Thing is with cases such as these there is very rarely physical evidence years and years after the fact, but really only 2-5% of people ever falsely accuse for obvious reasons (The Kavanaugh hearing with Dr Ford being a prime example, her testimony was thrown back in her face) but a lot of the time its through corroborating testimony from various people such as the Bill Cosby case.

There was no evidence whatsoever that Cardinal Pell did this. 25 witnesses on Cardinal Pell's side and 0 witnesses on the accuser. The jury was totally biased against the Cardinal because of the horror of the crime of sexual abuse. The Cardinal himself could not have committed such crime when was outside of the Cathedral, talking to the people of his diocese, exactly when the supposed "abuse" happened. The sacristy door where the accuser said he snuck into and secretly drank wine, is a room that is always locked in the cathedral and full of church staff cleaning up and getting ready for the next Mass. The accuser's story does not add up at all, the other "abused" choirboy in the story denied that any abuse ever happened before he died. The accuser clearly lied, with no evidence or witnesses. It is a completely fabricated story 23 years later because he wanted the huge sum of money and the accuser reported that he himself had been a heroin addict since he was a teen.

I was raised Catholic but it never made sense to me to confess my sins to a stranger, let alone to repeat a prayer for a number of times like a trained parrot and then my sins were forgiven, the idea was preposterous. Why do people refuse to acknowledge that sexual assault causes a life long problem when it is unable to be spoken about and particularly in the Catholic Church, fear of retribution by the priest and disbelief by parents’ was rife. The first time I became aware of catholic sex abuse I was only 8 years old. I went to a catholic primary school and we were reading an article on it during english class. I remember feeling overwhelmed we were just kids raised to believe in the goodness of the Church, that they were there to guide us and protect us. We had our very own church right next door and the entire student body would attend mass every fortnight. In secondary school my homeroom teacher a 60 year old man told us of how he went to an all boys catholic school and deacons/priest were the teachers. They would beat up the students as a form of discipline, he described watching one of his classmates being hit over the head repeatedly by a middle-aged priest getting a bloody nose and black eye. When the allegations first came out we even analysed them during legal class. Parents and leaders of the schools I went to recognised that as catholics it was necessary to address this issue and protect us about being truthful of the severity. In 1966 88% of the nation declared themselves to be Christian, now it's down to 52%. Some may reason it's consumer culture or the progression of science, but you would be a fool to believe it had nothing to do with sex abuse.

He is appealing this, as he should. The second trail was dropped due to lack of evidence btw. All the other charges except the one he was convicted on were dropped as well. Archbishop Philip Wilson was also acquited on appeal.

What she did was wrong, but I experienced similar abuse in a public school, difference that this was normal in 1958 yet was shunned and regarded as abuse when I was a child in the early two thousands, yet it was done to me anyways. Spanking children was normal then, if she did get sexual enjoyment from it she was a pervert but what does that have to do with Cardinal Pell who started fighting this stuff already during the ninetees. I experienced abuse by bisexual women at daycare, it isn`t just nuns.

I was head juror in a pedophilia case and I can say that the number of people on the jury who had been abused as children who wanted to find the person being charged guilty without considering evidence was disturbing.. it could very well be true that Pell is guilty as sin, however I don’t trust a “ jury of peers” as a way of determining guilt , especially in such a high profile case.

What would be enough to convict him in your opinion. I'm convinced because these complaints are just the tip of the iceberg. The priesthood in Ballarat, when Pell was in charge years before this, were notorious, and a number of priests have been jailed. Pell is even guiltier than what these charges suggest.

janeen harris my beef is with the judicial system .. I have no idea whether Cardinal Pell is guilty or not. In today’s world of 24/7 news and social media it is very hard for potential jurors to not be influenced in how to think on just about any matter. I do know one thing though, this judgement will be appealed and I hope everything was done properly, for if he is guilty I’d hate to see him get off on a technicality. I’d also hate to see him wrongfully imprisoned because of bias in the jury.
