@otoz_to_nieprawda Жыл бұрын
Not really, it was one of the most crowded cities in Europe to be honest. It had some really good architecture, but you should remember that 123 years of Russian hegemony on this land (until 1918) made Warsaw a small town of the Russian Empire, mainly because its’ borders weren’t extended, which could not even dream of the greatness of Moscow. After 1918 the government tried to improve its' capital, but it wasn't that easy - many roads weren't even cobbled, a lot of townhouses were in a terrible condition. After WW2, architects and urbanists had this huge blank space to work on. Not everything turned out great, but the fact that Warsaw is one of the highest cities in Europe now, has an amazing reconstructed and totally new architecture and keeps growing is an enormous achievement, considering the fact, that it was almost completely destroyed.

If I put on a hat, I'm not automatically 10 cm taller. One should measure the usable area of a building and not simply screw an antenna on and then claim that it is a particularly tall building. According to this logic, one would have to include pure transmission masts or at least television towers with visitors or working platforms. And then the tallest building in the EU is suddenly in Riga.

Examples like Riga are antennas and just that, not elements of larger buildings that are still necessary to make communications for a large group of people in one space easier. I believe Poland had the tallest antenna anyway until some time ago, so just make a seperate category for tallest structure. Of course its used to augment the size of buildings, and it's unfair to then say the shard is smaller when even the top is part of the aesthetic, but I guess it's also about how imposing the structure is, and the antenna still adds to that.

It was built by a Slovak developer HB Reavis, they are criticized in Slovakia for this project because of that ridiculous antenna just to make make it ''taller''. They had a chance to build something interesting in Warsaw but for some reason they've decided to build this, unfortunately. Their other projects are pretty cool thought, Nivy Bus station in Bratislava, especially with that garden/park on top, One Waterloo in London, even Agora Budapest is a way more interesting project than Varso Tower. Now I'm glad they are NOT behind the Eurovea Tower (Bratislava's first skyscraper). I am becoming a bigger fan of JT Real Estate after this failed HB Reavis project lol I am quite curious what do people of Warsaw, or Poland in general think of Varso Tower. Do you guys like it only because it is titled as ''the tallest building in the EU'' or you actually like the building and think that it is a great addition to Warsaw's skyline?

The Varso Tower's roof is 754 ft, high. The London Shard's public observatory is 801 ft, high. However, both buildings have no habitable floor space beyond these two listed heights. The London Shard still has the highest viewing floor of any building in the EU. And unlike the Varso Tower, the London Shards architectural top is a fully integrated piece of the building. Whereas Varso Tower is just a last-minute add-on broadcast antenna from the looks of it. It's literally just a pole stuck to the building. 😒 Here in Chicago, Illinois we have exactly 22 buildings that surpass Varso Tower by rooftop height. And we have 5 buildings with rooftops higher than Varso Tower's pole. 🤣

@ziutbryk531 We do have a lot of very tall buildings and broadcast antennas. Even very tall natural things nature has provided, like the giant Red Woods. And mountains over 20,000 ft when measured base to summit. 🙂 But the U.S. is also a massive country that is basically identical in size to Canada but with the 3rd largest population in the world. So history, geography and other factors have played into why things in general are so large in the U.S. As an American, we don't really pay attention to this sort of thing generally. But when European visitors come, they quickly point out and ask why everything is so large. LOL! Lots of land, a big population, coupled with a large economy, I guess, is how most of us respond to that question. 😅

@@GalaxyFur This is typical pride of the superpowers. The Russians also claimed that they had the biggest and best everything. I remember their propaganda in Poland. The Chinese also have such tendencies. They have always considered themselves a "middle country", and all the rest are just some stinking barbarians.
