What do you need for a variable-power scope on your hunting rifle? Do you need a 5-25x first-focal-plane scope for hunting deer or elk in the west? NO. I explain the various features of modern rifle scopes and the best attributes for your use.

While I no longer hunt, I do, do some long distance shooting (out to 1350 yards/3/4 of a mile), with my 6.5 Creedmoor. The ONE thing I want to do, is find a MilDot scope (instead of MOA). I'm used to using 'mils', a lot more than MOA. Good video & nfo!

Being former military, I found the switch to a MILRAD scope pretty easy. 1 mil is 3.6 inches at 100 yards, rounding off. The scope is divided into 1/10ths of a mil or approximately 1 centimeter per click at 100 yards. I think the MILRAD system makes for easier math out to distance, but that's just me. If you're limiting your shots to 500 yards, either works. I did notice on my 30-06 that when I zero at 100 yards in Rock Springs Wyoming that visiting friends in NE Oklahoma that I hit just about an inch low with the same ammo so up 3 clicks and I'm good. I like having adjustable parallax on my scopes but if the ranges are relatively short its of little consequence. For a good rifle I figure the scope should cost at least as much as the rifle itself. I can't hit what I can't see.

My hunting guns are all in 5 cartridges not counting the AR that bounces around the farm in my truck or ATV are .22-250, .243 Win, .280 Rem, 7mm/08 and .300 H&H mag. I have 2 in .243. I have a 6x24 on my .22-250, and beyond 15x I don't care for it. I have a Rem Varmint in .243 that has a 4-12 and I like it. I have a Rem Mountain in .280 with a 2-7. My Rem 700 Classic .300 H&H wears a 3-9. My Rem. 788 .243 wears a 2-7, and my Rem 788 7mm/08 has a 3-9. The 2x7 is by far my favorite. I have a few others but they just mostly occupy space in safes. I gotten all my Whitetails in Kentucky, an elk in Colorado back when non-residents could get a tag, one antelope in Wyoming, and one antelope in New Mexico.

My first camera back in "73" was a Minolta SRT100. After joining the Navy I eventually upgraded to the Minolta SRT102. I have been a little disappointed with my latest Leupold Mark 3HD TMR purchases because of poor reticle performance and then finding out the windage knobs are made out of plastic!

Most of my hunting rifles still have a 4X or 6X. The most powerful is a 3-9x40.

8 or 10 fixed power. With good elevation adjustment and reticle for windage would be all I need.. still haven't found anyone making the thing i really want. Might be nice to have one with the rangefinder in it. But I don't think I need variable power. I'm not sure, honestly once I set the thing, it doesn't move.. because it does not need to

Same here. I have a couple 4-12s and they are too much. 9 or 10x on the top end is more than enough. I really like the 2-7s.

Red Flag Fairburn. Never forget this guy would load you in a train car if the Supreme Court said it was legal.

@ronalddunne3413 how so? Let's get down to brass tacks. Fairburn is Law Enforcement. He said that anything the Supreme Court has not ruled as unconstitutional is, therefore, constitutional. He said he would uphold and enforce the laws of the state. He took an OATH AND SWORE TO DO SO! Unless he's an oathbreaker, he would absolutely unequivocally load your butt and mine in a train car if he got the order to do so, so long as the Supreme Court hadn't declared it unconstitutional. Red Flag Fairburn would absolutely kick down your door down at 3am and take your guns by force, up to and including deadly force. He's a tyrant and is the exact type of traitor we were warned about. He literally told you what he is and what he believes. Why do you refuse to believe him?

Wow, that's a lot to read into my posting, especially since you got the jist all wrong. I oppose red flag laws which do not include due process PRIOR to weapon seizure.

@Watchdog_McCoy_5.7x28 5 сағат бұрын
@richardfairburn7962 you said it, so there's nothing I'm "reading in to." It's literally what you said, so either you lied then, or you're lying now. You literally said that if the SC hasn't ruled something unconstitutional, it is constitutional up until they rule it unconstitutional. You swore to uphold the constitution and swore to enforce the laws of the state. That's an impossible task, as there are plenty of laws that violate the constitution. You claim to oppose red flags, but you would absolutely enforce them when told to do so, as you swore an oath and you aren't an oathbreaker, right? So what do you do in such situations? You justify the paradox by playing semantics, casting aside morals and ethics in the process. You are an order follower, a minion, a mindless drone, a lemming, just another cog in the wheel of injustice and tyranny... You've spent your entire career doing what you were told and never considering the moral or ethical conundrums, or ignoring them if you ever did consider it... You deflect by saying, "I'm enforcing the law", regardless of whether the law is constitutional or not, so long as 9 people in costumes decree it to be, or they simply refuse to opine. You are likely too far gone in your thinking, too bullheaded, too stubborn, too prideful, and to brainwashed to ever even consider the possibility that you can be wrong. The 2nd amendment literally says, "shall NOT be infringed." It's doesn't get any clearer. All gun laws are unconstitutional, period, and you still say that the 2nd amendment isn't unlimited and that regulations limiting gun ownership and where those guns can be carried is constitutional. You can't help yourself as the programming has been done over decades and has been reinforced in your mind over and over by the system you were a part of. You made hours of video voicing your thoughts and views. I didn't "read into anything." You said it. You had the right to remain silent, and you chose not to, so don't act like you didn't say these things. I have the receipts. When someone tells me who they are, I believe them the first time. You use mental gymnastics, semantics, and downright lies to justify what you said, and to pretend that we the viewers simply misunderstood or took something out of context, or "read in to something"... Law enforcement are trained to lie, and that's the one thing they excel at more than any other. I really enjoyed your previous content, but you really exposed who you are with these last couple of videos. You're an old man, set in your ways. You can't teach an old dog new tricks, and I don't expect you to have an epiphany just because I wrote a rant in the comments section of a KZbin video, but miracles do happen from time to time. Maybe a plate of crow and some humble pie could help? I'm not anti law enforcement. I'm anti corruption, and this system we have is corrupt to the very core. I have several friends that are former law enforcement, and the reason I'm friends with them is because they saw the corruption, saw they were a part of it, got out of it, called it out, apologized, and refused to be involved in it. I'm a constitutional conservative who believes that our rights are inalienable, and not debatable. I will never apologize for calling out tyranny. You might not realize your views are tyrannical, so I implore you to reflect and think deeply. Freedom is dangerous, and the only thing that is more dangerous is not having it.
