Fantastic work all around. The new format is spot on! Equally impressive is the production approach to the coverage including this first episode. Very much appreciating the tone of production. The music was spot on ( no annoying generic rock music or irrelevant punk rock that no one cares about), the narrator voice was calm and informative (no annoying high pitch stereotypical surfer bro voice), the panel was well represented and informative ( only thing missing is someone who isn’t from Hawaii to offer their prospective), the whole tone of the presentation was mature and very well detailed and informative. I only wish more surf coverage was like this and not the outdated surf production we are still Constantly being fed that nowhere represents surfings broad and divergent community. Well done gang! You’re setting the tone. Let’s hope people take notice and follow your lead.

Maybe this is how this event shouldve always been. The event should have always been completing catered to make best odds for a Hawaiian winner. The embarrassment and frustration locals have felt for decades not being able to have a Hawaiian winner every year has finally come to this. Making half, most, 80%? of competitors all Hawaiian finally gives them a chance to always have a Hawaiian winner. However, if a non-Hawaiin wins either mens or womans it would be really sad no?

Why does it matter if a Hawaiian wins? Shouldn't the best surfer win regardless of where they're from?They have comps there for locals only all the time.. Da Hui backdoor shootout. Regional comps, junior comps, etc.. This is called the Pipe Masters.

There’s been plenty of Hawaiian winners over the years!! AI(4 times)Bruce, Jamie O, JJF, Derek Ho, Johnny boy, etc etc etc Gerry, Hakman, Rory Russell. I’ve probably missed a few🤷‍♂️ But fair to say Hawaiians have won the event about half the time in total! Mona Jones Wong last year.. It’s supposed to be the best of the best. Not just the best Hawaiian.. 🤙🏻

I believe Hawaiians would like to win the event each year so this year gives them a great chance right, when most competitors are hawaiian.
