It can be favourite for other states too but for most of the part of Maharashtra its daily meal day and night, So Varan Bhat is our staple meal. It cooks without onion and garlic is optional but many prefer to add garlic too…for Varan only Turdal, Mugdal(optional), Hing, Turmeric powder, Tup(ghee),Salt required.

Why you want lemon in everything.. Mi pn marathi ch aahe.. pn aamhi aaj parynt.. Varan bhaan kadhi ch Limbu takun khalla nhi.. Varan bhaat saadha ch khub chaan laagto.. No need to add extra drops of Leman juice or anything 👍🏻

Nahi khup chan lagta he combination. He goda varan aahe. Aamchya kade hi specially he upvasachya divshi ratri je jewan banta tewha banavtat. Aanit yavar tup aani limbu he combo khup tasty lagta. Kadhi try karun badha. Fodnicha varan asel tyat limbu naahi takat but goda varan asel tar khup chan lagta.

Even tadka isn't necessary. Salt and a grape size piece of jaggery. Simmer till it dissolves.

The varan that I make is even simpler than this version! Turmeric and hing along with tur daal in the pressure cooker, ABSOLUTELY NO TADKA, add some jaggery and salt while blending the daal. Serve with sajuk tup and squeeze some lemon. It just cannot feel complete even if one ingredient is left behind or if one step is missed 😅 the name of this dish itself is "varan bhat tup limbu" in our household 😂
