I fell in love with the Latin Mass when I finally attended a LM in 2022. Night and day difference in worship from the Novus Ordo. As a convert to Catholicism 30 years ago, I'm finally receiving the fullness of the faith. God Bless.

I enjoy praying and singing at my Novus Ordo mass but I’ve read so many comments like yours. I can’t imagine preferring the LM in a language I don’t understand although I do love learning Latin prayers. During Lent, my church sang the Holy Holy and Lamb of God in Latin which I now know. I even pray part of the Hail Mary in Latin. But the whole mass? I would love to read comments as to why people prefer the LM. There’s only small church in my city, about a 30 min drive, that has a Latin mass. It’s at 8:00am which is very early for me after working a third shift job.

@@jemsmom97 in my opinion the latin of the latin mass isn't why we prefer it because even the novus ordo all in latin it is not the same rite. the preciseness, the atmosphere. nothing can be added or taken away. its a completely different experience. i would find a solemn high mass on youtube to watch.

@@jemsmom97 It has far more to do with the theology of the TLM over the NO. It is no secret that the NO was put together by liturgists who were no experts in their field, with the help of protestants. By changing the prayers of the Mass, you change the faith. The NO was designed to encourage protestants back to the Church, by removing as much as possible that would be a stumbling block for them. In so doing, the watered down the faith, and the consequences were not the flooding into the Church of protestant converts, but the exodus of catholics out of the Church. Also, latin being a 'dead' language preserves the liturgy from issues related to how language and words change over time. Latin is not a preference but an obvious choice for any Catholic who is informed re the changes introduced at Vat2 and afterwards by so called experts who sought to destroy the Faith. The fruits of the Church of the New Advent are plain to see. Come back to the TLM, the liturgy of the vast majority of saints throughout the centuries.

@@jemsmom97I understand about the early time being difficult. As I get older, these bones don’t sleep well at night and get up rather late in the morning. We only have access to TLM once a month, on a Sunday evening, where I live. But, when I am in my home in (I don’t want to say the name of the State for fear of losing the blessing), I have access to TLM in the evening ( around supper time - so I eat early). It is a 50 minute drive but worth every second of the drive. I have access to this Mass 6 evenings a week. How blessed! I was young when the NO Mass moved into town but I always remembered the reverence of the TLM. I am slowly learning to follow my expensive (worth every cent) missal. I do know many of my prayers in Latin (there are KZbin videos to help - but, I have found that once I’ve mastered the pronunciations -thanks Dr.Taylor Marshall- praying the Rosary with Cardinal Burke on You Tube gives me the best practice. Again, you tube videos abound in following the missal, saying the prayers, etc. Once you recognize the reverence and symbolism, and tradition that is involved in the Latin Mass, there’s no turning back.

I do fully understand why His Holiness issued the motu proprio as it was meant to punish people who weaponize the Missal of 1962, specifically the SSPX. And I do sympathize with that reason since that was something that stunted my reversion to Catholicism for a good while. That being said, I don’t agree with the way His Holiness went about remedying the situation. I think it would have been much more effective if he just excommunicated the SSPX rather than issue this blanket statement. I am also grateful that he made it clear that these restrictions do not apply to the Fraternity or the Institute.

@@odonnell1218Ok but since you presume the SSPX to be schismatic (they're not), why would the Pope punish those whom won't follow him anyways? You do realize that the only people it punished are those in perfect canonical communion with Rome right? If anything it's going to drastically increase attendance and, more importantly, FUNDING to SSPX parishes.

As a protestant looking at this, I have to admit there is a dignity in this form of liturgy. I am from the Anglican faith, and we too have a very dignified form of liturgy, keeping elements of our ancient Catholic heritage, whilst maintaining our protestant theology, a middle way as it is called. So I did enjoy watching this, and maybe I will get the chance to sit and watch this form of the Roman Catholic Mass sometime. I know I could not take communion, but I assume there is no restriction on watching.

John King to sum it up as briefly and simply as I can we as Catholics believe that when a Catholic priest consecrates Eucharist it becomes the literal Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ. In order to worthily revive this you need to be in a state of Grace and in communion with the Catholic Church. This means to of not have committed a Mortal Sin and to believe and accept all of the Churches teachings. Now I'm not an expert or Theologian but this is the best answer I'm able to give with my knowledge on Church Teaching.

