When replacing the clutch on a Vauxhall Corsa, it’s not typically necessary to drain the gearbox oil as part of the standard procedure. However, if you need to drain the gear oil, here's how to do it properly: ### Steps to Drain Gear Oil from a Vauxhall Corsa: 1. **Locate the Gearbox Drain Plug**: - Find the drain plug at the bottom of the gearbox. It’s usually a hex or torx plug. 2. **Prepare for Draining**: - Place a suitable container under the gearbox to catch the oil. - Make sure to use a container with enough capacity to hold the gearbox oil (check your car's manual for the specific capacity). 3. **Loosen and Remove the Drain Plug**: - Use the correct tool to unscrew the drain plug slowly to prevent a sudden flow. - Allow the oil to drain completely. 4. **Inspect the Drain Plug**: - Clean the plug and inspect it for metal shavings or debris, which can indicate wear in the gearbox. 5. **Replace the Drain Plug**: - Once the oil has drained completely, reinstall the drain plug securely but without over-tightening. 6. **Refilling Gear Oil**: - If needed, fill the gearbox with the correct type of gear oil as specified by Vauxhall. Fill it through the gearbox filler hole until the oil reaches the required level. Always refer to your vehicle’s service manual for specific instructions and torque settings for the drain plug.

Very helpful video sir. I have the exact same model car and been following the exact steps and I installed the new clutch kit and fitted the bell housing, but my clutch pedal at the beginning was very light with no pressure and I left it like that. The next day I pumped a few times and the clutch pedal started to become very hard to press, what is happening with my clutch pedal if you can suggest please ? Thanks.

It sounds like there might be an issue with the clutch hydraulics or the installation of the clutch components. Here are a few possibilities and steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue: 1. **Air in the Hydraulic System**: - If there is air trapped in the clutch hydraulic system, it can cause the clutch pedal to feel light initially and then become hard. You need to bleed the clutch system to remove any air bubbles. This process involves opening the bleeder valve on the slave cylinder and pumping the clutch pedal until the air is expelled and only fluid comes out. 2. **Incorrect Installation**: - Double-check the installation of the clutch kit. Ensure that all components are correctly aligned and seated. Misalignment of the clutch disc or pressure plate can cause abnormal pedal feel. 3. **Clutch Cable Issues** (if applicable): - If your model has a clutch cable instead of a hydraulic system, inspect the cable for any kinks, fraying, or improper routing that might be causing the pedal issues. 4. **Hydraulic Master or Slave Cylinder Faults**: - A failing master or slave cylinder can cause irregular clutch pedal behavior. Check for any leaks around these components. If there is a leak, the faulty cylinder will need to be replaced. 5. **Clutch Fork or Release Bearing Issues**: - Check the clutch fork and release bearing for any signs of wear or damage. These components need to move freely and smoothly to engage and disengage the clutch properly. ### Steps to Diagnose and Fix the Issue: 1. **Bleed the Clutch System**: - Locate the bleeder valve on the slave cylinder. - Attach a clear hose to the bleeder valve and place the other end in a container with some brake fluid. - Have an assistant pump the clutch pedal several times and then hold it down. - Open the bleeder valve to let out any air and fluid, then close it before releasing the clutch pedal. - Repeat this process until no more air bubbles are seen in the fluid coming out of the hose. 2. **Inspect Installation**: - If bleeding the system doesn’t resolve the issue, inspect the clutch components for proper installation. Ensure the clutch disc is correctly oriented and the pressure plate is properly secured. 3. **Check Hydraulic Components**: - Inspect the master and slave cylinders for any signs of leakage or damage. Replace any faulty components as necessary. 4. **Clutch Fork and Release Bearing**: - Check that the clutch fork is correctly positioned and that the release bearing is functioning properly. If you continue to experience issues after these steps, it might be beneficial to consult a professional mechanic for a more thorough inspection and diagnosis.

@@SanuMotorswithCharlie Thank you for your guidance. The issue was not checking the hydraulic component properly. I mistakenly did not see the rubber seal from old clutch tip that was stuck in the bleeder pipe that connects to the slave cylinder pipe in the tranmission. that caused the fluid to not flow properly and cause the pedal to be sometimes too hard or sometimes too spongy. Removed it and immediately started working properly. Thanks for showing.

