You must be forgetting that it is not just women who dont get a choice in who they marry.
@deiseabu3 жыл бұрын
Disagree completely. I hate when people act like Sansa should be grateful for being with Tyrion. Most other girls have their marriages arranged by their fathers and they don’t have much say but they have the advantage that their father would usually find a decent man for her. She would trust her fathers judgement. Sansa didn’t have that because the marriage was arranged by Tywin, the man her brother was actively fighting against. People forget that Sansa isn’t all knowing like us, she doesn’t know Tyrion as a person and his motives. She was forced into a marriage by her enemy and married to her enemy. Tyrion was also fighting against her brother, he fought in a battle against her brothers men and for a full season fought to keep Joffrey in power. He only once helped by stopping Sansas abuse in the throne room but Sansa could have just seen that as a way to keep Joffrey in check. She couldn’t know whether Tyrion was looking out for her or just keeping Joffrey in line. He never does anything else to help her that she sees. He checks if she’s okay after the riot but he didn’t save her. Sansa wouldn’t see that as a kindness but just a formality. We know Tyrion and we like Tyrion but Sansa doesn’t and people gotta remember that. They whitewashed Tyrion in the show but the real Tyrion is very dark and says some disturbing stuff to Sansa. I’m not a Sansan shipper but honestly the way Tyrion turns out so far in the books I think Sansa would be better off marrying The Hound. Willas Tyrell would have been good even though Sansa was being used as a pawn she probably would have had a easy life, I’d say there’s a good few of the northern lords or their sons who would have treated her kindly too.

You have to credit Tyrion for his genuine empathy towards Sansa. Tyrion knew that Sansa earlier lived in a fairy tale fantasy world of princes and princesses. He knew she needed to grow out it, but he also knew it was hard to think of anything crueler to her than to chain her to a Dwarf, and a member of the family that had decimated hers. Tyrion had no issue with paying whores to bed him, but had no delusions about what the prospect would do to Sansa. Also credit Dinklage for the acting job, once it sinks in what exactly Tywin has in mind.

Laughing at how Tywin shouts Cersei down but not Tyrion. He acknowledges Tyrion's concerns and in a twisted, Lannister way, kind of respects that Tyrion has them. On the other hand (not pun intended) he knows that Cersei is just whining for the sake of it
@magmat05853 жыл бұрын
I think in a way he IS thinking about his kids too. Cersei needs to be married off politically, otherwise, she's useless to the family if not an outright liability with her scheming, but since she obviously doesn't like the idea, Sir Loras is a good fit since both will just have to get through the bedding on the wedding night and then neither has to touch each other again, which both will be fine with. Likewise with Tyrion, he's getting his son a pretty wife who's intelligent and emphatic, just like him. Furthermore, she'll be heir to the north once Rob's been dealt with. Tyrion would be hard-pressed to get a marriage that good if he wasn't a dwarf, being the second son. And here's why I think Tywin is partly doing this for his children's sake. If he just wanted to ruin the Tyrell plot, he would just have to marry one of them, not both. He could be using Cersei to secure another alliance.

Charles Dance is an amazing character and portrays Tywin so well but I think it’s a little twisted to say Tywin is your favourite character. He’s a very evil guy who has arguably done worse things then Joffrey but people seem to forget about his past. He sent out The Mountain to rape and murder throughout the riverlands not attacking soldiers but innocent people. He sent the mountain to kill Elia martell and her children. He might not have ordered Gregor to do what he did but Tywin was fully aware what Gregor would likely do. He’s smart and Gregor isn’t a monster in disguise. Twyin murdered an entire family when they rose up against him. It would be like if Tywin wound you the starks and drowned them all in a cave. Do Sansa, Arya, bran or Rickon deserve to die if the adult members of their family disobeyed another lord? No but that’s how brutal Tywin is. Ned would never do that.

Even if the Red Wedding didn’t happen, Robb was fighting a losing battle. He did well fighting against Tywin’s army, but had to use ambushes, hit and run tactics, etc. With the Karstarks gone, Robb had maybe 8,000-10,000 men left. The Tyrells were 50,000-60,000 strong(I think) and Tywin had around 60,000 as well. With the Reach, the men and horses were way better supplied than Robb could hope to be. Not to mention the Ironborn still were invading the North and Robb would have to deal with them in the miraculous event he somehow beat Tywin and the Tyrells. The funny thing is: besides Kevan, even his whole family have problems liking Tywin. Most people just feared him and just a few admired him (Pycelle, Kevan, Tyrion to some extend). It goes to the point that no one on King's Landing atended to his funeral because the smallfolk still remembered the Lannister attack during the Rebellion. The moral of the history is that ruling bye fear ultimately achieves nothing but ephemeral peace. Meanwhile, Ned Stark ruled fair and wisely, and almost ALL of the northen houses are willing to risk everything to protect his children even after losing the war.

It's very subtle, but it's great character writing. Tyrion: "You want Sansa to marry me? How can you do that to Sansa?" Cersei: "You want me to marry Loras? How can you do that to me?" Tyrion is short of stature, but he's a genuinely good person. Bitter and hedonistic, yeah, but when the chips are down, he's very understanding of people, empathizes with them and wants to protect those important to him. The sweet irony is that if he was of regular size, he might be a better knight than Jaime, who has his heart in the right spot, but also isn't above being vain.
