Work from home is now becoming hybrid work and I want to make sure I have enough coverage when I don't have access to regular WIFI. I compare Verizon's 5G Ultra-Wideband offering and compare it to my AT&T hotspot through my iPhone to see if having both of these coverage options is really needed in order to guarantee the ability to work from the road.

Good unbiased info! When using public/unsecured Wi-Fi while out in Bertha, do you use a VPN?
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I do not typically use a VPN as they tend to slow down web speeds. On public networks I just don’t typically do anything that isn’t just mundane surfing so I feel like the VPN isn’t really needed most of the time. When I do use one I use Tunnel Bear.

Cool stuff thanks for sharing. I plan on getting mine next week or so.. How were the speeds after the “allowance” and were you throttled, and how bad was the throttling speeds? Thank you
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure 2 жыл бұрын
I actually never went over the data allotment so I haven’t hit the throttling yet. I’m actually curious to see if they keep the 5G UW throttling when that network becomes available everywhere. It’s supposed to only slow down to 5Mbps at the slowest if you go over your data.

Its very good modem inside snapdragon x65 like s23 and apple new series the only big problem is no outside antenna to plug in that's why not good for traveling because sometime need a outdoor antenna to boost the signal.

You are addressing the exact question that I am shopping for now. I have att with a good data but need backup for coverage. I want to work fromRV but need to know I can join the zoom calls and so on. I am going to add Verizon to the mix just need to pick plan and device. It seems 5g won’t be much of a thing for camping as we won’t be in cities. …..will have to guess a bit if I get a g5 hotspots now.
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure 2 жыл бұрын
Having both ATT and Verizon as options have definitely helped and if I did not have both there would have been times that my data speed was not what I needed it to be to work. I am STILL having issues actually finding Verizon's real 5G network. I just got back from a week long van trip to the Puget Sound area, Tacoma specifically and the Verizon hotspot did not ever log onto their faster 5G network while I was there. Just 4G and the fake 5G. Ugh.

The 5g in America is very bad. I have Verizon and there's a mobile hotspot device called the RC400L. I watch Netflix and do zoom calls with it. It only does 4g, but when you connect to 5g in America, usually your connection is slower than 4g. Once in a great while it will be much faster, but that is very rare. I drive all over the nation for work and I've found 5g not worth the extra money.

Hi! Sorry for the late reply. I did not have to get a business plan although it was a headache to order and get set up online. I would probably recommend going into a store. Even when I call customer service for something they act like they can't see it's a hotspot and not a phone. They even try to text me a code that I need to prove it's me even though I keep telling them it's a hotspot that I don't carry with me and don't check the text messages on.

I live in the Chicago metropolitan area. I bought the same exact device 2 months ago and I can tell you that I never got 5G UW connection in any of the advertised Ultra-Wideband coverage areas. That's why I've been in touch with Level 2 tech support, they even reached out to the networking team but in 2 months they didn't come up with a reason why my device doesn't connect to 5G Ultra-Wideband. Just today I received a replacement device from Verizon but that on won't connect either. I am still able to use it as a 5G hotspot device with Speeds up to Upload 100/ Download 50 MBPS but it is really frustrating that I cannot get the Ultra-Wideband speeds which are way faster than what I am getting currently. I am thinking to return the device and cancel the service if they don't fix this soon

Hi, sorry for the delay in responding! I have not found the 5G Ultra coverage areas to be any better now then when I got the hotspot. If worked as advertised all the time, on the faster 5G Ultra bands, if you get throttled it is down to like 5MBs/sec which is very usable for most things. I so far have been throttled on this hotspot several times and it is less than 1 MBs/sec and totally unusable for anything other than checking email. I would not recommend replacing Xfinity with this just yet. I have not found a really well liked “wireless” alternative to traditional home internet. Even Starlink has its issues.

@@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure Thanks for your response I may need to send this unit back and not even open it up. Sounds like from what I read it's not a good idea to try to use it for a whole house system. It's crazy though You only have one option for a good internet connection and then they want to charge you crazy amounts of money. Then there's all these people rolling across getting it for free makes no sense to me I guess the working class is paying for everyone's free internet. If people truly need it I understand but there's a lot of people that are just taking advantage of the system that we have. I guess that's just the nature of the beast. Just wish there was other options. I'm sure they know they got you by the balls..

It’s what they market as unlimited. Up to 50 gb then slow down. On the 5G Ultra Wideband (UW) the slowdown is still about 5mb download speed so in theory you could still stream movies and do video calls.

hmm 30GB on "Unlimited" Plan.. Stupid Verizon play on words on "Unlimited" geez.... 😫 you should test on the throttled speed. BTW, you should check on the Visible wireless $25, unlimited on Verizon network and use PDAnet for hotspot, true UNLIMITED. join the Reddit group for Visible for $25 a month. I plan to use that for fall back instead of my T-Mobile's wireless. Still waiting for my Beyond 22C AWD Li3.. Oct... sigh..

I have the Inseego 5G, but I’m in Canada with Rogers. They don’t make the “unlimited” claim and only offer one plan… $50 per month for 500GB. That’s not a typo, it really is $50 for five hundred GB. I finally that’s enough for me.

I use about 5GB a day. So 75GB would last about 15 days. And Verizon throttling is useless, so that's only about 15 out of 30 days I can use the mobile Internet. Just have to keep in mind that I am not getting a landline Internet which in my case is about 900Mbps and so far never hit a throttling point. HotSpots feels like a handicaped device and expectations are low.

4G versus 5G is completely irrelevant. Useable speeds are the only thing that matter. Mobile internet is still a developing technology. By 2030, it could easily become the primary means for accessing the internet. For now, however, it is still more expensive than home internet. The biggest advantage of mobile internet is that your internet travels with you!! Incidentally, you never need "unlimited data". You only need "more than enough" data. Because it is mobile, it is worth the extra cost. The trick is to purchase a cost effective data plan! Cost effective data plans come and go. Therefore, always be on the lookout for data plans that are suitable for your needs. Suitable data plans could be offered at any time.
