Mike, from a former Paratrooper/Pathfinder (33 years service), I'd like to say awesome effort at putting this series together. It tells the story in layman's terms, explaining the reasons behind the selection process, and from personal points of view. A good mate's son is in this platoon, great to see him and his muckers getting put through their paces. Hopefully this will dispel the myth that "they have it easy nowadays" too. Far better than anything the MOD has done in terms of recruiting videos for a long, long time. In fact, ever. Well done.

As a VERY old (72) U.K. firefighter,(22years )who has had a life long interest in all things military, Military History, Military ethics, Military procedures, i watch these videos, with fond affection. Thank you, Mike Thwaite.I was (back in the day...about 1985!), the top scoring (whatever that means) fireman in the U.K. Whoopee doo. To bring my feet back down to earth, my Son, Sean Gregson, joined the Paras, at barely 17, and i stood by, (thinking it would "make a man of him") and encouraged him. He was MASSIVE! ( for his age) i have never been above, 166 1bs,... yet, i excelled at everything i did. He lasted, three months, then hung himself. We were not ALL meant to be hero's, he didn't have the upbringing, that i had. I watch these videos, and whilst being informed, of what was being asked, i feel sad. A lamb, to Slaughter. My fault. NOT! the Paras god bless you all, and take care.

My sincere and heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your son,so sad and so tragic. As you state we are not all cut out for that type of life,few are!. I'm 53 now and from the age of 17 I wanted to become a paratrooper,part of me still does lol, but my life took a different path but ultimately I knew I couldn't, it wasn't a lack of drive or confidence it was just being honest with myself.
@stuartdavies102 жыл бұрын
As a footnote, some years later on a whim (don't do it on a whim) I applied to 4 para but was scuppered by circumstances beyond my control, I took this as probably for the best as "someone " was trying to tell me something, in later life I've found my "airborne fix" by doing the virtual paras 10 and supporting the "support our paras" charity,this means a lot to me to support them.
