And yet, you sit in your comfortable home, warm and well fed, and enjoy the vastly longer life that comes from modern medicine and worldwide distribution of refrigerated food, inspected for safety, and type your thoughts into a magical slate to be instantly shared with like minded souls world wide…. The history of humanity has been one of slow, but relentless progress. With more people today, living longer, healthier, happier, lives of greater security than ever before in human history. More often than not, the front page of the news is festooned with gossip about someone’s precious feelings being hurt than about horror and tragedy. People fly into a rage on the road when someone won’t let them merge, because they fully EXPECT other people to be courteous. We tend to focus our attention on ever more minor quibbles and gripes, and utterly ignore how much we take kindness for granted. By every single metric of human misery and happiness the world is a far better place to live, now, than at any point in history.

Caraxas and Vhagar meet in the air, and as Vhagar’s jaws rip out the Blood Wyrm’s stomach, so does Caraxes rip out her killer’s throat and they begin their descent into the God’s Eye. As four dragons fell, Daemon, being the only one who did not bind himself to his saddle, leaps from the back of his red-winged beast and unto Vhagar, plunging his Valeryian Steel sword, Dark Sister, hilt-deep into his nephew’s one remaining eye. The truth of Prince Daemon’s demise is lost to time, as is his predecessor’s armor.
