Done my first ever service yesterday after watching this, thanks! Sump nut rounded off and garage didn’t want to crack it in case the sump itself cracked so had to use an oil extractor to get it out through the dip stick hole. Not ideal but it’s done. Felt like a proper bloke 😁

Thanks for this. I done a full service on my gf's Insignia B (first time I've changed a fuel filter), but she jumped in it straight after and engine started for a second or 2 then cut out! She looked at me with a look that would melt iron, I think she loves her car more than me. Anyway, this video saved me, turned the ignition on and off about 15 times without the engine, and eventually started hearing some strange noises from back near the fuel filter, bit like the noise when someone is milking a cow into a bucket! After that car started up but stuttered a bit. Took it for a spin and after that it has been fine! So thanks for that, I appreciate it.

I always give this a quick watch before I service my insignia. One tip I have found is the large Toblerone tube makes a great drain for the filter housing with one side cut along the length to make a channel. Done my for the last time as it's now up for sale to be replaced by a camper.

This is really great. I've had a 2011 Saab Z19DTR which is really similar for three years now and only with the last service did I decide to do all by myself. Took a lot of digging on the internet to find out where everything was, but once you do it, it's really simple the next time. This kind of videos really help build up confidence to do this kind of stuff yourself, highly appreciate it. And once you know how to do it, you just wish you'd done it sooner because it's a huge saving not having to take your car done by someone else.

Yes you could but that could invoke a lot more work on some vehicles. I think that is over kill myself if you do regular oil changes there's no need to remove the sump. But if you wanted to there's no harm in doing so

I'm about to start servicing. I doubt the garage I was using was doing it all. I always had to chase them to stamp the book, and it was always main service - never interim. So it was always more expensive. I did disks and brake shoes all round the car last week, now following this to fully service this coming Monday along with drop links and rear nearside spring in prep for MOT. (I have a 2014 Insignia, had it 10 years). Thanks lot mate, even at 5 years - this is gold! Subbed 🙂

Just finished all but the oil (which I do every 10k miles). Handy tip I came across - put a snug fitting wooden block between the car body and the filter body. This stops the fuel filter body from moving if the filter has been tightened to more than 25Nm (as mine had been!).

Cheers again for the video 👍

@@Thediycarchannel Hey, sorry I'm not meaning to discredit your work in any way whatsoever. I just get a bit worried for anyone who might take a chance not using a stand. Hi please can you tell me why my insignia 2011 always loses the oil cap, I always tighten it but it always comes loose and enough oil is escaping from there. Secondly, under the cabinet driver's side. After switching the engine off, there's this sound like long bip sound that slowly goes off. The last. In the air system or hydraulic system, there's also sound like gas out of a cow. But only sometimes not always. I want to be sure of what it's going on before I will go to mechanic. Sometimes it can be something that doesn't need a repair hope. Thanks

Great video. I have carried out my service on my 2016 vauxhall insignia 1.6ltr diesel and seems to have gone well. Only concern now is the engine management light is on. Looking through the Haynes Manual I have and online, is the engine management light on as there is too much oxygen in the system that the sensors are picking up and will clear/remove the engine management light if you continue to drive the car?
@Thediycarchannel5 ай бұрын
Is the maf meaning the mass air flow meter bad? Sounds like that could be your fault
@tonyBobb52095 ай бұрын
@Thediycarchannel haha! It has since cleared. I'm just in need if a obd scanner to clear the 'service' message on the dashboard. Thanks again for the step by step guide, made the self service very easy.

Is it easy enough to do fuel filter without jacking the car? I have no axle stands and just the standard scissor jack the car came with, auppose could use that, wary tho with no axle stand. Great video btw. Always someone who will need it.
@Thediycarchannel8 ай бұрын
You would need to jack it up for clearance really unless you have a high curb near by you can park on. Use your scissor jack but put somthing under the car incase it falls also the wheels will. Still be on

Top video, was going to pay to get my service done but after watching your video, i am confident i can do it my self. Two questions, do the new seals come with the new filters? and would you recommend using a engine flush/. Cheers
@Thediycarchannel Жыл бұрын
Thank you. If you buy a good brand like Bosch or mann etc they normally come with seals. On brand new cars a flush would be fine. But on a car that's done miles I wouldn't personally. It may loosen stuff up and block the small oil feed holes etc. Just regular oil changes will be fine. And if you start to do it yourself it saves a lot of money too

@@Thediycarchannel Cheers bud, going to follow your video when i do it in a week or so. I know i am late to your video but i have never really worked on my cars as i have never done so until last weekend, i changed the alternator and now after watching your video, i have the confidence to do a full service, cheers.
@Thediycarchannel Жыл бұрын
If you did the alternator you will be totally fine with a service it's easier than brakes. If you get stuck drop a comment I will do my best to help. Also when you do it let me know how you get on it would be nice to hear of your success.

Class video. Is the under tray easy to come off as not keen on trying to change oil through the pull down flap.
@Thediycarchannel5 жыл бұрын
Thank you To take the drop down flap off you have to undo a few screws at the front then cut fabric tape at the rear this is why I left mine off
@Thediycarchannel5 жыл бұрын
And if you leave flap on You have to jack the car really high to fold it towards rear of car out the way It's a pain

Thanks. Very useful. Serviced my old car but only recently got a 2015 insignia and couldn't work out where the oil filter was. Can you not use a piece of tube over the filter drain and send it into a tub rather than the cardboard?

Yes I'm sure that would work but I just use cardboard

Hi, at the end of your video (13min 30 secs) you are re-pressurising the fuel system by turning the ignition on and off ? - Does that mean the fuel pump is electric ?? Also what size is the OIL filter cover ? - I know you said the fuel filter was 36mm - But what size is the oil cover ??? it looks a bit smaller ? possibly a 34?
@Thediycarchannel2 жыл бұрын
Yes its the fuel pump The sizes should be in the video and in the discription I can't remember the sizes of the top of my head not had that car for over 3 years now

It's 32mm it's in the video discription all the tools and sizes are listed there

Thanks from all the ZB Commodore owners in Australia, left high and dry by Holden, who couldn't give a toss once they took our money,(especially about safety recalls),- and probably don't do anything when we pay THEM to service our car. Now i will do it myself rather than support them any more.

Aside from jacking the car up and removing the drivers side wheel. Are you trying to angle the car in any way to aid drainage?
@Thediycarchannel4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question No not really it's on a level surface u can lower car to help it drain a bit more But with regular oil changes that I do around every 3000-5000miles it makes no difference with a little left in there it would probably be 100ml-200ml possibly

One question I forgot to ask, did you jack up just one side of the vehicle or both sides to get underneath. If just one side, will this allow complete drainage of the oil from the sump? Thanks.

Both due to engine cover underneath and you need it quite high to fold it back

I can not see the oil consumption on top on my mileage- on car PC screen. I see only mileage. Is there any way to turn ON that, so I can see also oil consumption? Thank you.
