You dont have to remove the drive shaft etc just the 3 bolts at the back of the hub, when lose they catch on the drive shaft but the hub still comes free 😀 just the calipre and disc to remove with the big nut on the drive shaft. Thread the wire for sensor through the hub hole and piece back together. Did mine today

You can not change the full speed sensor wheel bearing without removing the drive shaft..

Great Video My sons Astra (H) 2008 failed MOT on Tuesday because of rusty rear discs, I put rear brakes on Wednesday, when I took car for a run the ABS light was on, So checking this evening (Thursday) the fault is actually front right speed sensor not reading, took of front wheel and drive shaft has ate through side of cable, so either that ABS light was on before it went for MOT & not noted by MOT inspector OR he pawed about and pushed the cable against the drive enough for it to run through insulation, my son says he never noticed the ABS light on before but we know what young ones are like. Anyway i was about to order up a ABS sensor until i seen you video, I think ill solder the cable first and heat sink it before i tackle the replacement,

Hi Bits & Pieces. I have a corsa D (1.3 diesel, 2007) and all of a sudden all interior lights including speedo, fuel gauge etc turn off. Headlights, engine, steering, brakes working all sound and does not affect the rest of the car. The only way to make it work again is switch off the engine, take the key off and right from the start again. It does it in very random occasions. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Wondering if it could be a loose speedo/clock cable?

glykoulis kaiomorfos Hi,that will be nothing to do with the speedo cable..sounds like you have an electrical fault..check your battery connections first to see if they are lose, check your fuse box for any signs of burning or rust or bad connections..just go through your electrics visually

Pashq iraq it depends on your cars set up..some are on the gearbox..go on to a parts website ..Put in your registration number and see what parts they sell regarding your abs and speed censor.. thst should give you some idea of what you need and where it is located

Thanks for the video Bits & Pieces. I have a 2002 Holden Astra. The speedometer works intermittently, generally not working. When it stops working the needle will move all the way to maximum speed. The ABS light has never come on. All other instruments work; although they all did all stop working for about a week when the speedometer initially broke they are all working again now and have not failed in the last year. Do you think the issue with the speedometer is related to the speed sensor? Or is there another issue you can think of? Also, as I an see in your video, the odometer still works on my car which appears the same on yours. I assume the speedometer and odometer are not running off the same sensor on this model? Thank you for your help.

Hi, on this model the speed sensor is part of the wheel bearing, so even if the ABS is Ok the speed sensor can still stop working and vice versa ..you will need to check what part is fitted to your car ..a good way of doing this is going online to a parts supplier and putting in your registration number it will give you the list of parts your car as fitted

I have same issue and when I come to a stop after driving she cuts out completely have to start up again. Will the new abs sensor fix that I wonder? I've clean valves the whole lot problem still going but didn't change sensor yet?

Shane Dunne HI, no unfortunately, the ABS and speedo sensor will not affect the running of the Engine..buy one of those cheap OBD readers of eBay ( around a tenner) and see what codes come up..check youtube for any videos on how to do that..thanks

That's a new one on me mate. Speed sensor in the wheel bearing hub. Every car I've worked on has been direct from the gearbox. That includes east west engines

This car is a 2003 model so as you can see they have been around for a while now,the earlier model of this car had the speed sensor in the gearbox as you say mate .. but they conbined the ABS and Speed sensor in to one unit it also saves having to have individual ABS sensors on each individual wheel ...thanks for watching Gazza

I have similar problem with astra G 2004. Abs light went on when driving, servo stopped working and speedometer also stopped working. Car electrician checked the alternator. It's ok, then checked all the fuses. ABS fuse was faulty. We changed the fuse and ABS light went immediately off and servo started working again. I drove off home, but after 500 m problem repeated. I left the car at electrician now. Short circuit or what?

75Markoj Hi, the brake servo is not on the electrical system .. sounds like you might have a faulty fuse box or faulty wiring you will need to trace all the ABS wiring to check for breaks or corrosion or water penetration

Hi, i have Opel astra G 2003. Got the same problem and don't know what to do. So... The abs lights up and the speedometer arrow goes down and the mileage does not count at this time. I also noticed that when all this happens to the car, it starts to blunt somehow. That is, when I change the gear speed, the car shakes and jerks.I tried different scanners and only one gave an error (P0500). I just want to make sure that the problem is actually in the abs sensor. Not in wires or somewhere in the brain. As far as I learned on the forums, the sensor does not change separately and you need to buy a hub with a built-in sensor, right? Please advise me what to do? Hi, it does sound like you have the same problem as this car. If you are unsure or not a home mechanic, I would take it to a garage for repair.

😞 Solder was a complete hash, just to little to solder to in at the drive, so can you tell me the size or what sort of socket fits the star head bolt in your video at 3:21, i know a 14mm spanner will fit but id a session on the rear brakes and dont want the same session on the front hub, also the driver side speed sensor - i dont see any on ebay, will a motor factors have those?

