Your a life saver ...thanks so much for this ...from jumping in my corsa to it not switching on , I’ve managed to repair it with a new barrel & now done this with the new key 🔑, now she starts no problem & only cost me £9.99. Saved me a small fortune at any garage no doubt. Thanks so much mate 👍🏼 it’s much appreciated

Glad I could help. I remember when I did this job I put everything back & was convinced the car would start but still nothing! So I took the spare key apart to see what was in that which made the car start & had a eureka moment!

Just done a barrel change and wondered about that little chip thing. Now I know I gotta swap the chips, cheers

Yeah I swapped everything over & it just wouldn't fire up, was driving me insane til I realised this needed swapping over also!! 🤣
@GKPMusic3 жыл бұрын
@@refinition213 I've swapped it but not tested it yet. I probably will tomorrow if i get a minute. Think mine were super glued in. it was ballache trying to get them out. Not bothered gluing them in now swapped, doesn't seem necessary Then again, anything could happen and the cuip gets lost so maybe i should just to be cautious

Thanks so much. The barrel on mine sheared tonight (at home thankfully). Hopefully I'll get a second hand one tomorrow and this tip will have saved me so much hassle.

No problem at all. It's not a bad job to do really, some good videos out there about showing how to remove the bits etc. Let me know if I can help in any way if you get stuck! 👍👍👍

Great video! My Astra 07 ignition barrel wasn't recognising that the key was taken out. I couldn't lock my car as the central locking wouldn't work. So I purchased a (eBay 2nd hand) barrel, fitted it but it wouldn't start. Thanks to you I changed the whole circuit board over (as my key didn't have a separate mobiliser chip) and hey presto it started!!! I did a quick key resync and the central locking it working too. Your a star!

Hiya mate, hope it helped! I had the same issue. changed everything over & car still wouldn't start so had to figure out why by process of elimination. I split the spare key from the original barrel open & saw the only thing inside was the small microchip & once I installed that into the new key, bingo it worked!! I did wonder about attaching that to the code reader but its like it has to be "in the barrell" in the correct position to work inside the key

This helps but how do you remove it from one key to the other with out braking the chip now this is the problem cause the chip is tuff as nail👀
@soots-stayingoutofthespotl54954 жыл бұрын
MY ADVICE: go steady and take a good look before removing that chip, because some clever former owner had decided to Superglue it into the bottom of mine, but I didn't notice at first glance, snapping the ceramic-like little chip in the process of removing it. So what next? Well, the second OEM key (which looked exactly like the more-rounded one in the video above, with no functional buttons) actually had another chip in it, but you wouldn't know because it doesn't look like it opens up. I forced it open, however the chip was in there so tight that despite hacking away the edge of the plastic with some pliers, I couldn't get it free. In the end, only some very careful filing of the edge of that secondary key a bit at a time released it. What a minefield!

What if u only have a manul spare key and want to put a new barrel to get a fob key
@refinition2135 жыл бұрын
I would imagine you would also need to fit the immobiliser reader from the car you're taking the barrel from possibly?
@kamlon105 жыл бұрын
how to take out the chip from the fob?
@refinition2135 жыл бұрын
I just used a small screwdriver or pliers to wiggle the chip out, it's not too difficult to pull it out 👍
