Today I am reviewing a recent shipment of Vegtan leather called Vaqueta from Montana Leather. The leather is available in cut panels and full sides. The leather is in two thicknesses 3.5 - 5 ounce and 8 - 9 ounces. This is a leather dyed at the tannery. I will be completing a series of projects that Montana Leather will be using as a display in their store. Here is a link to find the leather on from today’s video.

The first thing that I did was to create a small tooling sample to see how well it cased and tooled. I did not see any difference in how it cased when compared to natural Vegtan leather. The cutting and tooling seemed the same as regular Vegtan leather as well.
The edges burnished well and the burnish of the tooling was nice.
Please let me know what your thoughts are to using leather dyed at the tannery.

Hey Wayne! I hope you are doing well. Sometimes we only see things from our perspective. I see people that ask about how to dye leather in their apartment or other more enclosed spaces. I think this leather might be a great option for crafters in some situations.

Robert, your turning into quite a mover and shaker...Must be really bored or you found a new adventure. By the way, I like the long in-depth videos vice the shorts.... (for what's it worth) Take care and thank you.

Well thanks for the comment. I try to produce a blend of longer step by step videos with shorter what’s happening videos and shorts of processes. I appreciate you following along.

cant wait to see what you make with this leather. is the 3.5-5oz thin enough to use for bags or dopp kits? or is it too firm for that?

Wow! The one you tooled doesn't need any antiquing on it at all! Why would that be?

The leather has a good tooling burnish. Sure makes a good definition of color. Just like a natural leather tools dark.
