I work in law enforcement. Before you go somewhere, research the area. There are crime stats you can research for some areas. It will show how many crimes and what crimes were committed in that area. I bought my house using the data. The most important tip is your sixth sense. If it doesn't feel right, don't do it. I'd advise any person, especially a woman to carry a firearm. It's sad that we need to think this way but it will save your life. Great tips Dee.

I called the police department yesterday to ask about what protection was available and legal. I have pepper spray but that could backfire so I don't completely trust it on a person. I'm smart enough to stay away from bears. 😊 Someone mentioned a proper ball gun but it doesn't sound legal. I have thought about a handgun but tbh the first time I shot a 9mm I never wanted to do it again because it was too easy, I felt, you know? I didn't want that much responsibility in my hand. I never want to take a life but if I had to, to keep myself from dying, I would do what I had to. I had to leave a voicemail for the shift supervisor so I'm hoping to hear back Monday. I start my solo adventures tomorrow night. 😊

Let them run a Background check, knowing who you are may sidestep that knock. Ask the police where you can park, they will alert other Cops if they hear about you. I used to work at a club close very to home and finish work late at night. I used to walk home and hold my keys with a key in between each finger, hanging out near my knuckles. A female, no matter how strong, could cause pain to a strong man with one strike to give you enough time to run and escape. I have lived through many life-threatening situations, and each time, i never woke up in the morning, expecting that my day would end that way. Always be prepared as you never know and listen to your gut instinct. Your natural alarm system. ❤

Interesting you mention lay on the horn this just happened to me and that is what I did. I was parked in a parking lot with a lot of other RVs but we were all spread out. This was a Harvest Host which was a museum and offered electric so I was plugged in. About 4 am I heard this banging so I got up and looked outside and this pick up truck was parked at an angle facing me with its headlights on. I kept hearing the banging so all these thoughts are going through my mind. I would have taken off but I was plugged in. If need be I would just pull away and risk the damage but I wanted to make sure I was in danger before I damaged my van. So I decided to honk and see if they left, etc. They still sat there so I laid on the horn several times. Then they shut their lights off. It ended up being a group of like 20 men putting red cones out for a police practice. I am like at 4 am and why the heck would they park next to me at an angle. It was not like they were even in a parking spot. I am not sure if these were actual police officers or maybe they were recruits, but they should have had common sense than to park pointing at someones van/rv and leaving their lights on at 4 am.
@LadyBugout3 ай бұрын

This was a very good video and needs to be reiterated often. People tend to drop their guard after periods of no incidences. Also, in hiking three long blasts of a whistle signifies distress. So three long blasts of your car horn tells others yo need help. Your gut feeling is the the strong point of situational awareness. Great video, Dee!

I was visited, in an RV, one night. I yelled and the guy left (just a thief) but still… It left a bad feeling for a long time. I feel safer in my mini van as when I’m inside, if I feel it’s a good idea to add some protection : it’s easier to make the entry more difficult. Inside, I strap the left front door’s handle to the left back sliding door’s handle. I do the same on the right. And I strap the trunk’s door handle to one of the car attachement point inside.

I rely heavily on my dogs, they can hear, smell and see better than me, they’re trained to protect me and while little dogs are convenient because of size they don’t do much to deter bad people, even at camp and even though they’re on tie outs like you’re supposed to do, a growling 70 lbs pit bull will make someone think twice, if they think they can handle one, surprise surprise, I have 2 while I get something to defend us. That being said your tips about being aware of glass, needless and other things are definitely a must and great advice in conjunction with my dogs. Thanks for the video.

Very good stuff! Happy your on top of these points. Mostly people need to be more aware of their surroundings, stay off the phone just like you pointed out.Thanks for sharing these most important points. ….. i use my air horn for animals and my bear spray for 2legged animals!

Are you having any trouble at campgrounds with Camp hosts. They tend to be quite nosy I was disturbed by taking a nap at 3:00 in the afternoon and this morning I left the site for breakfast and I came back and someone had been at my picnic table and left rocks on it right next to my tent

I don’t stay at campgrounds that often. When I do, I haven’t had issues. Sorry to hear you have 😕

Good tips! It’s always easier to avoid trouble, then have to deal with it.
