Welcome to communism. Portugal did the same years ago, tax on property. Poor farmers having lived on their farms for generations had to pay a tax on their ‘assets’. They couldn’t pay, foreigners bought them at a knock down price for holiday properties. The commies Blair and Brown taxed our pension funds (windfall), companies closed their pension schemes, state pension schemes still offer fabulous pensions. Getting a promotion means that your new salary goes into calculating your future ‘pension pot’ and you pay tax on something you don’t have! Doctors etc leaving work is the result, they don’t want to pay tax on a lie. 🙀🇬🇧🇺🇸

NOW.... if someone were to propose taxing the 1% of their wealth (and only the 1%) then we may be onto something. Take from the billionaire and multi-millionaire Wall Street investment banksters, the Hollyweird and media mogul billionaires, the hedge fund billionaires. Clean them out! You know... for "equity". 😂

@@falcorianism3931 The dynamics of wealth and home ownership in the developed world are highly dynamic and ever-changing. It's rare for family wealth to ever make it more than 3 generations. Beyond that is family infighting when someone does do well on their own. It's surprisingly huge despite how little mention it ever gets. I grew up poor and started doing well in life and the immediate reason for that was for my dad to open up a frivolous lawsuit against me because he feels that because I am his kid, my life and assets are his to control and if he cant have it nobody gets to have anything. Now I work at a job I love doing what I love and I own the business and in a good month make more money than I used to make in two bad years of my life and all I get for it is endless lame legal attacks that do nothing but drain every penny I make, thus holding me down to the same level I was at when I was seen as a worthless bum. In Ecuador there was a real insurrection when the government tried to enact a law that would tax 75% of inheritances, people from all social classes rose up to protest, because they saw that this would deprive their children and grandchildren of their inheritance and those Children and grandchildren saw that the government would keep what was theirs. I will try to explain why Latin America is poor, here the idea that the government has to "distribute the cake" predominates, the government must control industry, commerce and money, it has to take from the rich to give to the poor, Basically, economic success is punished and failure is rewarded. You, who have been poor all your life, have the best year you've ever had, and also make $50k. And you pay the same tax. That's strike 1. Income tax is a slave labor tax. You have to work months every year, just to earn the money to pay the tax. Slave labor. Strike 2. It's a tax on you as an individual. A tax you must pay "to live". You can't live without income. A tax "on living". Strike 3. You're out. The Constitution strictly prohibits such a theft tax. Only an Amendment that was never properly ratified, allows this treason. To this day, you cannot be "convicted" of "tax evasion". Al Capone was convicted of filing a false tax return; lying on a form officially submitted to the government. NOT for "failure to pay" income tax. Get rid of income tax. For everybody. Everywhere. Forever.

I want to be totally debt-free before the Greater Depression hits hard, and to own my home free-and-clear. When you lose your job in this Greater Depression, or become sick or injured and can't earn, then you will be glad that you already paid off all of your debt including your mortgage, no matter what the interest rate was. You don't have to worry about things like "oops, I lost my job and can't pay the mortgage" or something crazy happens with the economy and the Congress reacts with someone even crazier - "Sure, you can raise interest rates on existing loans" or ... "since the dollar is only worth 10% of what it was when your loan was approved, that means your monthly payment is now $35,000." I'm no financial expert, but I am an historian and I watch the news and listen to people I know personally who have more money than I. There really is no safe place to invest it now other than in something tangible you can hold in your hand. I paid property taxes, income taxes etc. and saved and saved all of my life. I never took vacations, never bought a new car, did not eat out and NEVER once had Cable TV or cellphones. I raised my two sons (without Stimulus Checks, or food stamps or any governmental money) and educated them on what I had saved over 20 years. I invested in that home, I painted, remodeled, added a bedroom and a deck myself. I lived simply without a dishwasher, or a/c the entire 20 years I lived there. Yes, I made some money when I sold it but that was because the 100 year old home was fixed up and I kept it in pristine move-in ready condition. There will not be any money for my adult sons who make more income than I will ever see in my lifetime. I have just enough for a VERY simple retirement and paying for my health care out of pocket. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

This is the existing system, we pay tax on earnings, we pay tax on fuel and food and more tax on electricity and water, and more tax on any and all services that we might use. GST is a crippling blight on people, the true tax rate for individuals and families is more than 50%.

The Collapse of these banks has torn into global markets, with investors ripping up their forecasts for further rises in interest rates and dumping bank stocks around the world. I'm at a crossroads deciding if to liquidate my dipping $480k stock portfolio, what’s the best way to take advantage of this bear market?

In my opinion, some of these banks were attempting to restructure their bond portfolio, which involved selling their low-yielding bonds despite the potential loss, and compensating for it by buying higher-interest-rate bonds on the open market.

I have learned to not trust corporations. I was badly hit by the '08 financial crisis. Since 2019, I've just been focused on investing through a financial advisor, and it has been paying off, and I'm never going back to banks full time.

Afraid the NY times is correct, one only has to look at the price of housing in the UK since the 1980s and the price of stocks. Stocks have accumulated only a third as much as housing during that period. Meanwhile we’re spending x6 as much on the over 65s as we do on our children as a percentage of goverment spending. But when the boomers were asked to fund their own elderly care (by a right wing goverment) all hell broke loss. Nahh they want a triple lock pension, they want to keep there house, and they want someone else to pay for it all. It just isn’t sustainable given the number of boomers and the rise in life expectancy. Meanwhile I gotta pay £2k a month for 2 under 5s to go to nursery so that I and my partner can work so that we can fund the social welfare the boomers are receiving. Things were literally easier back in the 80s, you don’t need two wages to fund a house which is ten/twelve times the average wage. Anyways let’s talk about avocados and that take away coffee I bought last week.

When I studied Economics in College, they would always say that free markets and Capitalism worked best. But there would always be that one chapter that addressed the Redistribution of Wealth. It's nothing short of Socialism/Communism and yet there it was in every College text book. They would never call it all for what it is.

I once saw this image that said that if someone lived for 80 years & earned an average of $5,000.00 every day of their life, they still wouldn't be a billionaire, but rather have about $150,000,000.00. At the bottom of the image was a line that said that no one works to become a billionaire. So yeah, we should be taxing multi-millionaire & billionaire individuals & corporations in this country more then we currently are! And if you want to argue that taxes shouldn't be raised on the wealthy & corporations, how can you defend them when they send their U.S. dollars to other countries so they can't be taxed & help fund domestic programs to help poor people here in the U.S.?

We need to stop handouts and reduce the amount of taxes making it more lucrative to invest in American companies and innovation. Read Thomas sowell to see what happens when you raise taxes on the 1%, who already account for over 70% of the tax revenues collected by the IRS. You end up collecting fewer taxes, drive away investment, and push money overseas. You think taxing them more is going to bring back some of that overseas money? Seriously??

You think the rich won’t just raise the prices of things they sell through the companies they own so that they can maintain their same standard of living? They won’t pay the tax they will push it onto the consumers which is us. This tax the rich is a bunch of nonsense. Want to get rid of all the government problems? Remove all income tax. Switch to a 1% sales/consumption tax. And the government needs to cut about 90% of its useless wasteful spending and 90% of the branches/offices can be shut down. We don’t need them. We need congress yo make laws, we need the courts, and we need the military. Everything else can go.