Sorry I can not remember the size of the star socket..I've just had a quick search and the part is still readily available, and on ebay ..look for Vauxhall front wheel hub ABS speed sensor bearing.

Hi there..it is really difficult to diagnose your problem without seeing the car and it's symptoms..but if your car is fitted with abs/speed sensor hub, they get dirty and worn and give of false readings, so it could be that

Oh I see.. did you fit a new speed sensor/abs bearing..yeah that's right the car computer needed to sense it and sense all is well and re-set. I did mention this in the video..

@@BitsPieces actually i had to remove the gear box to repair it, and since that the problem started, the battery was off too. But now solved by itself once the hub learn the real speed. I drive my car into Chevrolet but even the mechanic could not say what it's going on... So i leave it with the problem and when I go to the trip, problem solved, luck of mine hahaha, here in the Brazil that kind of repair are expensive

I think you will need to check all the wiring..is the speedo now working..if not its probably a wiring problem..

Looks like it could be the wiring to the hub sensor...was it the same type as in the video you replaced..ABS/Speedo sensor .. if so, I can only now see it being a wiring problem...unplug the wiring as much as you can (all plugs to the sensor) and spray something like WD40 into all the connections. Or get a new wiring loom for that side from a breakers or the like...everyone I have done the ABS light and speedo as always worked after a short drive and the ABS light as always gone out. .

I got the same problem, ABS light on and speedometer not working, So will have to get it done soon as my MOT is due in 2 months, Would like to try myself but I always just end up going the garage.Just spent £235 getting new pads and Discs upfront, one of the pads was left so worn the metal plate of of the pad was eating into the old disc, all done now. Wonder how much the garage will charge me to get a new sensor fitted, probably another bloody fortune, then he says I may need a shock absorber as well !!! Also my odometer has stopped working, is this related to the sensor or not? Once I have had all the above jobs done I should have a good car.

Depending on your model and year.. some cars have or used to have the speedo sensor on the gearbox.. this particular var they are on the wheel hub..put your registration number in one of the online part sellers like Euro Parts and see what its suggests for your car.

It was on the model and year.. some do have ABS sensors on all 4 wheels..not built in the the bearing, a separate sensor..just look at your car for the ABS plug and wires on each hub, if you are not sure .

@@dominicjohnson2151 I would do a visual check and see what is actually fitted to your car, this model only had the one speed/ ABS sensor bearing set up.. just look for any abs wiring to each wheel and see what is actually fitted to your car.

if it stays out its sounds like a loose connection or dirty connection somewhere ,.. its hard to give proper advice without me being at the car.. ,.. clean all the connections for the ABS at the wheel hub unplug then and spray then with WD40..the ABS censor could be giving out failure signals because its becoming worn

Second, I see you are making real effort replying to everyone asking you a question, even silly ones. Thank you. Now, I have the exact problem that you had there. My car is Astra g SXI 2004 so it is almost an Astra H..I checked the two front wheels and both seem to have an ABS sensor! I connected the sensor plug to an AC multimeter and span the wheel few times. I could see some readings so I guess the sensors are OK? I checked the cable resistance it was around 400kohm. (I think). Last weekend, I checked the rear wheels and found out there is what seemed to be an ABS sensor on each of them. I am a bit confused as almost all threads i read is saying the ABS sensor/speedometer sensor should be in the passenger side. Are you aware of a reliable method to diagnose this sensor before replacing it? my worry is doing that won't fix my problem. Thank you very much

Hi..you.did the right thing by putting a multimeter on it...do this to all four censors they all should read petty much the same..apart from the faulty one..Have you tried a OBD fault reader to see if that brings anything up.

So the OBD fault reader doesn't return anything..however, when i do the pedal check i get the P0500 error code. I will check the rare what-seem-to-be-ABS sensors and let you all know. Speedometer and odometer don't work along with ABS light is constantly on. When the problem was just new, the Speedometer would jumps between 0 and 60mph but then it died all together.

Well that tells me it's down to the wheel speed censor..change the whole hub if it the same as the one in the video....you can get them cheaply on eBay..whatever work you do regarding the ABS censor or speed censor..don't forget to give the car a little run on the road so the computer can see all is well and turns the ABS warning light off.

I've had a quick look at whats available for your car..it was showing front wheel bearing with ABS.. usually that is fitted to the front passenger side.. usually after a run in the car the computer recognises that its now working and resets the warning light....I think more investigation is needed with your car..did they check the wiring that goes the the front passenger side wheel bearing ABS sensor..other than that, I can not help you.

I personally think it's a shit idea..!! I would rather have an independent sensor on the hub carrier like a lot of them or even a gearbox drive and replace a small item like a sensor on the top of the gearbox than have to change a perfectly good wheel bearing for a pissy-arsed piece of electronics that costs nearly fuck-all to make..!! Just saying... 🤔
