I played through the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC as Top Champion Geeta. After all she does get a new and improved team, and I wanted to see just how good it is!

It should be noted that according to the trainer data for all the E4 members and Kieran, all their Pokémon have perfect IVs and max EVs (either 252 in 2 specific stats, or a mixed spread which is crazy-), which adds to the difficulty. Perhaps if Geeta, or any other trainer’s Pokémon are maxed out like this, this would alter certain damage calcs and turn battles around in their favour.

Honestly, I did feel Geeta was challenging when I had a near max friendship team base game, but the fact that she beat Kieran, a kid who trained in Canon Smogon Academy to beat a protag, and then beat the Principal of said Academy was absolutely awesome! Although I doubt you are the most unbiased example of how it’d go (no one tells Drayton to “Say the line” without serious beef), I’m glad to see that she improved objectively with her new team, even coming close to beating Terapagos’ full strength.

With Geeta's new lineup & the strategy tactics with each one of them, I'm not even sure Nemona's new team could even stand a chance against her team now as Keiran couldn't!!!!!!!!!!! Chesnaught would make its fellow bearded Grass type predecessor proud by following its example with setting up defensive building & HP draining tactics!!!!!! And I have to say that Geeta's Dragapult might slightly impress me a bit more over Leon's Dragapult. Leon's fighting style has always felt like to me in being portrayed as hype-showy & wildly flashy battling; while Geeta's is calm, cool, & collected while fighting with holding nothing back. And honestly Dragapult's own species style does seem in a way to match with Geeta's style. Even the natural/standard moveset of Geeta's Dragapult might one up Leon's Dragapult: true both utilize Thunderbolt & Shadow Ball, but Geeta's Dragapult utilizes Dragon Darts a lot "earlier" than Leon's Dragapult; and I have to say that Geeta's knowing of Sucker Punch might put it over than Leon's with Flamethrower

I've always thought that Geeta's team in the base game should've been Glimmora, Kingambit, Arboliva, Gholdengo, Palafin, and Armorouge/Ceruledge; that said I definitely like the new team they gave her! I was one of the people who criticized her for being so ride or die for her Avalugg but I can't deny that it put in work. Great video as always!

To be fair to Geeta, I think she probably could beat Drayton if you switched up the order of her pokemon, or changed their pairings in the battle. Was always sending out her pokemon in the same sequence one of the rules of the challenge? And I don't hold it against her that she had to use items, considering all the elite four use them too.

There is still room for improvement for Geeta. As always. Why Kingambit didn't get sucker punch baffles me. Also her Espathra should have gotten speed boost with protect. Very hard to keep this in check with stored power and dazzling gleam.

Not that I'm defending Geeta by any stretch of the imagination, but she was never designed to be the "final boss" in the game like other and actually scaled pretty well with the other main story (Penny and Arven). I always saw her as more of a "final exam" question, since you're a student studying at school and not out to compete on a global scale, since it doesn't seem that Paldea has a Pokemon League in a traditional sense much like the Orange Islands weren't a typical league, and for that she fills the role nicely. Would be interesting to see how Nemona handles this, though... Great video, as always :)

Yes, but the issue is that in that case, she shouldn't have been the champion. In universe, it makes no sense for the champion to be so mediocre as a trainer and on a meta level, it robs the player of the satisfaction of feeling accomplished after triumphing over a difficult foe since she wasn't that. If she was fought at the same point in the game but was introduced as the substitute replacing the real champion who is absent for some reason, nobody would have complained.

Cyrano’s may be highest overall, but red’s pikachu in HGSS and Cynthia’s garchomp in BDSP are higher than his Unova starters, at lvl 88. Even red in Let’s go is close to cyrano, his entire team (and the MEGA venusaur) being lvl 85.

I think Geeta's new team is pretty good! However in the future episodes for the other gym leaders, the each gain a sixth pokemon, so I think you should make sure they have those pokemons when you play as them! 😀

I always thought that the one good thing that the BDSP games did was giving the gym leaders items, and making the elite four difficult by giving them held item and ev trained pokemon, so I found it weird when Game Freak didn't give the paldean gym leaders and Elite Four members the same treatment. Now that the Indigo Disk implemented it, and even made the battles into doubles, used the tera typing, and made the teams competitive, yes, I can see the reason a lot of people liked this particular DLC, it's a challenge for us young adults that play these games and want something different without taking it too far.

