Thank you so much for uploading this video to KZbin I love the Vax vacuum cleaner I remember being absolutely obsessed with this as a child.

Perhaps it do smell strange of being unused because it’s new?
@paulillingworth12427 жыл бұрын
I bet the smell could be a suppressor? It sounds absolutely as it should do, I remember my mum buying one of those back in the late 1980s she loved it, it was a good machine in its day very reliable she had it well over 10 yrs and it given away to continue use as she replaced with a later version.

God this takes me back to being a toddler in the very early 90s. My mum had one of these. I don't remember it being such a FAFF switching from ordinary vacuum cleaning to carpet washer though! My mum had this as her only vacuum for around 15 years to about 1998 when it gave up the ghost. She had various cleaners but always swore by VAX. My nan had one too, she had the one with the white hose as you mentioned. She lent it to my uncle who never gave it back!

Did you deliberately colour coordinate your socks to match the Vax? Apologies if you've mentioned it during the video, I'm dealing with speaker issues.

Maybe it's the Suppressor vax 121 has a suppressor in it if you remove it may work with no burning smell
@ibaisaic7 жыл бұрын
It is the suppressor. I talk about it on my instagram page.

I wish that all vacuum motors sounded as good as that one. I believe that the odor is being caused by the surpressor. Please promise me that when you repair it, you'll test it outside of your garage for about a half hour running before bringing it back into your home as someone whose lived through the horror of a house fire. I'm forever changed by that experience. I'm looking forward to your demonstration of the Electrolux Widetrack you'd posted on Facebook the other day. Love your signature coordinating socks. Fondly, Bruce

I saw you're reply on FB concerning the Electrolux and I'll be waiting patiently for the review. Thank You for the quick response and for all the entertainment and information that you give us.

What caused your house fire?
@LlyleHunter3 жыл бұрын
@@manFromPeterborough I had a cordless stick vac mounted to a wall on its charger that overcharged when I left the house for two hours. One of my neighbors called me and said. “You better head home.” Since then I haven’t purchased anything cordless except for telephones and I take those off of their chargers whenever I leave the house. Things like that leave an impression on you.

@@LlyleHunter Did that vac use LI-ion batteries or the old Ni-cad ? Those hover boards 2 years ago were a real fire hazard, I own an e-bike 20x4 fat wheeler. from some of the YT blogs I've read LI-ion batteries don't like being laid up for days fully charged, instead of overnight charging, I throw it on charge first thing next day 3 hours before the planned trip

Did any of the water get into the motor some how?
@hawkesworth17126 жыл бұрын
Don't forget, you're sucking up skin cells, dirt and transferring all the things you pick up on the bottom of your shoes, so the hose and fittings are coated with everything in that water you're pulling out of the carpet. I have the exact model and when they're left for a long time between shampoos they can stink. You also have to wash that blue filter regularly because you don't know what the last person used it for and whatever it was is trapped in that filter.

The only think that I can think it could be is the Motor Brushes. But if you know what burning motor brushes smells like then you will know. I sure do when the brushed burned out in my Numatic NNV200. The motor revved like a car and lots of black carbon and smoke came out of the back.
@ibaisaic7 жыл бұрын
It's the suppressor.
@Xenon777_7 жыл бұрын
oh. The vacuum cleaner was not really repairable I think. The motor just hummed really loud and smelled bad. The vents were all black too. I am using a different NNV200 its the model that says NATIONWIDE on the front. Do you know anything about the Grey Nationwide NNV200. It looks like the Numatic James nv200 but Grey with Nationwide on the front.
@ibaisaic7 жыл бұрын
It is repairable as you will see when I demo it properly next year. I think Nationwide is a cleaning company that had their logo put on a commercial Numatic.

I think what happened was that if it was left in an un-climate-controlled shed, that would have done the supressor in. I've had lots of 1980's electronics sadly die in my garage due to damp humidity and heat.
@aaronblair95837 жыл бұрын
Twas the motor brushes wearing in after sitting for so long. The corrosion on the commutator bars build up over years of sitting...
@ibaisaic7 жыл бұрын
No it isn't. It's been established that it was the suppressor. I opened it up and the suppressor had started to melt, producing the smell.
@FM602607 жыл бұрын
It sounds far from alright because it sounds nothing like an Electrolux Contour, lol. It sounds like the 121 I've used in the past but I seem to recall it being quieter, unless it is because this was indoors and I've only ever used one outdoors.
@ibaisaic7 жыл бұрын
The motor is fine, it's the suppressor causing the smell.
@FM602607 жыл бұрын
I didn't think they had suppressors in, or are they only in older vacuums?
@ibaisaic7 жыл бұрын
This is an older vacuum, it's from 1989. The supressor is pictured on my Instagram.

Come to think about it I came across a Vax Mach 8 cylinder in the basement at work that had been abandoned down there. I got it out and found it had a blockage in the moulded pipe in the body, I managed to clear it out and get it running in the end but after a while it started to smell like burning clutch/brakes so I ended up sending it back down to the basement from where it came. Do the modern Vax cylinder cleaners have the same sort of suppressors?
