I know, honestly we really would have loved to spend longer there! Looking forward to going back again and having a more relaxed trip there! We still need to visit a lot of the islands but we want to make sure that we can spend a longer amount of time there when we do 😊

do you know why they are called puffins. well its because when they nest, they never land close to there home, and then they have to climb up the hill or mountain to get home, i am sure you would be out of breath as well lol

Haha I love it! Is that really why? I’ve never heard that before 😂

Hi you two, lovely video, stunning views, was it expensive to cross? So nice to see how passionate you are about your Scotland. Keep up the good work 👍 P.S. Campbell you should turn off your gas whenever you drive (not just ferry crossing) 🤔
@highlands2hammocks2 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it Simon 😊 it was around £260 return I think for us and the van 😊 we do mostly turn the gas off when we drive, we have a reminder list in our visor to remind us cause admittedly, we sometimes we forget 😬 unfortunately we also have wheel clamp on the list too as we’ve tried to drive away with that on before too! 🤦🏼♀️
@Kermit-Si2 жыл бұрын
What are you like 🤣xx Question? I've only had my campervan a couple of months and my first thoughts was the North 500. Is it true I've heard its got so popular that the local shops and traders can't keep up with the demand?. So I'm leaving that trip for now, I've come up with the South 500, I'm setting off tomorrow up the east coast as far as Edinburgh then crossing to the west, Gourock and slowly down the west coast, hoping for some stunning sunsets. Take care guys 👍

Hi Gemma and Campbell. Great video! We're going to Orkney end of June this year. How long does it normally take to get off the ferry once it's docked? Is it a faff or is it really quick to get on the road?
@highlands2hammocks8 ай бұрын
Hi Carly, from memory it was relatively quick but I guess it can also depend on where your vehicle is parked 😊 we didn't think it took too long though. Enjoy your trip, that should be a beautiful time of year to visit 😁

As much as like your travels, I think you would get more views which after all means more revenue if you were not so much in a hurry. You are so quick to leave one place off to another. Limited exploring as though Orkney as though all you saw exists. Take a recent vlog to the Black Isle to Munlochy. One night and you were off. I lived here for many years and there is so much to see you missed. To be honest you need to add more of the places to see in one area and show us. But yes it is not my channel, just an observation.
@highlands2hammocks2 жыл бұрын
We are looking forward to being able to slow down a little. Unfortunately work commitments over the past few months have put us on a tighter time schedule. In saying that, we actually spend longer in places than what the video will show as we don’t film everything we do. Thank you for your observation though, it’s always great to hear some feedback 😊
