I had heard about this show for a few years and just watched it on a whim. One of the best shows I've ever watched. I was so surprised. I'm not a religious person, but I didn't want it to be some soy-boy overly critical thing about "changing the church" either... and it wasn't either of those. A thoughtful show about the weight of leading a world religion while struggling with your own personal issues as well. Soooo goood. Attention to detail was fantastic too, with all the pageantry of the Vatican and the conspiring Cardinals.

Although a great actor, with a great show, let me jus correct a few things: The Popes are elected in average at 64; The youngest Pope was Benedict IX, who was elected somewhere between his 11 and 20 years (yeah and you think now the things are crazy); Pope Francis wears black simple shoes, not white; It is a Tiara, for God’s sake, not a mitre. There is a huge difference.

Jude Law doesn't know a thing about real Popes. The red shoes are symbolic for the blood of the martyrs. Popes are not required to wear them. Francis tends to wear black shoes, not white ones. Love his work, though, and this HBO series is excellent.

Young Pope from what I hear was such a massive hit in Italy, I think it's fantastic that it's the first country it was released in. It was released here in Portugal in November, I think, and even though I do acknowledge it is a fantastic show I just find it so.... overly unorthodox I can't watch it, his character is way too crazy for me.
