I know I will be happy once I am permanently on the road. After I retired i took my little teardrop out for an extended trip. Taking a shower in a "shower tent" some of the times and just wandering around from home in Fla to Louisiana, Texas, the Alamo, Mexican border, Arkansas, Upstate NY and all over the south eastern states. I had a ball. BUT decided I would be happier with my own toilet, shower, kitchen. So, I got a retired bus and am almost done converting it to a motorhme. Will be permanently on the road inless than a year, I hope.

Best of luck 🤞 Hope you share your adventures, build, etc. Do you plan on putting out videos BigFireDave? 🔥🌿
@BigFireDave3 жыл бұрын
@@Swimdeep Wasn't really thinking about it. The build... no. First of all I'm too far into it already but the main reason is I seriously doubt there is anyone that has or can find a Flxible bus let alone a 91 Metro and so much of the build is making things fit in an oddly shaped bus. And the fact that Flxible went out of business in 95 makes parts hard to find. Luckily the engine is a Detroit 6L71diesle and I can get parts for it ad probably the tranny if need be. I use to work on them before I retired. However, I've been waiting 6 weeks now for Goodyear to custom make some replacement air springs (air suspension) for me. Maybe once I get on the road I may make some videos. Not a professional videographer though so will probably look rather amateurish.
@Swimdeep3 жыл бұрын
@@BigFireDave You would be surprised how many would find your build or even pics of it interesting either based on them having the same rare vehicle or clever work-arounds. I am going to upload soon some of the many changes and fixes I’ve done on my 2001 Blazer 4WD, 2 dr. I am grateful for all the clips I’ve been able to find on KZbin of DIY builds on SUVs and specific Blazer videos. Very helpful. I expect my videos to be amateurish -video production is not my forte-but as long as my videos are clear enough and audio is okay, I’m willing to put myself out there. I hope you decide to share some of your fixes; I personally, would find them interesting. Thanks, and I wish you the best luck on the build and your future adventures.

I'm doing the same, Im simi retired now and I'm actively looking to buy a bus to convert. Im looking for a 5-7 window bus. Small enough I can park anywhere and use it to drive to stores and sightseeing. Big busses are not good for driving into town doing errands and sightseeing. And I don't want to tow a car but I need a bus just big enough to have a small wetbath. I need my toilet and shower. As we get older those night-time bathroom runs become frequent and it would get old going outside in all types of weather and critters could be out there running around stalking the night lol... Im like you, I can wait to get the bus built and hit the road. It something I've always wanted to do is travel the country and outside the country. I want to enjoy the outdoors wake up in the mornings to the sound of running water from a river or stream in the mountains. Relax with a cup of coffee maybe cook breakfast on a open fire I might even do some fishing and kayaking. I just want to take it all in, the sights, fresh air and the sounds of nature. Anyways, I hope your able to hit the road soon relax and enjoy all you want to do follow your dreams. I wish you the best have a fabulous journey & adventure

Hey girlfriend, Lots o good thoughts on this subject. I had itchy feet for more than 20 years. I missed the road.(x truck driver) The thought of being stuck in one place for the rest of my life didn't work anymore. Best decision I made. Hi Lady Bugout I love your videos. They are very inspiring. I had some traumatic event in my life and it left me with Agoraphobia and I am happy to share with you that through small positive life changes, things have improved for me greatly. I only use a bicycle at the moment and my dog comes out with me, but I am trying to get my driving licence so I can try Van life. I love that you have made your Van very personal and homely. If I do try Van life I think I will take that approach and it will be like I am getting out yet I have my home and safe space in a van. I think it will be perfect and help me improve my Agoraphobia because the van will be like my safe space and base and I can go outside and venture further away from the van each time with little baby steps. Thank you for sharing your van life videos. I am very excited about my future and becoming a free spirit once again.

I’m excited and nervous but I think that is part of the challenge. Again, thank you for an awesome video!

@sherrymuzykazekestravels6793 Жыл бұрын
@@elicore.biz81 Unfortunately I haven’t been able to start that part of the journey. I have obligations that won’t permit me to start the actually work and layout. I was planning a very basic and easy build with a bed that was approximately 28” wide and 63” long because that is the length of the bed of my truck. On the other side would have been a framed cabinet that would run the length of the bed and approximately 15” deep and the height would have been to the top of the truck bed just under my camper shell with one shelf under and space underneath for cubbies for pots and pans and other bulky items. It would have had a simple lip on the front of the shelf to hold back simple baskets to prevent from falling out to hold food, utensils, and misc things that are needed. I had drawn all of this out based on the supplies and items I would need on a daily basis and for emergencies or staying over night in a place that I wasn’t sure was ideal, I would sleep in the back seat so that I had easy access to the drivers seat. Like I said, I watched a lot of videos and tried to plan things accordingly to what my needs were. Best of luck to you!

Figuring out what you like and what not in a van is so important imo. Did several summers in a rented VW California and recently also with my puppy, and I know what I'll incorporate in my build and what drives me nuts haha. Some stuff I wouldn't need, but for my pup they come in extremely handy, e.g the outdoor shower to rinse her off.