It wasnt traditional mass when I was young It was Christ's mass partly from the Jews and partly from Rome. God became man and He instituted the Sacraments. Jews had true worship they worshipped the Messiah in advance but, they had the Symbolic Paschal Lamb Sacrifice . The Jewish Passover prayers that Jesus attended with His Apostles on the night He was betrayed are in the Tridentine Mass. No Human can change the Sacraments instituted by Jesus Christ. The words said in the Temple are His Death Prayers. Why did the Temple fall? The Jews didn't recognize He was the Messiah and the Paschal Lamb had to go because He is the Lamb. Also they rejected Jesus Christ before Pilate when they said "We have no King but Caesar " It was drummed into Catholics at school in Ireland that the Tridentine is the Perpetual Sacrifice and can't be changed yet, most without question changed. Scripture Shortly after the Jews gain Israel the Perpetual Sacrifice will be removed and the Abomination of Desolation replaced therin then comes the end of time for the Gentiles. Jews got Israel in 1948 Vatican11 Imposters and Apostates and Hirelings 1963.

I have been looking into, and studying the Latin Mass for a few years now. I attend a Latin Low Mass about twice a month, only because that is the only one available an hour away. If given my choice I would never willingly attend an N.O. Mass over the Latin Mass again. That being said; knowing what little bit I know at this point, and having been exposed to this absolutely beautiful and reverent form, even in the Low Mass; I am at a complete loss as to how anyone could prefer the N.O. Mass over the TLM.

I have been to only one Latin High Mass. It was the first Latin Mass of any kind that I had been to, and still the only Latin High Mass. I have been to many many Low Masses, but this first experience left me stunned, inspired, excited, WAY more reverent in my approach to Our Lord; but most of all, it left me searching, studying, watching, and asking why this has been changed. Many of the answers are not a satisfactory answers, because a satisfactory answer doesn't exist, and in light of many of the Vat II documents that were supposed to shed light on this only left me very distrustful of words and legal jargon.

what is really needed I have been hearing much about the controversy regarding the Latin mass. Really! There is so much pain, suffering, child abuse & injustice in the world, yet petty bureaucrats spend their time on this made-up insignificant problem! I understand people ‘s concern about religious matters & I just listen; let them have their say, but I can no longer be silent on this. This is one big crock of crap. You think an Almighty Being is concerned about which language & customs holy men use as they prance around chanting dribble? As these old useless holy men sit around & engage in their mental masturbation meetings, people are starving for help. Get up off your ass & try helping one another. This entire fiasco is trivia. You let this occupies your time with so many urgent needs to be addressed. Shame! The upside to all this nonsensical bickering is that people can see what a farce religion is & find it easy to leave it behind. All polls show people are leaving this mythological excrement behind. To finish on a point of taking communion on the tongue. It took no longer than upon the hands formed into a throne. From what I saw, the tongue wasn't touched, the Host was placed on the tongue, so it seems sanitary; especially as they use alcho-gel! Why is Latin so important when Jesus spoke Aramaic?
@TheHypnag0g222
@TheHypnag0g222 4 жыл бұрын
@@redeemed7868 Jesus may have spoken a couple languages as he was from Nazareth so spoke probably Aramaic, but there were Romans and Greeks in the areas he traveled to as well. He probably was able to converse with them all. The main languages in the area Jesus travelled to and later the Apostles were Greek, Latin, Aramaic, some Hebrew (don't know if the language was fully extant or used mainly for scripture). Latin is a dead language so the meaning if words do not change. It is the official sacred language of the CC. It was also one of the languages on the Cross above the Lord's head. Up until recently in the history of the Church, the past few decades, the codified Mass of All Ages was always in Latin. It serves to unify, so that anywhere you go to Mass whether in your own town, province, state, country, other countries, you will know you're in the right place, a familiar & trusted place where you understand what is occurring regardless if the people sitting next to you speak a language or languages different from yours. Synagogues use Hebrew exclusively, Mosques use Arabic, Eastern Orthodox uses Greek & Latin.... so why should the RCC not use Latin? Why is the CC the only one blasted regarding this & expected to conform to something no one even asked for to begin with? Interesting fact.... RC Exorcists have reported that after using the more recent translation/form, they are returning back to the Latin Rite because it is indeed more potent. Reportedly the dæmons hate it, so we as RCs love it!

