Just FYI, "archon" is a Greek word pronounced with a hard "ch" ("ARK-on"), and "Gethsemane" is pronounced "Geth-SEH-mah-nee" (four syllables, with the stress on the antepenult/third-to-last syllable), not "GETH-seh-mane" (only three syllables). Sorry to nitpick, I enjoyed the review!

I don’t know though see I’m not so sure it is grammar. That’s my point. The “proper” pronunciation seems more of language barrier thing rather than a question of incorrect usage 🤔 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽

@@jamesgwarrior1981 Personally, I'd consider pronunciation to be a distinct and separate topic from grammar; I don't know how actual linguists would see it. I suppose the rules that constitute what's "proper" are equally arbitrary in both cases. As someone who grew up reading constantly, and thus always encountering words I'd never heard actually spoken aloud, I was always mispronouncing words myself, like "Caesar" and "epitome." Hell, I probably still do it sometimes without even realizing it, especially with place and people names. I always appreciated it whenever someone would point out that I wasn't saying a word properly, and told me the commonly accepted pronunciation.

For me Orificial Purge was a refinement of all they had done in Hole Below and Patricidal Lust, which is why it is still stands as my favorite (closely followed by Hole Below). Nevertheless, I do admit that the new elements in this record work really well; the faster, crusty aspects and the atmospheric elements are incredible.

I love everything Vastum has put out, including their admittedly odd debut record (love it actually because it is kinda weird) and really love Orificial Purge, even if it didn't drive their sound forward very much. I do think their newest album may be their best. Agree that Leila Abdul-Rauf has pushed her vocals really far forward, and I love all the clean vocals that have been added to the atmosphere of the record. The drumming is a bit different on this album too, even kind of blast-y in the first track which is unusual for them. All in all this is one of the best death metal bands in the world today. Also agree that their lyrics are genuinely unsettling, well worth reading.

just got the album yesterday and I have probably listened to it 6x already. It is that good! Vastum is a special band for me, I’ve liked all their albums even their last one which a lot of people didn’t. But holy hell Inward to Gethsemane is so damn good.They took their time and crafted a haunting dark and heavy DM album that is maybe even their best work yet!

That's weird, Orificial Purge is one of my favorite death metal records of all time. I even felt, I didn't needed to listen their earlier stuff because it was so whole, so tight. Loved the new album, but just not as their previous record.
