I agree with the opinions expressed! I never pushed any of my stuff on my wife, but one day she came home after dark leaving the Mall's parking structure and had a reason to feel unsafe and vulnerable. Just about blew me away when she said she might like to consider some protection. Okay, so my first question for her was; what do you want, a revolver of an automatic. Without hesitation, she fixated on the word and assumed it meant easy and trouble free: AUTOMATIC! So, I went and got one of each and laid them on the kitchen table. I had a strategy, picking up the auto, showed her how to load the magazine, insert it in the gun and rack the slide, and had her do it herself. She was very intent, and focused, and I could tell that this stuff was a little more than she expected. So then I picked up what I had, which was a Ruger 357 that belonged to my dad and showed her how to open the cylinder, insert cartridges, close it and then she was ready to go. Instant change of opinion! She definitely wanted a revolver, so I bought her a nice S&W Lady Smith 38 Special. She took a class, taught by her brother, a sheriff Deputy and proudly showed me her target, upon graduation. She actually never fired it again, but always carried it in her purse. Interestingly, when she died, my daughter, and just as innocent as her mother; she asked me for her mom's gun! And, history repeated itself, we went to the range. But after, the difference is, she keeps in in her nightstand. In both cases, a dose of confidence.

At the time it was made itsblegendary... but now you have 40 sw that can perform at near identical energy in smaller sized guns and 10mm that exceeds it in energy and with more capacity so its honestly kind of lame know besides subsonic use and maybe competition power factor scoring

In the 70's I was a police officer in Canada. Our issue was a SW mod 10 38 special, we were first issued 158 grain round nose ammo. After finding out the ammo just left grey streaks on windshields they went to the 158 plus P ammo you mentioned. We were issued a whopping 12 rounds of ammo and were trained to make the shots count. We were forbidden to carry any ammo other than issued, including you buying the same as issued. I have had carry permits in Canada and they are open carry only for bear defence. I use an HK 45 Tactical and carry two spare 10 round mags. My back up is a S&W 629 in 44 mag. Regrettably our moron Prime Minister has created havoc with gun bans now. I have shattered a quartz stone about 16 inches diameter at 40 yards, it is a powerful caliber.

6:45 I’m glad you mentioned the 357 Sig; I’m a fan and like it for penetration. The 40 and 45 are great. I like accuracy, penetration and expansion. Velocity helps with that expansion, but the 45 will never get smaller.

The only thing a 380 can't really do for self-defense is penetrate barriers like car windows and car doors, it will go through but it's completely ineffective once it does. A good load in 380 is very effective. I use the Second Amendment ammo cuz those are traveling about 1,000 fps out of a short barrel gun. I also use 50 gr Civil Defense staggered with 100gr hardcast flat nose in case I'm dealing with a car window or something minor, I'll still have a little chance of a few of them going through. I agree 380 is not good for the military or law enforcement officer but for a civilian I think it's fine for a concealed carry.

GREAT PRESENTATION, AS USUAL. JOHN FARNAM, IIRC, HAS SAID THAT YOU WILL DO ABOUT AS WELL IN YOUR NEXT GUNFIGHT AS YOUR WORST DAY AT THE RANGE. IF THIS IS NOT A GOOD INCENTIVE TO PRACTICE, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS. AS CLINT SMITH SAYS, IT’S ONLY YOUR LIFE ON THE LINE. WHAT IS IT WORTH TO YOU ?

DO NOT FORGET THE SKS. WHILE SUITABLE AMMO FOR THAT PLATFORM IS SKETCHY, IT WILL STILL KILL, NO PROBLEM. THE TEN SHOT INTERNAL MAGAZINE USUALLY MAKES IT LESS DESIRABLE TO BAN THAN ANY EVIL BLACK RIFLES. THERE ARE A FEWV GENUINE SEMI AUTO HUNTING RIFLES OUT THERE, SOME WHICH HAVE EXTENDED MAGAZINES. WHILE NOT MIL-SPEC, THEY COME IN A NUMBER OF POTENT CALIBERS. GREAT VIDEO, AS USUAL. THANKS.

I'm glad you hit on the fallacy of temporary cavities in gel. I see a lot of guntubers focusing way too much on the appearance of the temporary cavity without understand how much easier it is to tear gel compared to actual tissue. Especially with handgun loads.

WISH I STILL HAD IT BUT IT GOT AWAY. AS FOR THE UTILITY OF THESE BIG N FRAMES, THEY MAKE WONDERFUL HOUSE GUNS, SINCE YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PACK THEM. BACK IN THE DAY I USED TO CARRY A 1911 OUT OF THE HOUSE AND KEEP ONE OF THE N’S INSIDE THE HOUSE. THIS WAS BEFORE THE WONDER-NINE REVOLUTION. I NEVER FELT UNDER GUNNED.

