Why do i weep everytime i listen to Van? I am in my 70's now. I have listened to 100's of generas of music. I can't think of anyone with the depth or width of career that can surpass him. I think of guys like Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Dylan, and groups like the Stones....long long careers...excellent musicians and writers....but i will forever choose Van as my favorite. So blessed to live in his era. It is not just his poetry or the notes that fall upon my ears....his mastery of mixing sounds that create just the right moods....his philosophy of the Irish soul...our propensity to wallow in the melancholy....ai ya...

The 12 straight studio albums that began with “Wavelength” (1979) and concluded with “Hymns to the Silence” (1991), were an incomparable run of what is, in my opinion, the most exquisite, moving, spiritually charged music ever made - certainly matchless in the history of popular music. I experienced this music profoundly, and it literally changed my life. I am forever grateful for those records, for Van Morrison, and for the Muse that captured his soul throughout that era.

I think his 1980s work is very underrated. Constant run of great albums, musical brilliance and inspiration, from 'Into the Music' (1979) through to 'Poetic Champions Compose' (1987). As strong as his amazing albums from 'Astral Weeks' (1968) to 'Veedon Fleece' (1974).

I was living on a 150 ft. steel hulled sailing vessel in 1973, called the Invader, docked outside The Rum Runner Restaurant in San Pedro, California, an area of mothballed Navy Vessels, dirty rusting boats, and an adjacent huge parking lot with abandoned Winnebagos and some with people living in them. ( "If this van's a rocking' , don't bother knocking."). I was a carpenter refurbishing a legendary boat that once held the TransPac record for fastest time from Los Angeles , California to Hawaii...It was a Saturday night, and I went on top of the wheelhouse to listen and watch a music show on a 13 " black and white TV. Van Morrison was on, and played one hell of a set...Then he left, and came back for an encore. Almost immediately, the TV began vibrating, and the picture was vibrating and shaking, and Van was singing, and I was wondering what the hell was going on.? An earthquake, some natural disaster, what ? Then I realized....Van had raised the vibration of the program to a level where everyone, including the musicians and TV technicians had gone into a musical trance of the level beyond the third dimension. Will never forget that time...A warm summer night...

Tastes vary, but i will argue this is the best music video ever. A group of great musicians playing a great song, and not a wasted, or superfluous note in the entire song. Even the tiny little few seconds of the triangle is given the space that it deserves. No attention seeking, just artists making art.

I just love the groove. It's like you almost expect the blues Brothers to come flying out when the horn section gets cooking.

I remember hearing this on a juke box in Rota Spain first Med Cruise. I kept playing this over and over. I walked an Irish bar maid home to her flat when the bar closed. Hard to believe that was 40 years ago. Thanks for the memories who posted this.

I have been listening to Van since the 1960's. I love everything about him except his sour disposition.

I love so much of his music but I agree, he always seems dour and pissed off at something. Still touring to his credit. Now he is officially the curmudgeon he was even when he was young. Still love him, even though he doesn't want to hear it!

I think he is exactly who is… he can’t be any other way. The exception being his performance of Caravan in The Last Waltz. VM is the definition of the tortured genius artist. We are lucky to have his music 🍀

Nobody puts a killer band together like Van... this is why he also has the best concerts. Ps. He can’t put together decent clothing but that’s beside the point.

Lol, you got it. How is it possible to have such immaculate feeling for music and such a horrible taste in clothing.

@@georgeivanmorrison6769 i only discovered your music 30 years or so ago. Just had a birthday on sept. 2nd~66... If i hadnt found your songs and music i would not have been able to remember my earliest years. Now ive been analyzing what your songs mean to me. Id like to find out if its really you, but first i guess i need to prove to You, by what i have been able to remember, with the help of your songs, that its really me. Only we know what we shared in the earliest years, so ill tell you a few things only we could possibly know. I have an identifying mark, a secret sign. The last time we were together, You said to me, "Come see me all saints day!" You gave me a squishy rubber indian man doll with a biglong nose holding a rubber tomahawk, i considered then at my very young age, possible nicknames, such as madam George, boffyflow, and a few others, you are aware og. Out of great respect and consideration for You, i need to reconnect and talk with you in person again, i have been putting little bits of info under yourmusic videos off and on now from place to place so you may know im out here, and hoping we will walk and talk together in person, quietly again one day sooner than later. I hope you arent a van morrison imposter. I can prove its really me, when i know its really you.(double bind)?