The "new Mass" has thankfully had some dignity and sense of mystery restored to it by the Church, but my take on it "versus" the Tridentine Mass is still this: The new Mass is like a bunch of musicians/friends getting together for a jamming session. They agree on what the song will be, but then improvise, make things up as they go along, depart from what the composer originally laid out, etc. The focus is on them, on fun, and on their "jamming", which never yields the same results twice in a row. Any pleasure that comes from this is transient, spontaneous, not replicable in the exact same way. The Tridentine Mass is like a group of musicians getting together to perform a chamber or orchestral work by Bach or Mozart. They agree not only on what the music will be, but on how to play it, each person adhering to the directions that were laid out by the composer, their individuality momentarily suppressed so that a collective effort - geared to tradition - will produce a result that is lasting and timeless. With jamming, we get to our "destination" by spinning a compass, and that destination is totally rooted in the "now", the result being a "gift" that we create. When performing Bach or Mozart, we get to the destination by following a map that takes us to a NEW place and experience that transcends the "now", even while impacting it - the result being ultimately a "gift" from the composer.

The issue is, does the mass, old or new take us to our DESTINATION. Mathew 7/13 says the path is very narrow and the gate very small. And few shall pass and the "many" will be destroyed. I love both forms of the Holy Mass. I was familiar with SSPX when I began inquiring of the Catholic Faith, but was turned off by the division. It reminded me too much of the hatred I heard when I was exploring Orthodoxy. I'm fortunate enough to belong to a parish that offers both forms of the Mass, and both reverently, and Traditional Doctrine is taught as well. I feel that people lend a little too much power to the devil than to God. It's sad.

Get a Latin mass missal. Latin and English are side by side so you can easily follow and understand the prayers of the day. It's not complicated. The Latin rite is full of symbolism that is intended to maximize the faithful"s participation in the holy Sacrifice of Our Lord on calvary. Thank you, FSSP, for being a critical contributor to saving the true Catholic church during these dark times .

It makes no sense that the FSSP has adopted the Roman chasuble as some kind of "official uniform" that it wears exclusively, in photos at least. The Gothic chasuble is more traditional. Some 600 years ago, chasubles worn by high ranking members of the clergy became so stiff with ornamentation that movement was impeded. Instead of simplifying, the solution was to cut away the sides, and of course the new "style" was widely copied by all priests. Cutting away the sides enabled garments worn beneath the chasuble to be seen, and they too had to be dolled up with lace and bling. This "cutting" progressed over the centuries until the chasuble became two flaps, front and back, that resemble a sandwich board sign. Nothing wrong with handsome, ornamented vestments, But vestments dripping with Baroque ornamentation and lace and ribbons don't say, "in the image of Christ", they say, "17th/18th century foppish sartorial splendor." All that's missing is the clerical wig. St. Charles Borromeo railed against the extremely pared down chasuble, as did at least one pope. Want to be traditional FSSP? Wear the Gothic, or at least fuller versions of the Roman chasuble such as the Borromeo or Neri.

It's been awhile since this was put on here and it is now '21. I'm 57 so latin mass is a very distant, like 3yrs old, memory. With all that is currently going on with the controversy about the latin mass, this was helpful. I'm not getting why it HAS to be so precise and perhaps that is what turned off many priests to the latin rite.? I know our priests don't go through all that in getting ready for mass. It's a fine line I think between legalism and spiritualism. I am finding the latin very different than the english and one day hopefully, I can attend a latin mass. The closest one to me is almost 2hrs away. However, if the current pontiff succeeds there won't even be that one. Praying for you. Thank you for answering your call to your vocation.