INTERESTINGLY, HERE IN AZ, WE HAVE BOTH BRANDISHING AND DEFENSIVE DISPLAY STATUTES. WHICH BRINGS TO MIND A TOPIC I SEE ONLY SLIGHTLY ADDRESSED: STATE LAW. ALMOST EVERY ATTY. AND TRAINER WILL TELL YOU TO KNOW THE LAWS OF YOUR STATE REGARDING CARRY, USE OF FORCE, ETC. AND THIS IS GOOD AS FAR RAS IT GOES. YOU NOT ONLY HAVE TO READ BLACK LETTERS LAW BUT CASE LAW AND, IF THEY’RE AVAILABLE, JURY INSTRUCTIONS. THE BRANDISHING TOPIC CAN BE TRICKY. AS FOR ROUND IN THE CHAMBER, TO ME IT’S A NO BRAINER. ALWAYS. THIS BRINGS UP ANOTHER TOPIC THAT YOU MAY WANT TO ADDRESS. LOCAL, FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD, CUSTOM. I READ AYOOB A GOOD DEAL, MAINLY BECAUSE HE MAKES SENSE. HE ADVOCATES MAKING A BRIEF STATEMENT THEN INVOKING YOUR RIGHTS. AT LEAST TWO LOCAL ATTYS., MARK VICTOR AND TIM FORSHEY, DO JUST THE OPPOSITE. I SUSPECT, IN MR. AYOOB’S CASE, HE HAS LIVED IN A PART OF THE COUNTRY WHERE HIS METHODS ARE PERHAPS THE NORM. OF COURSE, HE, LIKE YOU, IS A FORMER LEO. I DO BELIEVE YOU BOTH WOULD BE TREATED DIFFERENTLY, ALL ELSE BEING EQUAL, DUE TO THAT STATUS. MOST OF US DO NOT HAVE THAT CARD TO PLAY, SO TO SPEAK. LOCAL LEGAL CLIMATES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN INTERESTING TO ME, BECAUSE ONE SIZE RARELY FITS ALL. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS CHANNEL OF YOURS, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

From what I could find online, the S&W K-frame .357 Magnum revolver was first sold in 1955. Different sources call it a .357 Combat Magnum or the .357 Combat Masterpiece. It was developed at the request of the famous Border Patrol marksman Bill Jordan. In 1957 S&W started using model numbers instead of model names and the K-frame .357 revolver became the Model 19. If your revolver is a K-frame, (cylinder diameter about 1.455 inches) and is marked .357 Magnum on the barrel, it could be a 1955-1957 pre-Model 19. A serial number check by S&W would provide proof.

A policeman carrying 85 rounds of ammunition isn't really a logical phenomenon. It's a psychiatric issue. About 3/4 of police officers never fire a round in the course of their duties in an entire career. I'm sure the guy can probably get some help from a qualified professional. Or maybe a urologist...

Agree when it comes to carry ammo go with the factory made ammo. Handloads are for training, maybe hunting, but when it comes to shooting something on two legs its better to spend the extra money.

Just because something newer and better comes out does not mean the old stops working. The 38 special was released in 1898, the 9mm just 3 years later in 1901 and we all know the 9mm is the most popular pistol round the world over being used by civilians, police, and militaries of the world, just like the 38 special before it. I think it important to stress that many people mistake the 38 special for the 38 long colt which came before it and having abysmal stopping power in the boar wars. The 38 special, like the 9mm and 22 lr were considered antiquated and on their way out by some, but they have all been around for well over 100 years and i predict they will be around for another 100.

I knew about the statistic that you mentioned about the larger calibers only requiring an average of three shots per gun fight encounter, so I took your premise a step further. For home defense, I have a .45 Colt revolver with rounds that have about 400 ft.lbs. terminal energy with a 250 gr. bullet - I sleep well.
@organicmaterialsciencecorp61154 күн бұрын
Very good video sir. I carry a 185 grain.45 acp + p daily it's energy is 592 ft.lbs. the bullet is a xtp. A 9mm is 124 gr. At about 367 ft. Lbs. Of energy, so this is one reason i carry the .45 acp it's really superior and because i is shoot it well and im not under gunned. I like 9 mm but for me i don't see the advantages with it. Shot placement, accuracy, a bonded bullet that yields 12 inches of penetration and expansion is just whats needed for self defense in my opinion. The old .45 acp is very proven to the whole world. I have a collection of 48 so far. God Bless America and our Freedom.
