THE ONLY OPTION WAS DEATH?! I feel betrayed. I never had a choice 🥲

you're definitely right about the bass and drums almost not being on time around 4:30. Like they are in time, but there is definitely a push and pull going there. A lot of metal songs up until the 2000's had that. Then PCs became powerful enough to produce music with, sound engineers started editing and aligning every single hit to be perfectly in time, so the bands that keep this natural groove a few and far between these days.

He forgot to mention how the line in the philosopher that goes "so you preach about how I'm supposed to be yet you don't know your own sexuality" was apparently a line directed at former band mates from the band cynic which featured on the album human about not being honest with chuck about the fact that both Sean Reinert(Human, drummer) and Paul Masvidal (Human, guitars) were both gay in the death metal scene in the 90's which back then was a big No No but Chuck copped hate coz of the way he talked as opposed to the way he sung or vocalised and I think if they were honest with him he would've understood instead it seemed death underwent another line up change but it's a great thing because we got death with Gene " the atomic clock" Hoglan behind the kit but I also think the "LIESSSS!" line is prominent in his artwork because it was his no.1 axe to grind with life this is a man that had been taken advantage of time and time again by record companies and ended up dying a couple of months after 9/11 from brain cancer because he didn't even have enough money from his life's work to pay for treatment it's an absolutely tragic story we never deserved Chuck Schuldiner and he was gone way too Soon R.I.P. the Godfather of Death metal loved and sorely missed by legions of fans around the globe

@21:28 also the structure is kind of symmetrical. At 47 seconds into the song that section begins. You get the palm muted rhythm followed by that swirly little melody. Then you have the vocals. And to finish the section, you get The inverse of the start: the swirly little melody followed by the palm muted rhythm. So it acts as a bookend on either side of the section, symmetrical. Very cool idea.