Why are you not part of the one true Church? Christ wants you to receive Him in communion.
@johnking5174
@johnking5174 7 жыл бұрын
Here are my issues with your so called one true church. 1) - I reject your doctrine of transubstantiation, I do not believe Christ wanted a wafer and wine to become truly him, I believe it is a memorial. I believe that it remains bread and wine, nothing changes physically, but the meaning of the bread and wine changes from just bread and wine you get from a shop, to a representation of the body and blood of Christ. I do not believe Christ wanted himself to be locked away in tabernacles, lifted up in monstrances and incensed by clergy. Sorry. 2) - I reject the invocation of saints. Only through Jesus Christ, our one intercessor, do we have someone to go to God for us. No "saint" can do this, only the son of God. "I am the way, the truth, the light. No one comes to the father except through me" - JOHN 14:6. 3) - I reject the Roman teaching on purgatory. There is no such place, not mentioned in scripture. Sorry. 4) - I reject the over glorifying of Mary in your Marian doctrines. I do not accept she was immaculately conceived, or that she assumed into heaven body and soul. No evidence at all of this in scripture. Plus she is not a mediator, no matter how many Hail Marys you say, she can not do anything for you. She is not a Queen, she was a sinner, who God chose as one highly favoured, but not divine. Take a look at your rosary and see that Mary gets ten prayers said to her in one decade, whilst God and the Holy Spirit are left with one prayer each. 5) - Compulsory celibate clergy is wrong and unhealthy. Any clergy should be allowed to marry, have a family and enjoy life. There is no restrictions on them in the bible, many of Jesus disciples were married. If a priest wants to remain single and celibate fantastic, but this should be a choice. 6) - Relics are repulsive to me. Having bits of bones, tongues, arms, legs of so called saints on display and "venerated" makes me sick. These people were humans not saints, they may have lived holy and good lives, but they are not Gods and I am sorry, I just can't stomach the Roman Church's fascination of dead bodies on display too. Padre Pio, St Bernadette, St Vincent de Paul, these people led good holy lives, can they not rest in peace, without their mortal remain stuffed into a glass display case? 7) - The Mass is not a sacrifice, that sacrifice was made ONCE and FOR ALL upon the cross on Good Friday, and no matter how many masses you say, this event can and will not be ever repeated. 8) - I hate that your church denies the faithful to drink from the cup at communion. Christ ordained that both bread and wine should be consumed as a memorial of his most holy body and blood, this includes the wine, and has been used by the Roman church to belittle the faithful and show only the clergy can drink it. Unfair and not what Christ would have wanted. 9) - Indulgences are just nonsense. Doing prayers and certain acts and in return you get "time off" from a place (purgatory) which does not exist, sorry, no way! 10) - The Pope is NOT infallible. No man or woman on this planet is, and certainly not a pope. Sorry. So, I hope you understand why I am an Anglican. These ten points show a clear division between the Roman church and us. How can there possibly be a unity, when we differ a lot. Yes, in terms of liturgy and clerical structure we are very similar and I am proud of it. I like the middle way in which we are both reformed and catholic, we are just not Roman Catholic. I do not believe your church is the one true church, no church is, as I believe all Christian Churches have their own way to heaven and each one has their good points and bad points. GOD BLESS, and if you have any questions you want to as me about our Anglican liturgy, I will try and answer them to the best of my knowledge.
@Bamditzki

1- There are many things I could cite about transubstantiation in the Bible. Here are just 2... 1 Corinthians 10:16 "The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?" St. Paul clearly states that the bread and cup ARE the BODY AND BLOOD of Christ. Not a symbol. Still not sure? 1 Corinthians 11:29 "For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment(damnation) on themselves." A little too harsh for being just a symbol don't you think? You, like the jews, also reject transubstantiation. "Do you wanna leave also?" Said Jesus to his apostles, wanting to know if they also rejected this doctrine. Everyone who denies this Truth, abandons Jesus saying "Yes, I wanna leave also". Didn't Christ said "This is my body"? Deny this and you call Jesus a liar. 2- If Christ only can intercede for us, why does St. Paul tells us to pray for one another? A sinner can pray for you but not a saint who sees God face to face? Didn't Christ spoke with saints (Elijah and Moses) in His transfiguration? Look at Christ invoking saints! God is God of the living... not of the dead. We ALL are part of one body and we all have functions. We all help each other with prayers. If not, then, Prayers don't exist in Heaven? Heaven is full of prayers! Read the book of revelation. 3- Purgatory in the Bible Matthew 12:32- says "And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” Here Jesus speaks of sin against the Holy Spirit. The implication is that some sins can be forgiven in the world to come. We know that in Hell there is no liberation and in Heaven nothing imperfect can enter it as we see in the next part. Sin is not forgiven when a soul reaches its final destination because in heaven there is no need for forgiveness of sin and in hell the choice to go there is already made. 2 Maccabees 12:46- “Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from sin" Matthew 5:26, Luke 12:59- Christ is condemning sin and speaks of liberation only after expiation. “Amen, I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.” 1 Corinthians 3:15 "If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire." Revelation 21:27 “…but nothing unclean will enter it, nor anyone who does abominable things or tells lies.”
