+Dimitris Siafarikas Hook, Hook, Hook = coaching William to keep inhaling and keeping his bloodpressure up, so the O2 supply to his brain does not drop below the level when people faint. Signal = is telling WIlliam, who is fighting N2 and CO2 narcosis effects when to do his signal The coach is doing all this because the athlete needs to show the jury a protocol of: taking facial equipment of (only noseclip in Williams case), showing a diver's OK sign, and verbally saying: I'm ok. Easy to do if you are within your limits, and impossible to do when you're over your limits (severe loss of motor control/ samba or full BO) This surface protocol must be done within 15 seconds to a jury. The feeling of time is hard to know when you've done a very long and or deep dive, so here a coach helps a lot to help time the breathing(hook) and giving the signals (signal). Oh and the athlete need to stay above water (without help) and not be touched until the Jury shows him the (white=approved) card. For national records, world records, this can be up to a minute, so the Jury is sure the diver is ok, and not blacking out after (quickly) doing the protocol. Personally I've taught myself to do 3 hook breaths, then show the protocol. This takes about 12 seconds so just in time for the jury, while helping me through those first 9 difficult seconds on the surface (if I'm on the edge).

Does anyone know what the record is, for a completely unassisted free dive is? No fins, constant weights, no using the rope to descend or ascend. I want to know what a human is capable of doing on their own.

I remember trying to hold my breath at home some years ago (after watching one of Williams older videos) and I was able to do 4 and a half minute after a few days of "training" ....I had a slight headache the next day and I just wonder if that happens to you freedivers too?
@th4n.

yeah; yes it's normal; you are not used to high levels of CO2 . Nothing harmful

how do he equalise ? can any one tell me?
@buceoApulmon
@buceoApulmon 8 жыл бұрын
+Premrajan A it is probably a mix of BTV (voluntary tube opening) in the shallow and "Frenzel-Mouthfill" technique in the deeper part of the dive. If you are interested you will find a lot of documents on these methods of equalisation on the net.
