Good job as usual Mr. Allen. I was saddened to hear of the death of Fr. O'Collins, too. My condolences to you. l never had the chance to meet him I have read several of his books, including his excellent CHRISTOLOGY and several books he's written on the Resurrection of Jesus, such SAINT AUGUSTINE ON THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST. A few years ago I corresponded with him via email. He was very kind in his responses. He will be missed. May he find rest in the presence of Christ.

John, you are truly winning my admiration with your analysis. Thank you so much for this broad and informed analysis about context and catechism. Thanks for broadening the conversation beyond the West. I truly believe the West is very important, but I get wearied when issues are viewed purely from western perspective, which is the usual practice…. You have successfully broadened the conversation in your lasted editions of ‘Last week in the Church’. This is the hope and the way forward, because the ‘rest of us’ are many and strong, so we cannot be excluded without endangering the future of the Church. Again thanks for this.

I took Christology from Fr. O'Collins at Boston College one summer, as he was passing through between Rome and his home in Australia. We had several "after class chats" about a range of subjects. A scholar and a gentleman.....I remember his classes fondly...may his memory be eternal.

Thanks very much, John, for your excellent and moving tribute to Fr. Gerry O"Collins. I totally agree with you. I took courses under him at the Greg, and I think I can say that we too became friends. He was adviser of my licentiate tesina, and I almost had him as adviser also for my doctoral dissertation. But he was Dean of Theology then, so he directed me to Jacques Dupuis who eventually became my ""Doktorvater". I consider these two extraordinary Jesuits as my great mentors in theology. I was saddened when I read the news of Gerry's passing. The confreres here with me now in the seminary where I teach are all too young to have known Gerry. So, I had no one to share my grief at Gerry's passing -- until your tribute in this week's episode of "Last Week in the Church." Thanks again, and with all good wishes. May Fr. Gerry O'Collins now enjoy fullness of life with the Master he served so well and loved so much.

Very sad news of the death of Fr Gerry O’Collins SJ He taught me years ago and he was a great professor of theology. He was warm, kind and a great writer of theology. Truly a great theologian and Australian. Will always remember his lectures….Yes, now face to face with the Lord whom he wrote about. RIP

As an Italian citizen and a Catholic, I wish that Pope Bergoglio will stay out of our politics. Despite his Italian family name, he is definitely a foreigner. It has been noted that while promoting open borders for Italy and illegal migration, Pope Bergoglio lives behind 3 m walls surrounding the Vatican, and apparently has not opened up the Vatican palace or Saint Martha’s residence to illegal aliens. Viva l’Italia! 🇮🇹

I have never been a great fan of Pres. Obama. However, in 2009, Pres. Obama was giving some address to Congress, and a young Illinois' state representative yelled out, "You lie!" To Pres. Obama while Pres. O was speaking. I can remember it like yesterday. I was so shocked that ANYONE would do that in ANY formal political setting. Or ANY public setting, for that matter. And I remember thinking, "Omg, we (Americans) are in trouble." And we were -- and are. It got worse over the years and then we got Trump -- who baptized lack of manners, lack of compassion, lack of just about anything civil (and human). Today -- I can't even stand to watch the national news anymore. You're right -- we're swimming in a lot of muddy waters that are definitely pulling us down -- and down -- and down. And I don't see us ever recovering. //// I would like to add: when COVID started and everyone was so angry and scared (and in The US they are still angry and scared), I promised that I would never ever be rude to anyone. Over the years I've slipped only three times. Here -- Ion your channel -- 've been a real witch, I know. And saying that I'm just so damned angry with The Church (Oh, I can feel it welling up again) hasn't been ANY excuse. I just want you to know that I've unsubscribed from ALL mainstream Catholic news providers -- including Crux Now -- and I haven't been angry since. It has been SO nice. And when The Church pops up in secular news (and The Church doesn't come up all that often), I don't read the bad OR the good news. The Church has just kinda disappeared off my radar -- and my life has been a lot better. In my own personal life, I've known some great priests -- mostly parish priests, who have usually been much more human and liberal than The USCCB. But -- Bishops and Cardinals and Popes -- I've rarely had any regard for them. You're looking good, John. My very best to you and Elise.

To look at the position taken by the Pope on immigration is his choice. If he wishes to look at those who oppose him as anti-immigration that is his choice. A question has been asked about current immigration policies. Immigration for the sake of immigration? The issue is immigrationism. He’s deliberately misinterpreting what those who disagree on the matter are saying. Would he take an accusation that he’s anti-native?

I say all of this in the hopes that you will see the light and the truth. I didn't know the Truth for 50 years of my life until the Lord came to me on a hike, and I've never been the same. You know the world has a different idea of what truth is, but Jesus, the Son of God, is the Truth. What comes from Him is truth, and one day it will be all that matters. I’m not sure if you know, but sins are acts against God and the Father of Jesus Christ. There are degrees of sin, with killing of another human being as one of the worst. There are consequences for this sin that might not be obvious at first. In fact, you don't even have to believe in Jesus Christ to be affected by sins against God. One day you will take your last breath, and you will be face to face with Jesus Christ, the Judge of every human being who has lived, and you will have to answer for your sins. I strongly encourage you not to vote for a lady who delights in abortions. This is not good for you and certainly not good for this country.

(Maybe you don't know the Divine Praises traditionally following Benediction was originally offered for abuses to the divine Name and the saints.) Australia and New Zealand are not in the peripherays…..Oh and India has 20 million + Catholics, which is near the total population of Australia. Need to get facts right. And India is a deeply spiritual country, thousands of years older than Australia. Indonesia is NOT in the peripherys. It is the largest muslim state on the planet. Over 200 million live there, and Catholicism is small. East Timor is tiny as is PNG. The term peripherays really needs to be dumped. It is a cultural condescention term and needs to be thrown. After all, China, Japan, Thailand, India have far greater historic contributions of thousands of years compared to America in particular. India and China have over 2.8 billion of the planet’s population and are greater states than America. America is not the greatest country on the planet. No way. The arrogance of that is disgusting.