An excellent video, as always, with lots of good questions for people to answer for themselves before they begin the journey! I think of those who have never camped and agree that they need to "give it a try" before investing in a vehicle and all that goes with it. That's the only way they will know if they like it or not, and they should try it both ways, in a campground & off the grid so that they know they can handle it either way. But probably the best point you made is, "Keep it as simple as possible" while still fitting it to your own personal needs. People need to remember they won't be living IN the vehicle, but living OUT of it if they are truly going to travel. Whatever kind of a vehicle you have is just your sleeping area, except for the occasional bad weather day. The rest of the time they should want to be out exploring this wonderful country of ours and making new friends. Otherwise, what's the point? Thanks for sharing your wisdom! I'm sure it will help many!

Yes please do a video of your evolving changes. I like your additions!! I used french door screens and don't like them because of the darn sliding side door angle of the 2021 van!!! Very necessary thing tho. I watched videos all 2020 and bought my transit connect in March. Finished it in June and just finished my first trip. I (like you) have a home base. Im traveling with my 1 yr old dog for fun and adventure in nature with him. After the 1st night I didn't like it. By the 3rd I was rearranging my baskets under the bed. Now Im loving it but changing it for better convenience such as not having my entire kitchen in a basket under my bed. Trying to figure out how to get most if it up on the counter etc. You learn as you go.... I made it look cute but its not practical...and yes I do believe it will never be" finished" in the sense of the word . So perhaps evolving is a better word 😁👍🌿🐾👅. My dog is medium sz and he thinks the van is a bit tight ...but good thing I taught him to "back up" because he can't turn around walking past the bed and cabinet...lol. I worry about using the single burner like you have inside. How close is yours to the ceiling of your van?

I slept in the car on a platform made of plywood. I was able to use my CPap with my new Bluetti EB70. Which I more than payed for with motel savings on this first trip. I will be doing more.

Thank you Dee. It’s like you read my mind, I’m doing and have done everything you discussed. I’ve watch ‘Creativity RV’ with Robin for over a year. She also helped inspire me. Many years ago I was in my PT Cruiser with my cat due to financial issues. I learned many things on my own, yet since found out that this life is doable. I’ve been challenged by friends as to my ‘why’ and I feel strong as I have not stumbled on any of their questions. I’m looking forward to getting my fan and beginning my adventures. My first thing is to take the 2nd and 3rd row seats out, get a flat floor so I can travel to get a vans worth of stuff I left behind when I moved. I’ll return from that trip to work on building a bed and take some smaller trips until the weather improves. It will also give me a feel for the van and what I need for it. Yes, I do have my Amazon list, yet may not need everything. One step at a time. Next January I will be joining the ‘ladies’ at WRTR and RTR. I’m really looking forward to meeting face to face with you, Bunny, Dawn and Riley. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Hopefully I too can share to help others. 🙏🏼 Namaste my friend 😊✌🏼😎👍🏼

It’s exciting to hear that you are getting ready! Sounds like you’ve got a well thought out plan. Hahahah yes, the list-I still have things I put on there and wait to see if it is something I really need or just thought was cool😜 look forward to meeting you too! Thanks for all your encouraging words.🐞🚗💃🏻

Love this video and I love your set up. I wonder if you think you’d be happy with what you have if it were your full-time home, or if you’d want something more? I went to Ford today, looking for something like yours, nothing available to even test drive! I retire in two years…

Yes, I believe I will be happy with it. Vans have been in short supply. I got mine before it was popular 😜 Keep looking, the right one will come!!!

Hi, your videos are helpful. We live in IL. We did a semi self converted Campervan. We want to do something’s to it this year. One being installing a generator so to run the air conditioner. The quote we got from a suburb outside of Chicago was astronomical. Do you have any references of places I can call to get some more quotes. It’s exciting to see a fellow Illinoian doing similar things. 😀

I love your channel! 🤓 Very inspiring. I have a question and I‘m not sure if it‘s a silly one. Do you live 100% in your van or just parttime for travelling-adventures? I remember seing one of your videos, where you said you had to go home to do an intensive cleaning of the interior.
@LadyBugout3 жыл бұрын
I still have a house. I am part time in both. It just depends what else is going on in family life☺️

@@LadyBugout Ahhh okay, thanks! It‘s still a big adventure and broadens one‘s horizons in life for sure. I‘m from the city & when I joined the military many moons ago, I met lots of hunters. Of course I never considered it myself, but decided it would be a good chance to learn a survival-skill. In the end, I never killed any animal, just learned more or less about camping in the forest and spotting signs of deer and elk. I was relieved not to have to actually kill one, mission aborted. Fact is, I enjoy meat, fish, poutry from time to time... but I don‘t have the stomach to actually take them down myself. In a life & death situation, I guess I could. So that‘s my adventure story and also opened my eyes in many ways, about how hard it must have been to live off the land, hunt for your meat, etc. way back when there was no other way. You‘ve succeeded in living „off-grid“ and that‘s something not every person could accomplish. Good Luck & Happy travels!

@@LadyBugout I’m so glad you said that as some won’t talk about it. It’s a big part of planning for vanlife as I am doing now. I’m gonna rent out when I’m on the road and come back when I need the solid ground again.
@glamperjan3 жыл бұрын
I never glamorized camping. You look for water, propane, trash and a place for the night. It is an art that is learned from research and learn to save your money. You meet the best people on the road. They have nothing to hide and have all kinds of reasons for living this lifestyle. I don't for the peace and serenity.