I feel like it’s worth noting that basically every champion uses one or two “weaker” Pokémon in their roster, so I don’t think Geeta should be catching flak for not filling her team with overpowered Pokémon. Especially since Avalugg, the Pokémon who caught the most heat, more than pulled its weight. She only really lost out to Drayton anyway. Everybody else fell. Although I kinda wonder if using power herb meteor beam Glimmora could have helped.

I wonder what Pokemon Geeta would use for doubles. She seems to look down on the doubles format slightly as evident when she was worried Ryme's gym wouldn't go over all that well, which is also why I think at first she would use her normal team. But if doubles became popular in Paldea, would she change up her team to fit the format? Hopefully Paldean Winds will show what Pokemon she has with her, which may give us some idea as to what she would use.

To be fair all official Elite 4 & Champion battles are 1v1 battles in all other regions after all; I believe blueberry academy made their battle format double battles as a way to symbolize teamwork & coordination-combination in their students. - And it was a nice thought in wishful thinking with Paldean Winds

I suppose its from this series, I looked at Pokemon each game's player character is shown to have, what their rivals add to their teams, and when available checked potential coverage to come up with what each game's protagonist likely had as their team. The teams can be difficult to use, only add members after a point where the rival would increase their party (only 4 in BW until after Cheren Route10 fight), and subtitutes are only allowed when the slots are open but the Pokemon isn't available.

It really doesn’t make any sense how Kieran beat Drayton. I had to use my mostly legendary pokemon team including Mewtwo (lvl 100)and both Miraidon and Koraidon (given they were both lvl 75) to beat him and barely won with just one Pokémon left and a lucky crit, but then my first two Pokémon sweeped Kieran’s team without fainting or using any heals. To be fair I did switch my team up a bit, but I did not grind between Drayton and Kieran. SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW A KID WITH APPLES BEAT A TRAINER WITH A TEAM STACKED WITH SUDO LEGENDARIES!

I actually don’t think Geeta is as bad as a champion as everyone says she is. It’s not really about the Mons you use, it’s what you do with it. Some mons can be offensive or defensive or supportive. Most of geetas team is very flexible so that many mons can fufill multiple roles. In top of that, she’s a pretty unique champion, she uses strong and weak Pokemon, and has a great dynamic with everyone. I hope with time that people can recognize Geeta as a pretty solid champion in the Pokemon world

The main issue is that she didn’t use her pokemon well in the main game. I don’t dislike her champion status for having gogoat and avalugg (I used a physical attacking Hypno and am working on a Hypno-only run), but I do think her “not holding back” attitude doesn’t fit how she used her team.

@@MortalOrder to me I lost to her and then it was a 1v1 cus of kinggambit and glimora. Also, reminder champion in paldaya isn’t a title like the rest of the champions, it’s a rank. Geeta is there to see if you’re on the level of champion. This is evidence by characters like nemona being stronger

@@MortalOrder to be fair, espathra is a better leed then glimora, it’s a very good way of preventing sat boost sweeps. Avulug is really bulky and can be crazy hard to take down. And can hit back with double force, gogoat is very nasty if you’re not careful, and attack boost is STILL a attack boost for gambit, and glimora can be use pretty well offensively as well as defensively

I suddenly feel so much more justified in my frustration at how difficult Drayton was for me. He was the only fight I had to reset...both during the story and for our first rematch. But I guess if a Geeta challenge run can beat literally everyone BUT Drayton, maybe the bozo is supposed to be that hard Oh, and Geeta has officially grown on me as a character. I think the idea of her purposefully handicapping by sending out her og team in a cruddy order just makes too much sense. Combined with more little positive character moments (Look up her conversations with Drayton or Poppy in the League Clubroom), I think I actually like her, even if she's not as ridiculously strong as other champions.

I was like "You know what, I'll fight you with the team I just caught to beat your other trainers with, they're primarily good against Dragon-types anyway even though your grunts really didn't have any of those." Oof...not smooth at all. I leaned pretty heavily on items to make it through the battle. No, Drayton's legit pretty strong.