Have you ever fitted a borg & beck clutch to the corsa or would you recommend an LUK clutch instead.
@SanuMotorswithCharlie10 ай бұрын
Both Borg & Beck and LUK are reputable brands in the automotive industry, and both produce quality clutch components. When it comes to choosing between them for your Corsa or any vehicle, it often comes down to factors such as personal preference, availability, pricing, and specific needs. Here are some considerations: Price: Compare the prices of Borg & Beck and LUK clutches, factoring in any discounts or deals available at the time of purchase. Availability: Check which brand is readily available in your area or through your preferred automotive parts supplier. Quality and Reputation: Both Borg & Beck and LUK have solid reputations for producing high-quality components. Look for reviews and feedback from other Corsa owners or automotive enthusiasts to gauge their experiences with either brand. Warranty: Consider the warranty offered by each brand. Some manufacturers may offer longer warranties or better support, which can be beneficial in case of any issues with the clutch. Compatibility and Fitment: Ensure that the clutch kit you choose is compatible with your Corsa model and engine specifications. Check for any specific requirements or recommendations from the manufacturer or your vehicle's manual. Performance: While both brands offer quality components, some users may have preferences based on their driving style or specific performance needs. Research any performance differences or advantages offered by each brand's clutch kits. Ultimately, either brand should provide you with a reliable clutch solution for your Corsa. It's essential to consider your priorities and requirements when making the decision between Borg & Beck and LUK.

Did you even take out the starter motor?
@SanuMotorswithCharlieАй бұрын
Great question! For this particular Vauxhall Corsa clutch replacement, it wasn’t necessary to fully remove the starter motor. Instead, we just loosened it enough to give clearance for the gearbox removal. This method saves a bit of time and effort without compromising the process. 🔧 However, in some cases or models, you may need to completely remove the starter motor depending on the setup. Thanks for watching, and feel free to ask if you have more questions! 🚗👍 #VauxhallCorsa #ClutchReplacement #DIYMechanic

Brilliant Video. Just had clutch replacement and master cylinder replaced by local Garage on Corsa Eco 2016 as video. Problem now found it that have to lift the clutch pedal high before able to get into 1st gear. Garage advised just needs to bed in. Currently disputing with garage as checking clutch adjustment is not manual on this car but automatic adjustment with wear. Suspect bleed the clutch?

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue related to the clutch pedal engagement height after the recent clutch and master cylinder replacement on your Corsa Eco 2016. Given that the clutch in this car should have automatic adjustment, your suspicion about improper bleeding might be valid. Here’s a breakdown of what might be happening: 1. **Improper Bleeding**: If there's air trapped in the hydraulic system, it could cause issues with the clutch pedal engagement. When there's air in the system, the clutch might not fully disengage, leading to the need for you to lift the pedal high to engage 1st gear. Re-bleeding the clutch system could resolve this issue. 2. **Master Cylinder Issues**: Even though you just had the master cylinder replaced, it's possible that it wasn't installed or adjusted correctly, or there might be a defect in the part. A faulty master cylinder can lead to improper pressure in the system, causing similar symptoms. 3. **Clutch Slave Cylinder**: If the slave cylinder was not properly addressed during the clutch replacement, it might also lead to poor clutch performance. Air in the system or a faulty slave cylinder could cause engagement issues. 4. **Clutch Bedding**: While it's true that clutches may take some time to bed in, this typically affects the smoothness of engagement rather than requiring you to lift the pedal excessively before getting into gear. The garage’s explanation seems insufficient if this symptom persists. ### Suggested Next Steps: - **Request a Re-Bleed**: Ask the garage to properly bleed the hydraulic system to ensure there’s no air trapped. - **Test the Clutch Engagement**: Once the system is properly bled, test the clutch engagement to see if the issue persists. - **Check the Master and Slave Cylinders**: If re-bleeding doesn’t resolve the issue, they should also check the master and slave cylinders for any defects or improper installation. If the problem continues despite their assurances, you might want to seek a second opinion from another garage or a specialist. Keep pushing for a thorough check, as a new clutch should work smoothly after installation.
