Tbh. nepo is a an emotional human. He played energetically, took risk and quite frankly lost a very very painful game in round 6. He gets severely affected psychologally, it's obvious. After the first loss, it just went domino. Feels bad, but you will never reach the very top if your emotions control you like that. Really just how it works. Either way, Ian is probably doing completely well, he is at a level few can reach.

@@jaconova Well, compared to Magnus' other challengers, he does get very affected, so I don't know why you had to take the time to reply to my comment? Yes, Magnus is obviously the best player as of now, but my point was really not that, rather that Ian is nowhere close to performing as good in a world championship as other players on his level, so there has to be some kind of problem there. The only people that did not expect this to happen are the ones that believed the narratives of the promoters trying to sell the match for viewership. This type of performance has been the hallmark of Ian's career, even when the stakes are significantly lower. Ian might be one of the most naturally gifted players today, but he is emotionally unstable and cannot control himself at the board, just like Vassily Ivanchuk before him. Giri, So, MVL, Caruana, Liren, Mamedyarov, ect.... all of them would be more of a challenge for Magnus across the span of 14 games. I'm not a hater, that is just reality. Instead of just seeing it as a blunder right away, it looks like he is intensely trying to figure out if there was something he missed that makes sacrificing the bishop a good play. I mean, everyone knows the chances of Magnus losing now are minimal if not non existent, he's simply a stronger player right now. And to be honest, as Magnus himself said, Ding Liren and Fabiano Caruana are tougher opponents than Nepo, hence why they're both ahead of Nepo and why the WCC 2018 was so close with Fabi, he's simply better. Let's see how Alireza does tho, this kid has everything to be a tough challenge.

players at this level get up and walk around all the time for a few reasons, one is that they are skilled enough to play blindfolded with ease, which means a lot of players prefer to go stand/sit somewhere calm while they ponder the position in their mind. in this case though, i'm pretty sure there's a screen in the other room showing the position, so when they leave they're most likely still looking directly at the position with their eyes.

Nepo needs some very solid psychological counselling and preparation. His talent and chess knowledge are obviously enormous, but the way he is approaching the world championship was really not well established. Playing way way too fast, obviously not calculating a lot of possibilities, missing out on good opportunities and in the end even resulting in terrible blunders. Compared to Magnus, who took good time to evaluate even pretty obvious (on his level) positions and options, not rushing at any point, Nepo looked almost amateurish. As if he didn't know what he had gotten into.
