I like how Vaush justifies it by saying he genuinely believes he's helping people. He should have read this quote. _______ 'You are ruling over us for our own good,' he said feebly. 'You believe that human beings are not fit to govern themselves, and therefore-' He started and almost cried out. A pang of pain had shot through his body. O'Brien had pushed the lever of the dial up to thirty-five. 'That was stupid, Winston, stupid!' he said. 'You should know better than to say a thing like that.' He pulled the lever back and continued: 'Now I will tell you the answer to my question. It is this. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others ; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from all the oligarchies of the past, in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were- cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just round the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now do you begin to understand me?'

I don't think that as a society, we can exist without any governing body. It's just a matter of question, how opressive it will be. But I write this because of some problems with your statement. Nowadays you can be a socialist and stand by capitalist block of USA and EU. Imperialistic tendencies are observable in pretty much every major political power now. Russia and China are not exempt from it either. And, get this: they are capitalist as well. So it's just a big game of main market players. So I propose to choose a side using metrics such as human rights and wellfare. The clear winner is EU. European Union has its problems, sure, but you have real parlament and political parties, not some two-sided or one nation, one party dogpoop. You have real freedom of speach, and you will not be prosecuted for your ideology (except nazies for apparent, I hope, reasons). Healthcare situation is wonderful, US of A citizens can only dream of something like that. You have a lot of social programs, class mobility is quite high, especially compared with China, Russia and USA. I understand your desire for a real socialist state, believe me, I do. But such wonder cannot be achieved without time and care. And you must agree, it's easier to pursue your ideological goals when you're not prosecuted just because you disagree with you leaders.

Vaush represents the one moral that I can never find a way to justify: the ends justify he means. He constructs his worldview and opinions beginning with the presupposition that he is correct, which therefore means whatever action he takes or views as helping will build towards the world he wishes to see, which he has already decided is the best outcome. There is no room for uncertainty or being incorrect for him. Nothing in our world is entirely and always accurately predicted before either happens, which begs the question of how can you act as though any action will have a guaranteed outcome, and with that how can you justify actions that *should* move towards your worldview the you *believe* is correct. We always should be ready for the situation in which we are wrong.
@xdragoonzero03 жыл бұрын
The only situations where I can even come close to justifying a "ends justify the means", are basically all fictional or so contrived that there's essentially no chance they'll ever happen. That or they're so focused on survival where the evil being done is to avoid imminent death. Stuff like smothering crying babies to avoid being found and killed. But in those situations it feels wrong to even judge those involved, because doing so is like saying they should've died. Anyways, tl:dr, in my mind "ends justify the means" is basically fictional.

I opened this video with the intention of listening to it in the background while I played some games, I thought Vaush was a dishonest idiot but was willing to hear the case for him being evil based on Sargon's recommendation. Now I am 100% convinced, it is genuinely scary hearing Vaush talk about 1984 and his views on the party. There's always been the joke that "1984 is an instruction manual", but I don't think I've ever come across anyone like Vaush who will unironically outright admit to it, and it's fucking terrifying.

As someone who used to watch vaush I’m not 100% sure if he directly came out and said it at some point but it’s pretty obvious that he wants to repurpose a lot of the the things he criticises the right for, but for the left. In terms of propaganda, fear mongering, misinformation. Hes very aware of the effectiveness of those strategies and isn’t dumb and doing these things unintentionally. He I think wants to mobilise and militarise the left similar to how right wings have the proud boys and such.
@dazeslays7 ай бұрын
i agree, he's like any right wing streamer in mannerisms and logic and temperament except the conservative beliefs are switched out with leftist ones. i think it's an... interesting approach. i can see the reasoning behind it, to appeal to the types of folks who might fall down the alt-right pipeline by using similar tactics. but i don't think he does it well enough to justify it. he's a decent entry point into the leftist sphere, but because he's so hostile and his fans are so weird a lot of people get stuck in the vaush zone and never expand beyond that. he seems to have forgotten why he's using the strategies he uses and has just become a stagnant, abrasive, and all around unpleasant person. i don't believe that being nice is some sort of moral imperative of leftist praxis-sometimes if you want to get things done politically you've gotta be an asshole about it. but i do think compassion is an important element of many branches of leftist thought and he has clearly eschewed that completely and in my opinion online leftist spaces are worse off because of it

@@missing_links To tell the truth. I'm not quite sure... When someone tells something, no matter how stupid or evil, I always start with the presumption that the person really believe in what they are saying. You can call me naive if you want. I mean, every single human believe that they are on the side of good, and extremists believe that since they are on the side of the good, that everything that goes against then is evil, and this give then to be a nasty as possible towards these 'Evil' people. If you stop to read about serial killers, rapists, bloody dictators like hit-tler and people of this kind, you will find a theme. Every single one of the worst killers of the world believe that either they deserved something and that the other person was in the way, or that the other person deserved to die for some arbitrary reason. They all claimed that they where right in doing these evil acts. For example, the Na-zis really believed that all Je-ws where evil and greedy. And that's why they had to be put in concentration camps. But alas, what do you think about this? Agree or disagree? I am curious to see your opinion!
@bfranciscop3 жыл бұрын
@@missing_links I suspect a lot of his viewers _are_ getting an ego-stroking from watching Vaush, so it's a mutual thing. When someone agrees with you, it produces positive feelings and reinforcement, an affirmation that your own beliefs are right, especially when that agreement comes wrapped in a veneer of legitimacy. Ideally you'd seek to get this sort of reinforcement from someone who isn't a liar and a grifter, someone who is capable of admitting when they're wrong... but hey, such are the ways of confirmation bias.

Honestly, I now think that the only reason this guy is “left” is because he believes that is where more personal and political power can be gained. The right supports strength and responsibility in the individual, kinda. And the left finds strength through numbers and collaboration, kinda. I honestly think that this guy saw the left group and thought; this is it, this is my road to power. He obviously doesn’t care about the ethics or the morals behind it all. The thing is, sincere debaters will do this too, and it's actually a respectable way to introduce a civil disagreement. @@seanevans6880 Yeah, I guess that's why they do it. I don't know if it's drawing the circle too wide, but it seems to be a common tactic for this type of ideologue. Taking some kind of norm (even one as small as this) and using it's momentum to fuel the ideological movement until they've exhausted it's legitimacy and people start to see through it as a form and start reacting to the substance instead, then they move onto the next thing they can exploit, whether its Disney movies or debate tactics. I think its actually the same thing that cults and sociopaths do when they learn to manipulate the outward forms of collective and interpersonal relations. For normal people the end goal is the social relationship, for the sociopath it's just a means to get what they want.
