Good video, I've got this brilliant engine in my 2007 combo van, alternators done 291k and finally gone the vac pump at the end chewed it self up and ripped the back of the alternator off all the while ripping the v belt to shreds, what a mess that made started screaming and then boom bits everywhere on the road lol though to be fair it's sounded rough for a while and the seal between the alt and vac has been leaking, I bought a new one and fitting it Thursdays, whole alternator with new vac pump.

great video i need to do this on mine and will follow your instructions will the car leak all the oil out please ie do i need to drop the oil from the sump ? its a shame your not in manchester i would have paid you to do it lol

good job . i have done a lots of these in toyotas . mit pajero . isuzu s etc few years back . jappenese seem to like this method for vacumn . although makes altenators changes difficult and messy. easiest altentor i ever changed was on jeep cherokee most difficult starter to change also jeep cherokee 😬

What's the best make of alternator you can recommend my astra van needs a new one as dosent work correctly underload . It's a new apec unit so it's going back under warranty but want to but a good quality unit

Used this video which was great help, however I now have EML on for Steering angle. Won't seem to clear or calibrate, Any ideas?

Full turn and lock steering wheel on both sides, left and right. Lock and unlock the car, should do the job

Question, the oil feed to the alternator comes from where? and is it under full engine oil pressure or is it regulated, also is there a return oil feed from the alternator and where does this go, thanks

usually returns to engine block (on a Nissan anyway) i expect there is a restrictor on the oil gallery outlet as it doesn't need much oil

The vacuum pump is driven off of the alternator on these and the vacuum pump needs an oil feed. The oil seal on the vacuum pumps often leak and you end up with oil leaking into the alternator and then out the bottom of the alternator housing or spraying out of it. The oil pump itself is within the block and driven by the cambelt.

Hi, is it engine oil that is getting pumped via alternator or for something else, only ask because I want to use some "Restore" Engine restorer on my 1.7cdti but it does say it cant be used on engines that use the oil for other hydraulic purposes, hope that makes sense, thanks in advance.

@offbeatwarble The oil seal leaking on the vacuum pumps is only the case on these models (Opel 1.7 cdti) or any car with a vacuum pump driven off of alternator?
