I mean, it seems pretty clearly like its a semi-tongue-in-cheek omage to all kinds of classic horror, video game and otherwise. You got Clock Tower, Silent Hill, The Thing, The Ring/Grudge, Persona, Majora's Mask, even really old stuff like vengeful forest spirits and killer mermaids. Plus a couple other I can't quite put my finger on. There's also something of an SCP Foundation vibe overall. I feel like a decent amount of thought was put into all of them, and I'd also say they were mostly presented WITHOUT jumpscares. If this game had too much of anything, it was "run away from the enemy until they stop chasing you," not jumpscares. The only things you can really call jumpscares are the wooden popups, which are clearly a joke, and that one room you end up in sometimes that loops over and over and sometimes that black shadow man figure jumps at you. Which is admittedly probably one of the worst rooms since when you can get out of it seems kinda random and it gets old quick. Also I guess some of the death "scare" screens could be considered jump scares? But those are preceded by you getting caught or losing all your health though, so its not like they come out of nowhere. So yeah, not really about jumpscares.

It might show you a different side of the game since Vinny really gets into it unlike Joel. I'd explain the hook but it would just be better if you saw the game through the eyes of someone who goes in not caring and ends up finishing the game and even playing the DLC because of how much he enjoyed it. If you rather not watch Vinny's 5+ hours of a playthrough of Spooky's House of Jumpscares which you've already seen Joel beat then I don't think I can change your opinion through words that it's better than it looks.

I think it might just be Joel instinctively avoiding immersing himself into the environment too much, like he said, he's more terrified of the suspense than the actual horror/enemies, so blazing through the game is the least scary way to go through the game for him, whether he intended to do it as such or subconsciously

Rather than parody it's more like a celebration of the horror game genre - it's packed full of references to other horror games, from Resident Evil to Silent Hill to Amnesia to Clocktower (and various creepypastas too). I don't have any clear memories if that happened to me when i played the game (the free version). And I guess it's normal for let's players to miss a lot of things that the viewers who know about the game want them to see or they (the audience) sees it but not the let's players. And he missed the next button on the CAT-DOS twice! And he went two very wrong turns while Specimen 12 was chasing him! Also, somehow he manages to get away from the specimen's pretty well by just running and not using the required methods to avoid getting killed by them. And since he hasn't read a lot of notes throughout the game he hasn't encountered the "romantic skeleton" in the elevator yet. Ugh. And Joel who likes skeletons.

Probably because I have a poor constitution for horror games and can barely stand vague spookiness. I mean, this game is probably the most terrifying thing I've ever experienced, not gonna lie. Any horror game that I've heard people claim to be the demonic epitome of terror has never really scared me, except for this one. I don't know why, but it's the combination of the low-level graphics and the deafening silence between monsters that gets me. Plus, there's the fact that I know Specimen 9 (the moving red head) can technically show up at ANY TIME if you wait too long. HOWEVER, I do have this game to thank for introducing me to Over the Garden Wall, as Specimen 8 (the deer god) in this game is inspired by the character in it called "The Beast."

My main issue with this game is that most enemies can be avoided by just keeping on walking.(Not includding Happy Masksalesman)

The DLCs and Endless Mode got new monsters that most aren't avoided just by running. Examples: Flying doll that can't be looked at or else it will move towards you and attack you (it doesn't spawn behind you), Lisa, who teleports after attacking you and may or may not attack based in your actions, White Face shows up at random spots but has a signal when he's getting near you, Bekka, who appears in the exit door of big rooms after you get near and then disappears after a short time and goes back behind, and some other more.
