Seen this on a crab forum about the black parts of the meat but dont know if its true but worth a shout( You are describing classic under-cooking. There is an enzyme in crab blood that turns blue/black soon after being cooked if not at a full boil long enough, first in body meat and will follow veins down into leg meat. Not harmful but not very appetizing to look at. You need to start the cook time AFTER it reaches a boil and maintain a steady boil, during the process. Sections (halves) require about 15 minutes, whole crab at least 20-25 minutes.) The fella describing this apparently works in a factory thats cooks crabs and lobsters then picks the meat to be processed for shops

How the heck doesn't Smash have 10x the subs it has??? I've been watching him for a couple years catching and cooking things and being as down to earth as anyone I believe is on KZbin. I would love to go out with him every adventure he goes on, but he's on the wrong side of the Atlantic for that. (I'm on the West coast of the East coast - e.g. Manatee County Florida). But if you ever do get over here dude, I have a 10(ish, 30 feet) meter Pilot house with twin 200 zukes that would love to take you out fishing several days if you wish. You can bank on that one. Just give me a day or so notice so I can take the days off work!!! Oh, and sorry, our larries don't have claws here in florida. But we do have Spiders, Stone, and Blue crabs. OH, and I was probably about 1/2 as happy as you (because I know you where over the moon) when you got GU82. Did you name her yet? I haven't heard. Mine's "FishBlade" named after my swordfish bill scrimshawed sword I have. Your's gets way better petrol economy though... 🤠👍

I had a thought that I'd shared with you, what if you were just to harvest the claws of the crabs only? I know there may be reasons you don't as whole crabs can be kept alive longer and folks want a whole crab but even if you had to store the crabs live until you had enough to sell you could still do that before harvesting them? As most meat is in the claws you could ask a bit more for just claws but I guess you would be able to put feelers out and ask seafood restaurants/shops if it would be something they'd be interested in? Might be worth it and that leaves more crabs alive to harvest lol Was watching an episode of 'bluegabe' on a crab boat and that's what they did, stuck a blunt knife in the top knuckle and the crab releases its claw but stays alive ... just a thought lol 👍
@ellierk525111 ай бұрын
I think I read in one of his posts below that they aren't allowed to take claws only

Mortality from declawing is thought to be as high as 90% in some species. Apart from that being inhumane and animal cruelty it's not very efficient either. Luckily it's illegal in Europe as far as I know.

Not spider crabs anymore, in Devon and Cornwall they call them SW king crabs, the name puts buyers off apparently. King crabs more commercially friendly. Great video 👍👍

Shame you can’t do something like they do in padstow with the females & eggs, bit of conservation and maybe even a tourist site in the north of the island,
@tonycamplin860711 ай бұрын
You definitely had a better day, I know your pots are just a sideline, as you previously explained to me. Just as well because there was an awful lot of time and effort put into that catch, you wouldn't have made a living from them. That crab roll looked great, however I'm surprised that you didn't use any of the brown meat, in my opinion it's the best part of the crab. Perhaps you saved it for something else? Keep them coming, oh and as others have said, wear a life jacket. Surprised that you don't mark the position of your pots on GPS.
