100% agree with not wanting to be "cheered on/yelled at" when doing a workout. I would even tell a judge or coach that before Open workouts, in particular. I much prefer a quieter coaching and encouragement style.

I agree with Boz. I hated being cheered on to finish. Being way older than everyone else at my box (in my 60's) I was always last in a 'for time' workout. I was good at knowing my limits, at running my own race so I totally feel for this guy. I also hated to be in the spotlight. So much so that the others in the box eventually learned with the help of one of the owners to ignore me & just let me get on with it.

I don't like it either. But when I am in a gym and some one is in that situ - I ask them if they want me to quietly support them or leave them be. I always felt like when it happens to me it was a loser fanfare.

I hate that kind of attention but so far it’s been enough to shake my head to get them to stop. What pisses me off though so is people already breaking down their equipment and putting it away.

I agree with you! My gym does not allow people to do that, and that's a great policy.

Please don’t ever cheer me. Leave me alone, thank you!

I don't mind being cheered on when it's cardio, be it box jumps or burpees, but I hate when I'm being cheered on when there's a heavy lift. Recently at a 5:00 p.m. p.m. class, I was on the outskirts of the gym floor & the next class behind us had come in and a couple of the guys felt the need to coach me from afar as I was hitting my PR level weight for myself, I did not hit it and I did not intend to try again. Looking back at old CrossFit games videos, it does feel cheesy to watch Rich go out in the field and try to coach other athletes along.

Gosh yes. Like don't even look at me if I'm trying for a snatch PR. And for the love of all things holy, don't cheer in the middle of a C&J, when I'm getting ready to go for the jerk!!

It was Sam Briggs who was cheering for you 🙂

I think Pat was incorrect. I would venture a guess and say that the majority of people do in fact not enjoy being cheered on. I am absolutely biased because that is how I feel, don't get me wrong. I've been absolutely hyped for someone and let them know it. But I've usually reserved that for like a first muscle up or PR.lift situation. Which I think is fair.

Yes. Just leave me alone and let me die slowly😂. But in a major competition I guess some cheering when you are supposed to lift something very heavy would help. But only then. Love listening do you guys by the way ❤

Question maybe for future philosophy episode: Do you have to be part of a CF box iot learn intensity? iot learn how to keep your finger near the flame longer? (to use Boz’s metaphor) As a strength coach for our Army’s service members, I conclude that they need a like-minded group around them. As individuals, they just don’t get it. They don’t understand the need to get uncomfortable iot increase work capacity. Jon C

As to the workout. This was a coach not knowing their athlete. Three weeks into training is still a novice. As such maybe 12-9-6 would have been a better rep scheme. As to cheering people on. I am guilty of doing it but not to an obnoxious level. However when people cheer me on my response is often,” yeah it is on my to do list”

Question for a future episode. Is it okay to train for multiple competitions at once ? Especially if the training will be very different? I have a strongman competition next year, and there is a CrossFit competition a week later that I want to participate in. Is that a bad idea?
@LaurenGraham-i5hАй бұрын
Really depends on whether you want to go all-in and prioritize performance at one versus the other. I competed in powerlifting and CrossFit in the past year, but left strength gains on the table for powerlifting because I wanted to continue training CrossFit. So it's not 'bad' per se - just depends on you and your goals.
