Variations when celebrating the Traditional Latin Mass

Explanation of some of the most common variations that can occur when celebrating the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite. What to do during Mass if consecrating/reposing the Blessed Sacrament in a ciborium. What to do if there is/is not a Creed, Gloria, Homily. If there is no server for Mass, etc.

The NOM is rewarding. However, I feel the Eucharist is the most important part and that should be held in the most traditional Latin form.

This Mass form comes from 1570, so it is not ancient. The Novus Ordo, with its defects, Restores some ancient rities, such as the Three biblical readings, the proclamation after the consecration, the "kiss" of peace, and communion in both kinds.

@@FRAGIORGIO1 The 1570 Missal only oficialized the Mass, which Had little, but existing variations from place to place. This Mass is at least 1000 years old. While in some places, like Milan, there were 3 readings, most places (including Rome) only had 2. That's why there are only 2 readings in feria days at the ordinary form of the Mass. Though the acclamation after the consecratipn was technically restored, It is important to remember that the singing of the benedictus after the consacration can be seen as an "aclamation". The sign of peace was never lost, just that it only happens at solemn high Mass whithin the people serving at the altar. And while Communion under both kinds is the rule, the General instruction of the Roman Missal limits it to some special occasions. It wasn't so much of a restablishement, but of emphasicing more on certain things that werent emphasize before.

--You mention officializing the mass in 1570, but it was Standardizing what had been variable throughout the West, though in a basic pattern. About readings, there were three books for reading of Prophet, Apostle, and Gospel. I am mystified by your reference to singing the Benedictus after the consecration, but in what period and place? The much restricted Sign of Peace you mention was a greatly restricted use that was not General as now. Communion under both kinds was prohibited for several centuries, so that cannot be explained away as a question of "emphasis". What was your point in your contentions?

@@FRAGIORGIO1 That, although many of these actions in the Mass were uncommon, they existed, and technically weren't restored. And you're correct about Communion under both kinds being prohibited, I just wanted to say that the rubrics (not the practice) of the ordinary form only permits it in special occasions.

@@jpreyes4179 --They were certainly restored, as they were not part of the congregation's part, so except for the very rare and limited use, they were restored to Full use in the liturgy of the mass. The form of the 1570 canon is Not traditional in absolute sense, although it was a similar form to that used in general at the time but became the new Standard.

In the New Mass there is no final blessing when the priest celebrates completely alone (which should be avoided!). This shows that the New Mass is centered on the people present in the church, not considering the supernatural (all members of the Church militant, present or not, and the poor souls in purgatory).

​@@supreme87878Pope Gregory the Great was Pope from 590 to 604, almost a thousand years before the Tridentine Mass was promulgated by Pope Pius V in 1570, which was then continuously changed until the missal of 1962 was promulgated by Pope John XIII, the missal most communities celebrating the extraordinary form use.

The ciborium and it’s attendant lid must be in close proximity for the “Electricity” to work. This falls under the category of theatric drama, which only the priest can see, since his back is to the congregation.

It was a Renaissance practice just as the form of the chasuble is a Renaissance form and not the ancient more covering form of early centuries and the Middle Ages.

--I find it curious to see that some "traditional" priests use the non=traditional bass viol chasuble of the 15th-16th century as if it were ancient, which it is not, nor is it dignified as the ancient casulas and the medieval chasubles and neo-medievals are in most cases. Many abuses have come about because Vatican II recommendations have been IGnored by bishops about making sure the people know their responses in Latin even where the Popular language is used. Also, the recommendations about revering Gregorian and respecting classical forms of music along with newer forms are IGnored by the bishops and clergy. Those who accuse the bishops and Vatican II popes of Protestantizing do not have any concrete examples to offer, only blind and gratuitous emotion. After the Spirit moved the Church, Satan set in march to Attack attempts to improve the Liturgy by 1) those who started to "improvise" arbitrarily and ignore Official Council docs, and 2) the rebellious "Traditionalist" movement, on One side and the Other. NO ! They are both Rebellions that Satan has inspired to discredit the work of the Spirit among the Successors of the Apostles. They are both Anti Church movements!

This is not about the Extraordinary Form as such but about the fact that it has long been weaponised - against the Church herself - against her Sacraments, the Second Ecumenical Vatican Council, her Magisterium and her Roman Pontiffs. You know this is true. If you are Catholic, looking beyond your disappointment, you will see that this abuse could not be allowed to continue. For the good of those attached to the Extraordinary Form, for the unity of the family that is the Church, Pope Francis as a father has intervened. I may have believed what you are saying if I didn’t see pope Francis bringing a false god into the Vatican. Ponchomama or whatever the hell it is. Francis needs prayers. I am for the New Use at Mass, but our Rituals are simply human ways to convey Spiritual Reality If you don't believe, that is Your right, but I became a Catholic at 19 and am still Catholic, orthodox and progressive at the same time, at 82 years.

Belief is faith where there is no evidence or facts - once you have evidence of something (ie its a fact) then belief is not required..!! There is no evidence of a god of any kind - FACT!
